I feel like I should start this by saying that I do not have a problem with alcohol.... No really....
That being said three months (so far) without a nice Malbec is a long time. I'm too scared to have a glass with my first pregnancy, but as a 28 year old teacher during the summer.... Mama wants an Oberon...or a margarita...or Sauvignon blanc...
I've found a couple things that have been good substitutes and am wondering if any of you have anything you substitute for booze?
So far ... Slurpees , izze soda or virgin drinks when I want something fruity
And there's this water called "hint" - the cucumber flavor doesn't tast like beer but it also has a flavor without being sweet and can be satisfying when I want beer
My hubby bought me some NA beer and it tastes just like regular. I don't drink one often, but every now and then. Other than that I drink a lot of fruit/veggie smoothies and I like slurpees too.
I echo this. All of this. I'm a nurse in a busy ER, and I miss those nights where I could come home and unwind with some couch therapy and a glass of my favorite Pinot Noir. I haven't found any good "substitutes" quite yet, but I have found that mixing OJ and sparkling water sort of reminds me of a Mimosa. Sort of. I've also loved Virgin Bloodies while out to brunch. For some reason, lemonade is also really good. Oh, and I'll be doing the occasional pump and dump too, sister. No judgment here!
I went to a golf outing a few weeks ago and I thought I'd fare just fine without any alcohol. I'm an avid drinker, to an extent, while golfing. Anyway, I was introduced to O'Doul's and boy is it a pregnancy game changer for beer lovers. It was just like drinking an ice cold beer on a hot summer day. So delicious. I now have our fridge stocked with O'Douls to last me this summer.
A nice refreshing summer drink for me has been an Arnold Palmer (50/50 iced tea & lemonade). Makes a good substitute for drinking plain lemonade or iced tea. Also a great one if you were into John Daly's pre-pregnancy (same thing but with vodka)
I love virgin mojitos. I like slutty ones too, but I'll settle for virgin ones until December. I also made SO give me a sip his margarona the other day. I haven't figured out how to Virginize those yet.
We haven't spilled the beans yet and my hood is a bunch of partiers. It's been...tough, to say the least. I love the Arnold Palmers (loved the John Daleys more) and am so ready for the O'Douls. I also really like just club soda with a lime. It's quite refreshing. I'll also be on the pump & dump program!
Sanpellegrino aranciatta rossa & limonata sodas with lots of ice & fresh lime have been my favorite cocktails so far ~ before we told everyone our news I pretended they had vodka ~ a pretty glass & straw helped me fake my way through trimester 1. Lots of luck ~ I'll be in the pump & dump club too! A gf of mine told me they actually have test strips like the ones for the pool to test breast milk~sounds good to me ~ lol.
I'm with ya! I can't stomach anything sweet either, which takes my selection down to almost nothing. I literally haven't had anything to drink that I have enjoyed since conceiving!
One of the things I love about summertime is drinks on the porch/yard/balcony with friends and good music. I am really missing a cold beer or cocktail (especially in hot ass NYC).
@blackw15 and @jenmardel I am loving virgin bloodies too! Zing Zang is my favorite mix. What do you guys like in yours and how do you thin it out? I need to find a way to do that! Thanks!
-La Croix plain or mixed with grape juice -mock champagne party punch: 2 litters ginger ale, 1 46 oz can of pineapple juice, 1 64 oz container of white grape juice
I've been having fake mojitos - sparkling water, simple syrup, fresh lime and fresh mint leaves. The Kopparberg alcohol free pear cider is pretty good also.
I was a regular wine drinker before my pregnancy. I found for me personally putting sparkling water with lime in a wine glass and sipping on it was a good substitute. It's more of the holding the glass and sipping the wine that I think I really missed.
Also, my Kroger has a wine called Fre. It's ok... it tastes like what I imagine a glass of half wine half grape juice would taste like. But it's pretty inexpensive. I didn't try the moscato(maybe I will) but the merlot definitely had the taste to it. I just discovered that I didnt actually want to drink wine if I wasn't going to get a buzz. lol.
I like pouring a nice juice into a wine glass while reading my book on the couch. Pomegranate works as a red wine, and I love kedem grape juice in dark or white as a pretend wine. Also martinelli's sparkling apple cider if I want some bubbly. Yum!
It's HORRIBLE. I've never craved alcohol so much in my life!!!! My mom keeps pushing me to have a wine spritzer but I've been so proud of how I've been able to control myself!
Say NO to mothers!! (Especially pushy-nearly-alcoholic ones like mine.)
I was on vacation with my family last week and usually enjoy my wine thoroughly on this annual trip. This time I drank Fre Chardonnay and made mimosas with Fre Champagne. My husband made me virgin piña coladas which were nice in the pool. And I also have enjoyed la croix water with limes. Lol-I promise I don't have a problem with alcohol either, just a fellow teacher on summer break and craving my cocktails!
Yesterday my hubby and friends were drinking Landshark by our pool. I asked if he could rinse a bottle well and put sparking cider in it. He did and it was DELICIOUS as I drank it on my pool raft! Haha. Was even the same exact color as the Landshark!
I've tried the Fre wine and it's ok, but generally too sweet for me (I like dry wines). O'Douls amber is quite tolerable though (have to admit, I miss the buzz though!) I also quite like most of the La Croix waters and mixing club soda and cranberry juice with a wedge of lime.
Fourth of July is hitting me hard. We're bbqing ribs and playing horseshoes. I come from a big drinking crowd, they have beer pong and shots going. I want to join so bad but my sober-ness is depressing me so I'm hiding out in the room binge watching Netflix.
I'm not sure if i replied already to this or not. I can't see very well tonight because my eyes are tired and only one is willing to cooperate.
I'm not opposed to a little alcohol here and there but my body doesn't want it when i try. I'm craving beer and was trying to figure out how to fix it. (non alcoholic beer doesn't come in a good taste like i want)
I found out that carbonated spring water infused with lime tastes like a corona. If it helps.
Soda water with lime has been a huge craving of mine, I got the idea from a bumper on the November board when I was lurking and now I'm obsessed. We went to the bar with friends this weekend and I couldn't stop drinking it.

Otherwise, I love ginger ale on the rocks.
Is it December yet?!?!
