Extra money?

I am due in June so I do have some time to figure things out. We plan on me being a stay at home mom. I was just wondering if there are things you do to create some income? I'm in Minnesota if that helps. Thanks!

I am an It Works distributor and I sell our products. I basically play on Instagram and Facebook to promote our stuff and to people I see out in public. Gives a bit extra and if I put more of me "into it" I could make a ton more money. My friend started last year and is making over 20k a month now. It's insane what some of the multi level marketing companies can make! btw not a pyramid, we actually sell products that we love, and get paid, and pyramids are illegal. ;-)

I used to sub too before kids. Around here they said Fridays and Mondays are the most needed days so I schedule my other job around those and just picked up a job at a local school to sub. Our county does it through a staffing website so it was easy to pick/choose your school job in the morning.

Also OP are you crafty? I sell stuff on Etsy and that gives us a good chunk every month.

I provide child care at my church during woman's bible studies and MOPs meetings. It isn't a lot, but it helps and it also gives me a reason to get myself and the kids out of the house and meet other people.

Hey there, I've been having the same worries for my wife and I as well. Things are going to get a little tight so I've been looking into ways of bringing in some extra money with little effort, especially when my wife is home with the baby in the coming months, and I found two main options so far. My parents run a decent eBay store - they owned a toy store when I was growing up so they still know the suppliers. They sell doll furniture, kids strollers and cribs, rocking horses, things like that, and they made some decent side money.

Your best bet for earning some extra cash - stick with what you know and find a way to make yourself marketable in your specialty. IMO, don't quit your day job yet because post baby you just may find that that keeping it is the prudent thing to do.

Didn't give any "advice". I said one of the things I do. Some people do ThirtyOne, Jamberry, Shakeology, etc. and make money too. Most of the people I know that do it started out wanting just a bit of extra money a month and some make a little and some make a lot.

Here is the truth. No most people you know don't make a little because statistically 95% of people lose money from MLM companies. They rely and prey on desperate uneducated SAHM to sell their stuff. In the end the majority of their "distributers" don't make anything in the end. So please keep what you do to yourself. It is not a way to make money. It however is a way to annoy your friends. Please OP don't fall for any MLM company.

We are currently looking at options for me to SAHM and bring in some money also. So far, the main contenders are:

Making & selling on Etsy/at craft shows, working a few nights per week at a local restaurant (the tips there are killer), teaching dance a few nights per week or trying to watch a few kids in home with my own.

I currently sell Thirty-One. I've maybe spent about $200 total on my kit and other business supplies. However, I've MADE over $100 in the 6 months that I've been selling. It's all about networking. Also, to pull in a little extra cash on the side I babysit for people when they need it and I make crocheted accessories and cloth diapers and I sell them on Etsy. I've been away from Etsy for a few months, but I'm about to get back into it again.

I babysit two additional kids during the day. I don't make a ton of money doing it, but it basically pays for our weekly groceries and my kids view it as a daily play date. So, it's a win win for our family.

I'm guessing that is profit after the cost of her start up. Either way, $300 in 6 months still wouldn't be worth it. There are easier ways to make $50 a month without harassing people to buy your latest pyramid product.

Seriously $100 in six months? I made twice that in an hour selling shit from our house. Your statement is a great testimony of how big of a waste of time direct sales are.

Think outside the box too...I'm handy with Photoshop so I sell digital designs/invitations.

I don't make much but enough to pay for "extras".

I don't make a ton of money doing any of these things, but I do make enough to have some "fun money." Here's what I do:

I make jewelry which I sell on Etsy
I do surveys and offers on survey sites, which I redeem for Amazon gift codes and PayPal dollars
I babysit a couple times a week in my home
I use apps like Ibotta and Shopkick when I do my shopping so I earn money back or points for gift cards at Target

Basically right now I'm earning enough to get my beading supplies for free and save $5-10 each grocery trip

I was the last person to ever post mlm on Facebook! I started using plexus products and loved them so much I thought I'd try my hand at selling them just so I could get my products paid for! I've been in 6 months and Make 1 weeks worth of income at home!!

I have just been lurking. I currently work full time and always have but this is our third and we're thinking about having me stay home. We have a 2 yr old and a 6 yr old already and daycare will be insane with a third child. So I was curious what others responses were.

I have to say I agree with Knottie48097161 . I tried selling stuff at home and it was kind of a waste of money. I sold skincare for a while. While I loved the products I was using, I didn't really make any money doing it. These companies fill your head with TONS of stories about all these women making 10k.. 20k.. a month and winning cars and vacations and all you have to do is this.. look how easy it is. It is NOT easy. I spent $700 on my 'business kit' which basically gives you a ton of products that you can sample out and use yourself to try and sell the products. But I had a really really hard time selling products. Each skincare line was anywhere from $150-$400 which is kind of a lot to ask someone to spend. There were way too many tactics that I felt were kind of sneaky and I didn't like that at all. Initially, I sold to all of the obligatory family members. My mom, my step mom, my BFF, my brothers girlfriend etc. I gave out samples ALLLLLL the time. I spent money on sample containers and packaging etc. I posted on local FB for sale sites.. I sent a lot of cold emails.. I may have had a few questions about products but they never went anywhere. I ended up making about $149 in 2 months. Each month you have to also spend money as part of your 'replenishment' and you can only disable that IF you sell a certain dollar amount. So here I am .. making $149.. spending probably $100 total on products.. $700 on my business kit and I'm really not seeing a return on my investment. While all of these other girls are posting on FB about how successful they are and how much they love it. That was not my experience at all. The only plus side is that you can return your kit within 60 days and get your money back so that's what I did.

