36 hours post partum... I've eaten everything I've seen. Normal? Who cares. I'm starving. Just sent husband in a midnight run to get me salad and crushed ice from the gas station. I was disappointed that he either doesn't love me or doesn't know me well enough to know that I also wanted a candy bar but didn't want to sound like a fatty by asking for one out loud.
Those who breastfeed on demand: do you wake the baby if it sleeps through a feeding?

Wake baby every three hours til she/he regains birth weight. Once birth weight is achieved, let him sleep as he wants.
Random question for @mellymar or any other animal aficionado. My pup is due for his topical flea and tick preventative, but I'm paranoid to put it on him and have him jump on the couch or bed and leave traces of it to later be picked up by LO. We also pet him all the time obviously. I feel like it's inevitable that the pesticide will reach lo. Am I being ridiculous here? That stuff is nasty!
Technically, yes, the stuff could get on other stuff which could then get on LO. But it only takes a few hours to dry. If possible, could you put it on right before bed and crate the dog or not let it into the bedroom for the night? If you do that, by the time you are interacting with the dog again in the morning it shouldn't be an issue. If not, maybe put it on in the morning then take the dog for a day at doggy daycare or a family members house so it can dry there? Or... Just put it on the dog and when you pet the dog be extra careful not to touch that area (you're more worried about not touching the wet spot and surrounding area, not the WHOLE dog) and make sure that dog does not rub against LO for the day, or hang out in LOs crib or your bed, etc.
Generally we've always said 'keep small children from touching the spot until it dries' and recommended the nighttime application, but I've never been specifically asked about a home with a newborn before (which thinking about it, blows my mind) so while I'm pretty confident the advice is the same, I've never actually discussed this scenario with a vet. Doesn't hurt to call the vet and ask. Or maybe the ped... I'm not sure who is the better resource for asking. Cause if your vet does not have children, they may not 'get' you and not be as helpful.
Still somehow treat the dog, tho. You don't want puppikins bringing in bloodsucking critters to your LO

I've worked with dogs in depth my whole life. My suggestion would be to give him the drops, and put him away for the day. Let him out by putting him on a leash and taking him to the door; same with the return. After applying, double wash hands with scading water and dish soap. Don't touch him or let him rub against things until the next day. That's the only way to keep chemicals offnof everything. Personally, I would just refrain from touching my guys and keeping him away from "baby surfaces".
ETA: or even better, follow @mellymar's idea of applying before bed
DH was holding Henry last night and I look over as I hear him say, "I love you so much, buddy." and see tears. He told me not to tell anyone, but he doesn't have to know about this it's just too sweet not to share. He always says he doesn't like kids and that he's afraid of babies and for a while I felt like he was only agreeing to have one because he felt like he should and knew how important it was to me. Ya'll, this kid has turned him into the biggest pile of mush. He shows pictures to everyone and constantly talks about how cute LO is and just snuggles him. He's starting calling him his little tree frog because of the way he tucks his butt up and burrows into his shoulder. Seriously so in love with these 2 boys of mine. Sometimes I think my heart will explode.

It's so fun to see that shift in our partners. My husband was very similar. He is a middle school teacher so he always says he is immune to human emotion but having this LO has made him a softie! There are certain faces LO makes and it just melts DH. LO also had his first real smile which brought tears to DH. I never thought I could love DH more but I totally do when I see the love for our family!

We went with an oral flea and tick med to avoid the grease with a toddler and baby in the house. It is what our vet recommends for anyone with small kids. It lasts 3 months. I can try to find the brand name, if you want.

I don't remember how long it lasts but there is also an oral product for fleas called comfortis. It does not protect against heartworms, tho, so if you are using a product like Revolution or Advantage Multi (which does heartworms, fleas, roundworms, hookworms, ear mites) and you switched to comfortis you would also need to add in some alternate kind of heartworm protection

Yes I used to because of my milk. I'd have to wake him up to feed even after he reached birth weight because I needed relief. Luckily, he was usually fidgety and ready, just not awake. Now I've either learned to sleep through, my body has adjusted to his schedule, or I'm just so tired.
I am hungry constantly. Almost worse than when I was pregnant honestly. My first 15 lbs came off fast. I'm hanging on to 15 and don't know how I'm going to lose it eating like this!

Thanks everyone, I took @mellymar 's advice and applied the meds last night and covered the couch with a big sheet and kept pup off our bed. I thought about the oral med but pup has had bad reactions to meds before so I wanted to avoid changing. So what I'm understanding is once the med is dry, it is not transferable/dangerous?

