Katherine Anne Either way you use kate, do your daughter a Service and give her a full name. my name is Katherine and I go by Kate, but professionally I would hate to write Kate. That would just be embarrassing in that type of setting as a full name.

Sorry to go off the original post but just for curiosity - I have seen a few ppl in posts say how short first names are embarrassing or unprofessional. @ksteeb611 , why would having the given name of kate be bad? I am truly curious, not trying to be a pain.

My SIL is Kate, just Kate. She doesn't mind the name, but gets tired of ppl asking what it's short for.
IRL, ppl might see the short name on formal paperwork (resume, job application, diploma, wedding invite) and wonder if that is the person's real name, or if they're just a ding-dong who didn't know this was a formal situation and they should have used a formal name. If HR has 19 Roberts and 1 Bob apply for a job, Bob will probably get his application thrown out for not taking the application seriously.
That being said, I think it's fine to use a shortened name for a mn.

A lot of people dislike nicknames as full names. It's not that they are short, but rather that most people will assume they are part of a longer name (see the discussion we had on the name Will). I personally don't mind Kate as a stand alone in the middle name spot, since people don't use their middle names in most settings and because I like one syllable middle names, but I wouldn't recommend using it as a first name. For me, it just depends on the name itself as to whether it bothers me to use just the nickname (ex. I don't mind just Jill as a FN at all, but just Will instead of William sounds strange).
Re: 3 favorite girl name combos
Caroline Anne is tough to roll off the tongue and Kate Natalie just doesn't flow.
