Triplets?!?! Excited and scared!

I just had my first ultra sound, and it's too early for a heartbeat yet, but the ultrasound showed what looked to be three different potential babies!!! I am so scared and excited at once! We have a 19 month old daughter, and I couldn't imagine adding three more to our family at once! My doctor said we need to do a repeat ultrasound in a couple of weeks, but the time between now and then I'm sure that's all I will be able to think of... Plus we leave for vacation for 2.5 weeks Thursday.... Vacation to go home- we live in Wisconsin while our entire families live in Florida. We are going to tell our families when we are home bc we want to share the excitement in person this time around- which will be our last if three babies join our family! Sorry for the long rant! Just had to get it out since no one else even knows we are pregnant!

    Very exciting news!

I also have a 19 month daughter, such a fun age!

  • wow that is wild! how many weeks are you? I have an 18 month old girl, and just found out I'm BFP after having a miscarriage earlier this year. I'm excited but trying to be cautiously optimistic. Do multiples run in your fam? x
  • Wow! Congratulations! Maybe see if there are any moms of multiples groups in your area for support.

  • IVF or natural?  Just curious

That's generally considered rude to ask. The term you're looking for is "spontaneous".

  • Oh please we don't know each other it would be interesting to know for us IVF ladies.
  • Omfg, I think I'd have a mental breakdown lol. Congrats!!!

No need to be rude. There's plenty of time to get to know each other and through time we will. It's considerate though to not ask with sensitive wording, especially off the get go. If you're looking for IVF ladies, PAIF/SAIF boards are good resources. Good luck.

  • Thanks a little overwhelmed, but excited. No multiples on either side of our families and it was natural. We took over a year to get pregnant with our daughter, this pregnancy happened rather quick! We had a miscarriage in March, skipped April, and got pregnant in June. I am 5 weeks 5 days along, with an EDD for March 2
  • I don't see how it's rude to ask if it was IVF or natural? Most people would assume IVF but @mthompson0530 said it was natural, which is freaking amazing without fertility treatment, congratulations! That's so exciting (and probably scary all at the same time.)
I am curious to know why the doc told you triplets? At 5 weeks all you can see are empty holes and some could be blood clots. Did he see fetal poles in all three or heartbeats? Are you going to tell your family you're expecting triplets or just that you're pregnant? I saw this gender reveal party where everyone thought they were having twins and they opened up one box that had blue balloons and a second that had blue balloons. Then they brought a third box from around the corner that had pink balloons and said triplets (or something to that effect.)

Wow, I'd be overwhelmed too! And not all of my thoughts would be happy ones, I'd say. Hope you'll have a happy and healthy... Well, it probably won't be 9 months ;)

  • We have just enough room for one baby we were joking last night if we had triplets we would be kicked out to the living room ;)
  • Congratulations! !!
  • Thanks! Both excited and a bit scared! Our doctor said possible three, but we will know more when we go back for another ultrasound. There were 4 things showing up, one she said she could tell was blood, but the other three were all potentially babies. The idea of triplets in insane and totally was not on our radar when we decided to expand our family!
  • Congrats!!! I'm in Wisconsin as well!
  • @alainazieman thanks! Where in WI? I'm in Green Bay!

    Lurker here...

I don't think it's a rude question. High order multiples are rare to conceive naturally and I think it's a valid question to know if this occurred naturally or with some intervention.
    Lurker McLurkerton also...

As an IF lady, I don't find it being rude. The term spontaneous is, however, the proper verbiage vs natural. Around 85%-90% of triplets are conceived via use of fertility medications. Most folks are going to assume, correctly or not, that fertility medication played a part in the conception of triplets and if she is indeed KU with 3, it won't be the last time she's asked.
