October 2015 Moms

To do list

I just made a massive to do list. Three pages later I realize I'm a bit insane.  It might be helpful though, so I thought I'd share a few of my items. Feel free to add your own!  FYI - I am due Oct. 1, so your timelines may be a bit more relaxed.

Early August

Finalize freezer meals and prepare

Buy snacks for hospital bag

Buy birthday cards for the rest of the year

Buy extra stamps (for baby announcements/Christmas cards)

Wash NB & 0-3 month baby clothes

Finalize HR paperwork (FMLA, STD)

Early September

Load up on mom care items (Tucks pads, sanitary pads, nipple cream, breast pads)

Make/freeze lactation cookies

Prepare e-mails for work that I won't be in because baby is coming!

Wash bottles/set up drying rack

Write down insurance # to report baby's birth and add to family plan (I do this and the item below before leaving the hospital)

Write down pediatrician office # to make newborn appointment

Install infant carrier base

Complete registry

Pack hospital bag

  • I make lists for everything and place deadlines on my google calendar (when to do fmla papers, when i can get breastpump through insurance, etc.) I don't go quite as far ahead as you do, but I'm piecing together things to do before baby arrives! You def. gave me some ideas. Like @Birdee212 maybe I'll post mine when it's done. Off work for 4 days, so I have plenty of time to work on it this week!
  • @birdee212

This is just a fraction of my list. My third list is things to do before August! DH asked what was on the list, and gave up about 5 items in when he realized I was just getting started.

Edit: Sorry about formatting. I can only type in the html space because of the latest and greatest Bump glitch. Apparently this means no paragraphs or line breaks >:P Oh gosh. I need to do this. Things I would add to my list: -Email boss about maternity leave and maternity sub plans. -Deep clean kitchen. -Clean out kitchen cabinets/make room for baby stuff. -Deep clean living room. -Deep clean bathroom. -Deep clean master bedroom. Are you sensing a theme here? -Maternity leave lesson plans :( -Pick date for maternity photos. -Meet with financial advisory about retirement plans. -Wash & put away baby clothes. I'm sure there are a billion more.
  • =D> Hugs @SweetnSassy23 this is great! I have got to get my own list going.
  • Love seeing the lists so I can add to mine or if I forgot something! I love making lists! My issue lately though is making lists and then not remember to grab the list for when I go to the store! Started my things I do at work that someone else needs to take over while I'm gone list!

Yes! I'm not the only one! I love lists, I make them for everything. I get overwhelmed when I keep everything in my head and it's so helpful to organize all my thoughts onto paper. Thanks for sharing, you have some ideas I like that I don't have, so I'll have to update.

  • I used to be a detailed list maker as well. I've gotten out of the habit for the most part, writing mostly shorter ones or ones with more vague items than I used to. I found that my perfectionistic tendencies would cause me to feel like a failure when it would take me so long to complete a list. But I'm not sure that trying to keep everything straight in my mind that I need to do really works for me either. Stuck!
  • I made a list of the things I want to get done today...mostly because if I didn't I would forget!!
  • SO glad I'm not the only one!! Our problem is following through with the lists I make. Well, I have all intentions of getting my projects done as I'm home all day and only have homework to get done. However, SO works all day and he never has energy to get to my list once he is home. Time to crack down and get rolling with it, +/- 14 weeks to go!
  • Loving this thread! Can't wait for more people to post their lists!

I have a list for hubby for everything that has to get done in or to the house before baby arrives (baby proofing, small repair projects, install hand rail to upstairs baby room)

I have a separate list for all of my work things that have to get taken care of before I'm off (get my equipment switched over to my girl covering, double check PTO levels, draft I'm on maternity leave emails, etc)

I have a list of what rooms need to be cleaned top to bottom and have included things like:
Organizing closets/cupboards, washing and ironing curtains, cleaning mini blinds, inside of freezer/fridge/stove.

I have a list of stuff to do for baby and baby room (have all clothes washed, clothes organized by size, crib made up, insurance stuff, write a will)

Then I have a list for stuff we need to buy for the house, for me, stuff to stock up on (including an extra bag of feed for all of our animals), and a list of stuff we still have to have for baby.

Then I have a list of what is going to go in the hospital bag.

I found a book at a garage sale that last weekend that I really like. It's called getting organized for your new baby by Maureen bard and Christine zuchora-walske that has been helpful.
  • Not to scare anyone, but there are only two months before October arrives. That's why my list is so long. Thanks to everyone who is adding. I want to make sure I don't forget anything.