I'm technically a distributor for oils too and I'm messed around with attempting to sell those as well.. but again you have to spend at least $50 per month on product. So I sold some.. I sold $50.. and I spent $50 so it was sort of nice that it paid for the things I wanted to order but I didn't actually make any money doing it.

A friend of mine told me about an online company that does a lot of at home.. part time.. freelance.. web work. So I did apply there. So far I've just been freelancing but seriously it's not really very consistent and it's not like you're making much money. You have to do a ton of red tape before each task and frankly I just haven't had time for that crap. So I think so far my 'payroll' says I've made like $2. Because each task is anywhere from 2 cents to 15 cents. And once you hit $50.. they pay you. So far I'm really not impressed so far.

and like Meagain31 said.. surveys suck in my opinion. I tried that when I was home with my son in 2008. I mean sure if you have like ten thousand years to sit in front of the computer and answer a gazillion questions than maybe you might make a little bit of cash. The ones I did I ended up getting bored and frustrated before I was even done with the survey.

I'm really really hoping to be able to pull it off and stay home but so far I haven't found any consistent ways to bring in extra income. Our county does have a FB for sale site and I do sell kids stuff that we don't use anymore and I'll make some extra cash that way but it's not like money that's going to pay bills or anything. It's like $50 here and there.

I've done decent with surveys but it gets old after a while so it's not a long term solution. Now my son don't like it when I spend time on the computer so not much gets done. I coupon to save $ which helps our our budget and until recently I was petsitting to earn a little extra but because I'm due in June it's getting too hard to do that.

So, you've made just over $8,000 since 2006; that's less than $1,000 a year. I can think of much easier/faster ways to make that much money in 12m.

I'm a preschool teacher, but since I'm on summer break now I developed my own in-home summer camp that rotates through families houses once a week (really it's more of a nanny share, with an educational focus.) I have 5 kids signed up, some for 4-5 weeks, some up to 8 weeks, and charge families $60 per session plus a materials fee. So all told I should be making around $1600 only working 4 hours a week for 8 weeks (average $50/hour!)

I'm sure there are good people out there that sell these products to actually help others, but I have seen the craziest claims with this and oils. It is deceptive and downright disgusting to prey on desperate people to make a buck.

I used to be a Pure Romance consultant and I always lost money! People were horrible able stealing/breaking/using up the products! When doing direct sales you have to invest so much money to actually have any inventory to sell. It's the WORST way to attempt to make money.

Now, I bake. Nothing extreme. Most of my business is around the holidays. People order cheesecakes, cupcakes, muffins, or even candied nuts instead of making them themselves. I know I'm not going to get rich doing this, but if I can cover at least one household bill or do a little extra for the kids holiday presents I'm happy.

You have to look into the requirements in your area to sell baked goods from your home. Some states require a license, most require health inspections. If it's something you're interested in do your research concerning your local laws.

Many of my friends do 31 Bags, AVON, etc. but they drive me bonkers so I've sworn it off. So this entire time I've tried to be creative. I ended up working from home in marketing for a long time for legit brick and mortar stores. I sort of road the new trend of social media marketing which fit my situation well. Now I have my own year round dance program and teach little girls. It's such a great job, and my kids stay with me.

I have an Etsy shop. I was a graphic designer and wanted to make more on the side when I got pregnant with #2. I came up with a bunch of invitation templates to sell. I work on things when DS naps or when they go to bed but it's hit or miss. I made around $1500 last year total. I could freelance at home for my former employer but I don't have enough time to devote to working on a project with 2 LOs at home. My mom does secret shopper things and said that the bank ones are the most worth it. The restaurant / store ones take a lot of time and aren't really worth what you earn. It mainly covers your expenses but its nice if you can't afford to eat out a lot, you can have free meals. You have to pay attention to details and fill out a lot of paper work. Also hard to do with a baby. I also sell things on eBay here and there. Mostly kid toys, clothes, gifts from Inlaws I don't want, I sold my old TrapperKeeper for $25 that I found while cleaning out a closet. People even sell coupons on eBay too! Every little but helps!

I have done tons of at home work. I agree, if you have the option of doing what you were doing before and doing it from home - go for it! This is where you can find lots of success. I worked from home writing and copy editing and was making very good money - it just became too much for me - I was constantly trying to find new work to keep up. With three kids, network marketing and my blog actually has been beneficial. You are always going to have nay sayers - and that's okay. I never try to convince anyone this is the way to go - but agree with others that it can work. Everything is what you make it. I am able to make enough to stay home from it - but it's not for everyone. It's what I love doing, so I do it.

You can also substitute maybe? I have done that once or twice a week for a little something to do to get out of the house

I totally agree that there are desperate people selling products and will do it no matter what they believe - my friend is one of them, she will do anything to get you to buy from her. But, some people really love and believe in what they do - even if it's oils - they have worked for my family and I really truly believe in them - otherwise I wouldn't work with them. I am as honest as they come. I tried selling isagenix once, and I just didn't believe in the product or what I was doing - so I stopped.
