GTKY: First Dance Song

I'm bored at work so humor me.  What was/will be your first dance song? Why did you chose that song?

Our first dance song was Tenerife Sea by Ed Sheeran.  DH and I are both big Ed Sheeran fans.  When his new album came out and we heard that song, we immediately fell in love with it and decided that it needed to be our first dance song. Two weeks before our wedding, we got lyrics from that song tattooed on us in the font we used for our wedding invitations.

Re: GTKY: First Dance Song

  • We danced to "Love Your Love the Most" by Eric Church. We're both huge country fans and this song just describes us perfectly. Among other things, it mentions loving: sleeping in on Saturdays, college football, trucks, dogs, and (my personal favorite) Jack and Coke.

  • DH and I danced to Keith Urban's "Memories of Us" :)

He served a mission for our church and I wrote him for two years. He was gone when this song came out and I heard it and thought of him and sent him the lyrics. He came home, proposed, and we got married 5 months later! Celebrating 9 years this month!!
  • No dancing.  We got married in a Baptist Church.  We had "I Swear" sung at the wedding.  I prefer the "All-4-One" version, not the JMM version.  Does that count as my "first dance song"
  • This Year's Love by David Gray :)

  • I cross my heat, by George strait. An oldie but still good
  • Haven't had one/may never have one.

The closest thing would be "our song", which is tragically Piano Man by Billy Joel.

BF does this thing with our poodle where he holds up fluffybutts paws and makes it look like the dog is playing the piano, then BF sings "Sing us a song, you're the piano dog!" Makes me laugh every time.

I'll be by Edwin McCain. It was our song in high school so had to be our first dance!

  • Ours was 'Valentine' by Paul McCartney. He wrote it as his vows for his most recent wife and my DH and I just fell in love with the lyrics.

  • Awww @xojessijess15 I love that song!

Our first dance song was "Dance Me to the End of Love" by Madeline Peyroux. We picked it out years before we were engaged :)

We ended up eloping, but the song we had planned was R.E.M.'s "At My Most Beautiful." It's very 90's, sweet, and a little creepy - which describes both of us perfectly. :)

  • Ours was "Your Song" by Elton John.  DH and I used to dance in the living room of our apartment to that song and many other.  I just love the lyrics.
BFP 2/11/15 (EDD 10/13/15). MMC 3/30/15 D&C 4/3/15 "We will always love you"
DD1 - BFP 7/23/15 (EDD 3/31/16).  "We believe in you rainbow" DOB 4/2/16
    DD2 - BFP 2/9/18 (EDD 10/19/18).  "Grow baby grow!" DOB 10/24/18
    BFP 11/16/20 (EDD 7/31/21).  "Round 3 FIGHT!"
  • Ours was "All of me" by John Legend. My DH was overseas when we were planning the end of the wedding so it was hard to try and find something since we never really had a song before we got engaged. We were sitting in the car and heard it on the radio and we loved the lyrics so it was sort of fate!
  • A cover by Velete Music of Mathew West's When I say I do. It makes it a nice R&B type ballad found on YouTube and converted it to MP3
  • "The way you look tonight" by Frank Sinatra

We didn't dance at our wedding (we just did a nice luncheon). However, the night dh proposed he dressed up in 19th century attire (I love all things Jane Austen and period dramas). After he proposed I asked him to dance. We were up in the foothills so my car was right there. I rolled down the windows and played it from my car radio. I picked that song because I knew he was never going to wear an outfit like that again. :-)
  • Our first dance song was "Steady as we go" by Dave Matthews Band. My friend/one of our bridesmaids sang it with her guitarist from her band at the reception as we danced.  Still one of my favorites.

  • Ours was "Better Together" by Jack Johnson, my DH says everything is better when we are together, his idea for the song   :)

  • "Baby, I Love Your Way" by Big Mountain (original by Peter Frampton). It was one of two songs we picked as 'our' songs early in our relationship. Took dancing lessons, but turns out the dance floor was much smaller than what we practiced on and, to me, it was a disaster because I was so thrown off, but DH handled it well and no one noticed. :-)

  • Ours was I won't give up by Jason Mraz - but we danced to an acapella band version by "straight no chaser" - a great version of the song if you have never heard it!

Love everybody else's songs! All some of my favorites :)
  • DH and I shared our first dance to thinking out loud the Boyce avenue version.

This is my favorite song!! And favorite version of it!

  • DH and I danced to "Can't Help Falling In Love With You" by Elvis. Picking a song ended up being the hardest wedding thing for us to agree on...haha! I wanted a classic like Sinatra's "The Way You Look Tonight", he wanted something more original. Elvis was a compromise... ;)

that was the last song we danced to before we "disappeared"! :)
  • Ours was "Me and You" by Kenney Chesney.
  • We danced to You are the Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne. We wanted something that was not super popular and unique to us! I really wanted My Girl by the Temptations but that was vetoed by DH.
  • When You Say Nothing at All sung by Alison Krauss
  • Great feed btw. Gave me something to do, as I am now listing to the songs everyone listed.
  • Love this topic great idea! Our first dance song was Blake Shelton's song Mine Would Be You.

Okay, so no one laugh, but our first dance was...."I Wanna Grow Old With You" by Adam Sandler, from the Wedding Singer movie :)

That was our cake cutting song!
  • Our first dance was "If I didn't have you" by Thompson Square, but my FAVORITE dance of the night was our last dance. We danced to "I've had the time of my life" by Bill Medley (Dirty Dancing Soundtrack)  and it was amazing.

I already met with my kiddo that I am tutoring this summer, cleaned, came up with an awesome HFW of the day idea for next year, caught up on my guilty pleasure (The Bachelorette), and here I am...looking for something else to do. The weather is horrible today...windy, windy, windy, which doesn't help.
  • Awesome playlist!!!!!! Hooray!!!!!

  • We danced to ""Oh Love" by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood. I honestly wish I would have picked a different song. We should have danced to "Hold you in my arms" Ray Lamontagne. DH used to say he could hold me in his arms forever when we were dating.