To my fellow list makers. Sometimes I add extra steps just for the satisfaction of crossing it off. For example, my list can say buy snacks for hospital bag, but then I list all the snacks I want! I may need help.  ;)

Snacks:  granola bars, Oreos, fruit cups, napkins, spoons, PB crackers, etc.

I definitely add little details!! 1) so I don't forget something really simple, and 2) yes, the satisfaction of crossing things off the list is a mood booster! :)

I forgot to add something. I made a list of all the appointments that I need to make before the end of the year (physical for work, dentist, eye doctor, yearly exam for one dog, etc) and have scheduled them all between now and September. Don't want to have to do those things with a newborn babe
  • I love lists. Looks like I'm in good company here.

A few items from my list:
    - steam clean carpets and sofa
    - wash sheets, blankets, and clothing for DD
    - actually organize DD's dresser instead of just putting things in there wherever
    - buy nursing bras
    - get health insurance reinstated
    - call insurance about breast pump
    - vacuum out car and install car seat base
    - pack DS's bag for staying with IL's when baby arrives
    - pack my hospital bag
    - finish making Christmas gifts so I won't have to worry about them when I've got a newborn at home

I'm trying to have all of the above completed by the end of August except packing bags, which I want done by 36 weeks. I'd rather have up to 4 weeks of having to find things to do than be unprepared in the event DD comes early like her big brother did.

  • Biggest item on the list is to find a house and move before the baby is here. I am itching to start nesting but since we'll be staying at my in laws, which I'm so grateful for, I can't start. Luckily we have all the gear and tons of gender neutral clothes from our boys so it just needs to be washed and put in our hypothetical nursery.

  • Everything. LOL. I haven't even begun to make one. I have so much on my mind.

  • By the way if you guys like lists, check out the app COZI. It's free and it's really good at organizing well basically your life. Plus you can share it with other people, you just have one email address to log in under. You can use it on a desktop or any mobile device.

My DH and I had to do it because it was the only way to stay on top of our house projects. Now we have about 8 lists of different things. We might have a problem.
  • edited July 2015

Krysta6 I'm washing a few of mine. A good friend of mine gave me a good schedule for breast feeding. I'll pump one breast and let DS feed on the other so I can establish a stash. This way my DH can feed the baby if I get too tired. Plus you never know if they will have problems latching.

I'm making a list of our bills, when they're due, and payment amount so DH can be organized the first month.

  • Well guess I will start my list now ... Thanks !
  • justyhjustyh member
After reading this thread I will probably dream about list making when I finally fall asleep! I'm tempted to start my list now but far too lazy to get my journal out of my purse and every time I get out of bed at night my bf wakes up n ask if I'm ok like 3x (very sweet but annoying when I pee every hour)
  • I make lists for everything! I'll make a list, and then depending on what is on the list, I'll break it down into another little list. For example, for 'buy baby toiletries/medications', I'll break it down into what I need to get, like baby powder, shampoo, gripe water, etc. Then typically I'll shop around to where the best deals are (bargain shopper here) and search for coupons. But I'm getting off topic. Lists just make life so much easier!
  • i have 2 school aged kids i NEED to remember to add in my list :

    school supplies
    uniforms
    backpacks
flu shots for both kids ( flu shots for : sister & DH )
    snacks for them

    BABYs list:

    get crib & mattress
    - flannel sheets ( have everything else )
    -mattress pad!

    all bottles and accessories
    -storage for BM  / bags

    changing table (decide on)
    -pad

    HOME
one large shopping trip for pantry

    ME
    -hosp bag
-need hosp clothes (yoga pants & nursing tanks & bras)

    OMG !

  • @SweetnSassy23 do you have a particular recipe for those lactation cookies ...i found one and it contains flax seeds...now i was told flax seeds contain cyanide so totally a no no during preg so im figuring it would be a no no for baby too? HELP !

  • @gabrielafrnqyepez

My recipe calls for flax seeds as well. I've never heard about it containing cyanide? I've not really researched it either.

  • My to do list includes:
    Hang curtains in the nursery
    Wash baby clothes
    install carseat and bases
    FMLA paperwork (after Aug 4)
Get breast pump and supplies (After Sept 4)
Pick a pediatrician and call their office
    Pack bag for hospital
    Buy nursing bras/tanks
Put together a gift basket for the nurses
    Freezer meals
Deep clean house (made a list of everything I want to do)
Thank you cards for baby shower
    Send in hospital pre-registration paperwork
    Tour hospital
Schedule classes (Infant CPR for DH, breastfeeding for me)

Thanks for some of your ideas ladies!  You helped me add stuff I forgot about.
