Trying to Get Pregnant

Confused about OPK's

So I've purchased some $1 store OPK's, I can't bring myself to spend the $$ on the more expensive ones just yet.  I've also been temping this month.  I was under the impression that you are supposed to only use the OPK first thing in the AM.  Now I've been doing a little more research and seeing otherwise, that 2 x a day is recommend so as not to miss the LH surge.  But I've also read that you need to refrain from excessive fluids before the 2nd time you test because you can dilute the urine.  I drink alot of water through out the day and I work out in the afternoon typically, so not drinking water is almost impossible for me throughout the day.

help!!

Re: Confused about OPK's

  • It isn't the whole afternoon, on my tests it says to refrain from drinking for 2 hours.

  • 2 hours is a long time for no fluids for this girl!!

I think I've mentioned this before. I've had zero problems with dollar store opk's and I never had to refrain from drinking during the day. I tested with fmu, late afternoon, and evening. I got positives all three times for 2 days. Then they went back to negative.

ETA: I drink lots of water all day long, usually around 80oz a day.

  • Lot's of ladies test multiple times a time to catch the surge (some can last only 12 hours).  Some OPKs say to test with FMU others say between 10-2 or sometime around that time.  If you have a long surge (lasting 24+ hours), you can get away with once a day testing.  It all depends on your body.

****I did see your post about this from earlier post, so I'm glad to hear that you  have tested at different times and don't refrain from drinking fluids.  Thank you again for sharing your experience.

I drink a gallon a day and have always been able to catch a surge. However, every body is different, if you are finding that you can't catch it you may need to try to go an hour or two. I know it's difficult once your body gets used to a certain level of fluids it feels like torture to wait, but you will be fine for a few hours.

  • I work out too (sometimes early in the morning or after work) and I also drink a ton of water! Not drinking is impossible for me too. I have ovulated twice since I started temping/testing and I have NOT gotten a true positive and it has been aggravating.

This last cycle I was POAS 3x a day and never had a true positive, but I was able to have a good idea because the line kept getting darker but never was as/more dark then the control line.

I am still determined to get a true positive so I keep trying!
