Baby Names

Thoughts on Felicity?

We just found out we are expecting baby #3 and I'm already nervous about names - we had such a hard time with the first two, I'm afraid there are no names left that we like! Our girls are Emmeline and Cecelia so we like traditional, feminine names. I have been tossing around Felicity but DH can't get past the TV show. Anyone have thoughts? Or other suggestions?

I previously loved Vivienne and it was a contender both times, but I don't know if I'm crazy about it anymore.

A few others DH likes:
Eleanor
Adelaide
Elizabeth

Thanks :)

I hate to say that my very first thought was "TEAM BEN!" so I guess I'm no help :-/

  • I think Felicity is nice and fits nicely with your other girls' names. Felicity Eleanor?

Felicity is the name we have picked if we have a girl (we will find out in August!). I actually think about the American Girl character (I loved reading those books when I was younger) over the TV show. When people say that a name reminds them of a character, someone famous, etc I just remind myself that eventually our baby will be the one that comes to their mind when they hear the name, not the person it reminds them of now!
  • I adore Felicity! It's on my short list.
  • Love it.

But Adelaide and Eleanor would also go wonderfully with your other daughters.
  • Felicity is great and goes with your other daughters really well
  • Love it in general and with the siblings! Great addition to them! I don't even think of that show anymore.

  • love it

    Felicity Elizabeth would be beautiful
  • Love LOVE Felicity!! I think it fits perfectly with your other daughters' beautiful names!

  • Love it :-)
  • Felicity is beautiful. I think I would keep the middle name short though.
  • I'm not sure I love felicity and Cecilia as a subset but I love bothe names.
  • Love it! I think the show is not iconic enough for people to connect it with her name in 10 years.

    I like it.
  • I like it! It means great happiness. I enjoy names with great meanings.
  • Love it. It more original than your other names, too. I'm just over all of the Ellie and Addie names. Other suggestions that are very similar to me: Mallory and Melody.

I would never start an Internet fight, but you are so, so wrong. TEAM NOEL forever ;-)

  • I think the name Felicity is beautiful. And I don't think the TV show will be the first thing people think of, especially kids her own age who won't even know it.

  • Thanks everyone! I never watched the show (but if I did, I would definitely be team Scott Speedman's character) but its all DH can think of - but I have about 9 months to change his mind ;)

    I'm personally not a fan

I really like Adelaide though, I think it fits beautifully with your sibset. I love Vivienne as well!!!
  • Felicity was my first ever favorite name, and it stayed #1 for a long time! I still love it! (I think there is/was an American girl named Felicity)

Felicity is fine but keep in mind that it is a personality trait. It means a state of blissful happiness. Not even that this is the name meaning. It is used in sentences as a noun. As in "She was in a constant state of marital felicity".

If you're ok with that, then go for it.

I loooooved those books. When I was a kid, I wanted to name the dog Felicity, but my parents told me it wasn't a good name for a dog, so we went with Molly as a compromise.

That said, I love the name, and yeah, for a baby, not a dog :))

I personally think of the TV show because I love Keri Russell and that show. But, I do like that name in general and think it goes with your daughters' names and sounds very feminine. Some adults may think of the show, but no kids ever will.
  • Team American Girl! ;) I've never seen the show and wouldn't think of it when hearing your daughter's name. I think it fits in well with her siblings' names! Beautiful and classic.
  • Felicity is a beautiful name. It gets my vote. Next would be Eleanor.

I still have my Felicity American girl doll! :)

  • I love the meaning of it! I watch the show Arrow and the IT girl is named Felicity and she is awesome so it makes the name better too :)

I really think Vivienne goes best with your other daughter's names. More classic to me. Felicity is just nms.
  • I love it. It's one of the names we are tossing around, though my husband doesn't know how he would shorten it / nickname.

I am lost on a nickname as well. Lissie is the first thing that comes to mind but I don't really like it!

I do know that it's word but I have never, ever heard anyone use it in a sentence in real life. I don't even think I've read it in a book. I am usually not a fan of names that are real words but in this case it doesn't bother me.
