I get so annoyed by some of the comments/questions I get from people. I work at an eye dr and am around a lot of patients each day. Many I see frequently and have known for many years. But the things they say... Or at the grocery store etc... I get the normal, when are you due? But when I say "September 15" people look at me like I have 4 heads. They say wow your not going to make it that long! I smile and say "well I'm only 4'11" and he has nowhere to go but out..." Or at the grocery store the cashier says "oh are you having another boy?" (My son was with me) and I say yes I am! She says "I thought so, your really high" I kinda laughed to myself... I'm carrying VERY low already! LOL just interesting what other people think they know about your pregnancy. But each pregnancy is so different.
Re: Things strangers have said to you
Or if they tell you the gender and they are right they act like they are some type of genius of information. Ya had a 50/50 chance, it doesn't make you a genius!
I got the comment about there must be something in the water at work since so many women are pregnant. As far as I know I'm the only one pregnant at work right now, so I didn't even respond!
@thinkpink101 I only have one boy and people are like awe maybe next time it will be a girl... LOL but I love my boy and wouldn't trade hime for anything and looking forward to another. I'm sure you feel the same
I went over to see my husbands family yesterday for the first time since February so I'm a little bigger now. I keep getting the "do you just not gain weight?!" Well yes actually. I'm up at 30 lbs. I look like I'm smuggling a basketball under my shirt.I'm a skinny person to begin with so yes 30 lbs doesn't appear like a lot to most people. Thankfully my SIL told my husband without me around that I was carrying more sideways this time. Uh thanks? I have no patience for people recently though haha
And another said it was a shame that my child was to be raised by a single mom. For the record, I AM NOT single, I am engaged, and even if I was, it should be no concern of yours.
...hate you too lady I've never met before.
My friends mom then proceeds to comment on the photo... "... By the way, you really shouldn't be crossing your legs, and only laying on your right side... Just sayin"
I know she means well, but I really don't like it when people talk to me like I don't know about being pregnant lol I've been doing this for 34 weeks now... I got it
When I was 32 weeks I went to kohl's to buy sleepers because fall clothes are finally out, the cashier says I love little girl clothes, someone is very lucky you're buying all these cute things for them. Who's baby is it? I stared at her for a minute than pointed to my stomach and said she's mine. Do people think I just look fat??
I could go on and on about how people should really learn to shut their mouths, but the bottom line is that your doctor's opinion is all that matters. It took me up until now to learn that and I'm still working on it.
If all else fails, pregantchicken.com has a list of my favorite witty comebacks to rude prego comments:
"Have you had that baby yet!?"
"Yep, I just decided to leave it in the car today."
I still get dirty looks from older, more "mature" women, but it's nothing compared what I received on a daily basis when I was pregnant with my son. Now, I know I was 19. I really am not oblivious to the idea that that is crazy young to have been married for a year and having a baby by today's standards, so the looks didn't bother me too much. It was the comments that did me in. People I would pass in parking lots would call me plenty of names the bump would not approve of. And the worst: while I was working in a coffee shop and had started to show, an older gentleman came in, who was a regular, and said, "didn't anyone tell you what happens when you sit on someone else? Maybe next time you should use some protection."
Um, what!?
I would really like to know what a pregnant women should look like to them.
