December 2015 Moms

How much does everyone have accomplished?

I'm coming up to the half way point and so far it has flown by! Now I am starting to feel anxious because I feel like I should have a lot more for the baby. I've only gotten a few packages of diapers, a few articles of clothing, and a few odds and ends from garage sales this summer! I also work two jobs and have a 3 year old at home so I feel like I have no time for shopping or organizing! I hope I'm just being paranoid and I hope I'll calm down soon and realize it'll all be okay lol

  • Well, I bought a really cute Denver Bronco onesie and that's about it. You are definitely way ahead of me! Don't worry, everything will fall into place! :)

  • You have a ton more done than I do and I have no kids to take care of and am a stay at home dog mom. We have literally nothing but a handful of onesies and bibs we have bought over the years. We are waiting for our big 20 week appt to check on the babies, find out if they're healthy, and hopefully find out sex.
I'm not too worried about it and neither should you be. Especially since you've done it all before!

  • I'm 16 weeks and FTM so my situation is a little different from yours. I'm done with 90% of my registry. I've literally purchased 7 onsies 7 baby books 50 hangers and 1 pair of socks. Waiting until week 20 and anatomy scan so I can paint the nursery. Once the paint is dried I'm going to buy my furniture. I'm basically going to divide up the stuff I'm not registering for and buy a little bit a month.

I would not worry about it. I'm Jewish and it's against our tradition (it is just superstition) to bring anything into the home before baby is born. I don't anticipate getting anything other than a car seat for the car, a bassinet which I will keep at my moms until ready and just a few outfits/swaddle blankets. You'd be surprised what you can buy online these days! Diapers.com and BBB/every other store can send you everything you need.

  • Only a few onesies here! But after the anatomy scan we will probably (hopefully) get everything done pretty quickly. I'm paranoid and need everything done way ahead of schedule so it's all perfect lol
  • We have a few onsies and pjs I got at a garage sale and an audio monitor that we got from my grandmother. The registry is at least done, except for a rocking chair. We still have to mud and sand the nursery on top of painting, laying sub flooring and carpet. Also, we have to move the stairs in order to put the floor in and our contractor won't call us back. I'm nearing the freak-out point and hope to get something accomplished this weekend. Stuff definitely needs to start happening. I'm there with you!
  • Not a thing accomplished at all here. I blame it on the toddler.

We have a travel system, only because it was on sale when I registered so my mum bought it, a large cuddly lamb, and a sleeper. I'm mostly waiting until after the shower.
  • I only have a onsie from Harry Potter Park that I bought last year. I have some stuff that was free from the babypalooza that the hospital puts on where I live. It all fits into a basket. I am currently working on fixing up the free baby crib I got. Last owner had a dog or baby that chewed through the wood a little. I also just bought a glider chair. Despite all that the baby's future room is full of boxes from our move. It is an overwhelming task. The fact that we don't have any storage closets or extra space is already bothering me. I feel like I should be further along because I don't know when I will get a new job offer, but I guess it will work out. Hopefully when the nesting period kicks in (if it does), I will get more motivated.
  • I have done nothing to prepare for #3, but will start getting organized soon.  My thinking is that weeks 24 (when a baby is viable) to 30 (when I typically start to slow down) is the perfect time period to "nest".

  • Nothing but 2 pairs of shoes, 1 pair of booties, a set of body suits and a set of baby blue hangers. The nursery still empty, lol. At the halfway point as well and thinking I should probably get the ball rolling. Lol

I didn't know of this tradition....  but my grandmother basically told me the same thing.  She was a nurse for a long time and recommended that I not get too emotionally involved with the child.  I wonder if it stems from the same tradition, since before my ancestors came to the U.S., they were practicing Jews.  I always just thought it was because she was a nurse and had seen many mothers come home empty-handed from the hospital :(

I put some sample paint colors on the nursery wall. That's about it.
  • I am in the midst of arranging a lot of life things right now (good stuff, mostly), to ensure that when baby is here I can focus on her and being on leave. To that end, no baby related things have been tackled at all save for who maybe, sort of, might watch her when I return to work from maternity leave.

So, seems like you are ahead of the curve.
  • Between a 10-12 hr job and a toddler, i've not prepared at all for this baby. I wouldn't worry about it, you've got plenty of time. We need to redo the room and get rid of a bunch of furniture and get the room painted and stuff, but I can't think about it right now when work's pretty insane this month. We got time!

Basically nothing. I was given a pillow and some bottles and a book. I have 3 onesies. That's it.