Once its dry its been essentially distributed over the body of the pet by the oils on its skin. So its not all concentrated in one spot, which is the major concern. I would still be on the lookout for your LO touching the dog then putting their hands into their mouth, but the idea of transference by the dog getting on your bed and your LO at some point being on the same covers is so very slim. If I were you I would personally only worry about my LO touching the application site on the animal then putting their hands into their mouth (there is still some dried residue there - the 'hairspray spot'). Or you touching the hairspray spot and then putting your hands in the mouth. Or hands in the eyes when they flail around like they do. Its one of those things where your mind can imagine things that can go wrong, but the likelihood of them actually occurring are so very slim and involve so many variables that must occur in order...
If it makes you feel more secure, you can bathe the dog 2 days (if you applied last night, you can bathe after tomorrow night) after applying without harming the efficacy of the medication. Then you know for sure puppy is all clean
After Master P's drs appt this morning, we still had about an hour and half - 2 hour window of time that LO should be fairly quiet and we decided to chance getting breakfast. We go to one of our fav places (cream cheese stuffed French toast, topped with fruit. Nom nom) and we get there and its fairly busy. Not packed, there are tables available, but we had forgotten its the day before a holiday in vacationland. Anyways, so we get seated and this kid looking like Justin Bieber comes to the table and asks about drinks. DH orders coffee, I get a soda. He bring the drinks (kinda - he puts a can on the table for me, but no glass. No big, I'll drink out of the can, but still) and menus and disappears. Forever (well, it felt like forever). So long another table was seated near us, they got their drinks and menus, had time to decide what to eat, and order. Meanwhile, DH and I are anxiously looking down at LO in the car seat, feeling every single minute of our quiet time window slip by. Eventually the owner notices DH coffee is empty, and at pretty much the same time a waitress from another section took pity and came over. Food came, was delicious, and scarfed quickly. Just in time, as LO starts to fuss as DH goes up to ask for the check. The manager apologized (I think he thought DH was asking for the check because he was pissed) and DH just told him no prob, we just wanted to make our getaway before the kid starts fussing.
As we leave we hear the owner telling the Beebs that families with babies should not be left hanging, presumably cause he knows the timing is so crucial (its a family joint, his daughter works there).
I have been a thousand kinds of stabby today. There was traffic every which way to and from our house...we went to buy a washer and dryer at lowes, waited for 20+ minutes and no one showed up to the appliance section after being paged twice so we just left. And if we wouldn't have gone we wouldn't have spent 40 minutes trying to get home in traffic. So frustrating. WE ARE TRYING TO THROW MONEY AT YOU HELLO!!!

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
I think someone switched my angel baby who has consistently slept for 3-4 hour stretches since birth, with this other baby who wakes up to scream every hour and a half. I finally got him to sleep this morning and wouldn't you know, the 4th of July parade goes by right outside our bedroom balcony. Every emergency vehicle in a 20 mile radius laying on their horns and blaring their sirens. Happy 4th b-(
@katyertl I did too. I was just really careful and wrapped an arm around him while he was in it. I guess that kind of defeats the purpose, but my arms needed a break!
So I'm gonna preface this by saying that we really did name our kid after a book character (both first and middle after book characters). Well, our across the street neighbors (super awesome people) found out about baby and learned his name just before taking off on a winery / brewery road trip weekend to our neighboring state of Michigan. Well, in Grand Rapids, MI, I'll be damned if they don't come across a brewery - Perrin Brewing Company. They come back saying "a book character, riiigght", but they also have cool t-shirts and tank tops for me and DH, and neat replica cans (like the bomber cans you can buy twisted teas in) to decorate with. (They also brought back a onesie from Founders Brewing Co. - the makers of my beloved Breakfast Stout)

@katyertl I saw on Pinterest where someone rolled up a blanket to put under LO's bum to have them sit higher.
Really?!?! So you think I'd be able to use it then?!
It's hard for me to say "go for it!" I'm just saying I did it very cautiously and it was fine. I think you can kind of feel if they are secure or not. I'd personally just feel it out. But that's just me!
so.. how many of the regulars are still pregnant? cause it feels like im alone in this :-w ( edit: words are hard.

So I have had a rash for a week and a half and have decided to go to the doctor should I call a dermatologist or and allergy doctor because it appears to be an allergic reaction?
I've been feeling guilty that we haven't had professional photos done and I haven't bought the month stickers... but realized we have our own routine that is making me feel better.
Our days start with a cuddle session in bed, and we take pics of LO hanging out, usually in his bouncy chair or snuggling with us, or just laying on the bed. Then I email 2-3 photos or a short video to the grandparents, with a few sentences on what's new with baby or what we are up to that day. With the time difference, the grandparents wake up to the emails. They have all said it's become their morning routine to check email first thing when they get up, and it's a nice way to start the day.
I think I'll just use these emails to make a baby book, after the first year or whenever this tapers off. Now I don't feel like a bad mama!
