i am just so stressed over whether to transfer 1 or 2 embryos! i don't know what words of wisdom i am looking for, since i feel like i have heard them all....BUT i still go back and forth. embryos are great quality, we'd really prefer singleton over twins, but i am SO over this infertility journey. how did you decide? any luck with eSET? RE says 30% chance of birth with single transfer and 60% chance if transfer 2, in general.... STRESSED over what to do! Any experiences you care to share? THanks!
Re: FET--one or 2 embryos? CAN't DECIDE!
With our first cycle, that was fresh, we transferred 2. Our doctors and the RE suggested only 1 as it was high quality and they prepared us for the possibility of both embryos taking. Well, only 1 took but it split, so we were pregnant with two. We were terrified! Two babies seemed like so much extra work and money. Unfortunately, it did not split correctly and we lost them a few weeks later, devestating us. I would have given anything to have had two babies 7 months later.
With this cycle, that was frozen, they suggested the 2 would be ok and did not warn us about both implanting, but they did. When we saw the two heartbeat flicks, I was amazed at how excited and not scared I was! Our doctors were pretty surprised too and surmised that we were destined for two.
I would not change it for the world! We've done the financial research and know we will be able to afford them both. And yes, I'm sure it'll be a tough road and I'll have days where I'll think about how much easier it'd be with one, but in the end, I know how blessed I am. We are currently awaiting the anatomy scan in 3 weeks and I cannot wait to see two, healthy babies bouncing around.
But you and your partner will have to do the pros and cons together and see what will work for you two. Good luck on your journey.
I disagree with what your RE said that the % doubled if you transfer 2 embryos vs one. Research have shown that transferring 2 embryos only increase the chance for having multiples, not the overall success rate.
We transferred 2 back in 2011 and both took, but one stopped growing at 9 weeks. The other one became my son.
We did FET with 2 embryos last summer. One took but ended in a miscarriage.
For our last cycle we did PGS and freeze all. We transferred a single embryo in December that was successful and I'm now 34 weeks pregnant.

That's my two cents! Good luck with your decision, and keep in mind that whatever decision you make will be the right one for you. FX for you!

My piece of advice: follow your gut. What would your decision be if you didn't have time to think about it?
