Hello again lovely people!
My son is getting better at the breast (hallelujah!) and it now takes only 40 minutes to get a few ounces in him. This is progress in our books.
With a definite if slow upward trend, I'd like to start reducing the number of feedings he gets from a bottle (it's all breast milk) so that majority of them are at the breast. However, I'm afraid to mess up my supply if I don't pump often enough. Pumping after every single feed seems doable if a baby eats on a regular schedule, but what about cluster feeding periods, which he seems to have in the mornings as well as evenings?
If anyone has done this before, I would love to hear how you did it and whether it worked out.
Thanks!
Re: From nearly-exclusive pumping to nursing
I am so glad we have this thread for supporting one another.
That gives me hope! I just finished nursing and was so proud that she sucked and guzzled the whole time, just like when she takes a bottle. She still needed a bottle after but this is a huge step for us!
I know all this but am still struggling to relinquish control. I worry so much if she is getting enough, especially because I am still pumping after and getting only a little less milk than I used to get without nursing first. I know baby is more efficient than a pump, but that efficient? Ugh, feeding is so hard.
I was SO proud of us. We were doing so good. Now, my nipple is being pulled through the shield. They don't make shields any larger so I am stuck not using one. My LC still hasn't called me back so in the meantime I am trying to latch without it and it HURTS BAD! Reminds me of the beginning when I stopped and went to EP. So, I'm taking a break these next few feedings but I don't want to quit but feel like throwing in the towel.
I do want to hang in there, I just want to figure out this latch issue. One step forward, 2 steps back.

LO is 9 weeks.
Hope the appointment tomorrow goes super well! Keep us posted!
My LO is 4 weeks and takes a 3 ounce bottle of my breast milk at every feed. She'll take less if I got her to nurse prior. How much do your LO's take?