I have a snoogle, baby bargains book, and a travel system that my parents bought as an anniversary gift. And a Christmas stocking, but that was part of our announcement ;)
  • Aww. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I do know what I'm having, but I can't hardly believe it's a boy so I'm even skeptical to buy boy stuff, but I slowly have anyway and if it's not a boy then oh welllll... Lol
  • I'm with the ladies that have not bought a single thing.  There have been times when we almost bought something (a crib that was on sale, a changing table on Craigslist) but just didn't go through with it for one reason or another.  We are team green too, so that's probably factoring in some.  I think we'll probably get serious in September.
  • I don't want to make anyone feel inadequate about their progress, but I've looked at Pinterest for nursery ideas. I know, way ahead of the game here.

Me too! Mostly to figure out how to fit two cribs in a room with a dresser without needing to squeeze through.

  • I have absolutely nothing ready for this baby - the only thing he/she owns are the things that have been gifted (some onesies, a blanket & some books)... Bub just still seems so far away, hopefully I'll get my act together soon.
  • I have a body pillow, a baby book, and two stuffed animals (one that is my SO's first bear, being passed down to his first baby). There is a disassmbled crib sitting at my in-laws house and a baby gate out for delivery.

  • I've got the nursery done, a ton of clothes, a few toys and some books. MIL bought us a stroller/car seat combo and the rest is on my registry! First shower is next month and the second is in October. I have slight OCD and I'm super excited so I kinda hopped into the "nesting" mode at full force. We also have about 400 newborn/size 1 diapers that were given to us.
Just a heads up, Gap outlet is having a huge sale on everything... Got a ton there for awesome prices!
  • We haven't even moved into our new house yet, so.... Nothing done nor packed to be moved. But tons bought so far. Just waiting to move and get our stuff situated first then tackle Ainsley's stuff..... Which I say will be start of 3rd trimester before I hit that, unfortunately. Joys of us both working crappy shifts and full time jobs... Barely time to breathe let alone the rest of things we need to do such as registry, booking room for shower and such.

Not a single dang thing here either. And I need to shift everything out of the to-be nursery and find new places for it! Including two of my snakes.

Also why does the : X face make something with...hearts? That is NOT A HAPPY FACE, message board!
Is heartily apologizing to her child in advance for genes that predispose them to shitty vision and being Too Damn Tall.
  • Def waiting for the shower... I'm organizing stuff around the house mostly.
  • Nothing, people were giving me a bunch of stuff last year and then I miscarried and having to see that stuff upset me and it took a while to give it away. I had some shirt with a cat on it that I stuffed in a closet just in case (I like cats) I ever got preggo again. People have asked now if they can give me stuff and I have said no and some try to insist and I am like 1. I don't have space right now since the room the baby will eventually use is being rented out right now 2. I don't want to see stuff if I lose this pregnancy. One friend was cool with it because she has jewish relatives and knows the superstitious stuff so she said she would keep the stuff at her house until the baby comes out.

I also just don't want a lot of baby stuff. I don't even mind if it sleeps in a drawer for a while ( I know that probably sounds horrible to some of you, but I do have central heat in my house and electricity, and running water so no one is going to freeze to death in a Minnesota winter).
  • Not much!!

Just sent out our tiny prints announcements today to friends and the rest of the fam we haven't told which is VERY exciting!

Baby Registries are turned on, however, need to still add more to them as we research more stuff - we did Amazon.com and Babylist

Put up a new light fixture in the extra bedroom which will eventually be the nursery.

Next up - choosing paint color, furniture and a rug for the nursery.

We are having our first shower is the end of next month (it's out of town and we are flying so doing it early, the second won't be until October)

    So much to do!!!

  • I've been trying to use coupons and buy things that are clearanced lol. Any little bit saved helps!!
  • I've gotten a few neutral clothes, some more spare changing pad covers since there will be two. Mostly I'm trying to clean and organize (down size) to make room for a second crib in an already cramped room.

We moved from a larger house to a smaller apartment during my last pregnancy. I had no energy left and there are still a ton of boxes I never got to. I'm trying to do so now before I get to that big belly, super tired and uncomfortable third trimester again. I know I won't want to work on this stuff then.
  • I haven't purchased anything. We moved last week and are going on vacation this week. After we get settled in the new house we'll get busy on the nursery. We will probably register in the next few weeks.
  • I'm a control freak. Furniture, beddings, clothes, items for change tables, swaddles, bibs, bottles. Pram, car seat, breast bump and baby monitor are on lay by. DH is organising my nursing chair.

I've now been put on a baby shopping ban till after our shower in September.

And I'm also sad that I've done it all now and have nothing left to do for the next few months. It didn't take long at all to accumulate all that.

Don't worry, you have plenty of time. And there is always online shopping!!
  • I have done nothing. We moved early on, I just negotiated for a promotion at work, and I'm taking life one day at a time. I don't think the baby needs too much when she's little, and trust that everything will come together in the right time.
