  • @MelMel92 I get not getting your puppy from a puppy mill. They are horrid horrid places, but don't those pups need to be rescued too?! I am just curious, how do you save animals from places like that as well? I am way too much of an animal lover, our house is full of furry creatures.
  • @CaitLewis15 Awwww cockerspaniels are so sweet! We really want a Rodegian Ridgeback puppy.

  • @LiveNLove44 I'm so happy you loved it! Thank you! I'm pretty cautious about my posts and wording choices. So usually I keep to myself, seeing positive feedback though always feels good. It also makes me feel not so insecure about creating any uproar \:D/
  • @LiveNLove44 regarding word choice-- Hahahaha!!! I wasn't calling out this group specifically.
My frustration applies to a wider audience, like nearly everyone I speak with and see on social media. Including myself and friends and family who I adore and respect.
So what's the point of fighting this tide?
Well to quote Winston Churchill (because when is that not totally necessary and not overblown?)
"I can answer in one word: Victory. Victory at all costs. Victory in spite of all terror. Victory however long and hard the road may be. For without victory there is no survival."

Oh, I know you didn't judge, @LiveNLove44 :) I just thought it was funny that the topic of pasta salads even came up while I was eating one, haha!

For those adopting pups- good for you!!! We are actually having a second meeting with a 10month old pit tonight that's in foster care near us -- fingers crossed we are matches!! Our first pitty passed away a few months ago and we are such advocates for the breed, and this gal is such a little sweetie and would be a great addition to our family.

My UO... women who use their pregnancy as an excuse/crutch/disability when they are perfectly fine and capable of doing basic, everyday activities. I find it highly offensive to the women who have real issues and would kill to feel normal and healthy during their pregnancies.

ETA -  I realize this may not be that unpopular.

The best way to get those animals rescued seems to be to alert animal police. When the mill gets shut down, the dogs are taken in by shelters/humane societies, where they'll get a chance to be adopted and rescued. Sadly, if you "rescue" them straight from the mill, you are financially supporting that mill and making sure that more dogs and pups end up in that situation, which isnt what anyone rescueing a pet wants to happen!

Ok, cool. That is what I figured, but wasn't sure. It's so hard to tell sometimes! They are pretty good at masquerading as breeders. I sometimes wonder if the 'breeder' my husband got our boxer from wasn't a puppy mill. He got her right when we started dating so I showed up to his house and there she was! So tiny and cute, but way too little to be away from mom (5 ish weeks) and not papered. He saw the mom and dad, so maybe they were people breeding without a license (hopefully not a puppy mill!). Our lab was papered and sounds like she came from a more reputable breeder (again, she came along before the me and the boxer). I just want to save all the animals!

My UO, I'm having a natural birth and I don't want a doula. Many friends have had success with them and I even have a friend who is a doula but after much research i have decided that senario just doesn't gel with my personality type. But an educated opinion that effects no one but myself seems to be more than some people can handle. One friend actually said to my face, "You don't know what you're getting into, you'll give up on a natural birth if you don't have someone there to help." Gosh, thanks for the vote of confidence!
My mom had all three of us naturally with no doula in sight and lived to tell the tale. She also didn't breast feed and we turned out okay!

My UO - I know what breed of dog I want and I want this dog as a puppy. I'm not freakin Satan just because I'm not getting a dog from a rescue shelter!! We've rescued all my life. This is the first time I'm going to a breeder and I have never been met with so much negativity over a decision.
Same here. I've never bought a pet before my Cav puppy. But I really really really wanted a spaniel, like my other rescue, and had even contacted all the local shelters and rescues. No spaniels in the shelters, and after submitting a 60-question survey + essay to the cocker rescue, I was told I wasn't a candidate because I'm pregnant. Apparently pregnant women surrender their dogs at alarming rates? Anyway, I had my heart set on this certain type of dog that I love, and buying seemed like my only option. I get side-eye too but who cares? I'm in lurve
My current dog is from a city shelter, but I tried to adopt for a long time and was met with much of the same. A lot of the breed-specific "rescues" wouldn't adopt to me because I have a full time job. Seriously?? Now a requirement for adopting a freakin' dog is that you have to be home for the majority of the day? No wonder people go to breeders!

If a puppy is getting seperated from their mom at 5 weeks, that definitely makes the breeder a bad one. 5 weeks is WAY WAAAAAAY too early! Ideally you want to start weaning puppies around 3-4 weeks, and that takes some time. During that time, moms milk slowly dries up and the pups start learning a ton of things from mom in order to get by on their own. Usually weaning is completed around 7-8 weeks. 8 weeks would be the youngest age I'd consider "acceptable". Early adoption of pups is a great sign to spot a bad breeder.

Haha, I'm the same. I used to work at an animal shelter and gosh did I just want to take home every single one we got in! Ended up adopting a lot of rabbits and guinea pigs because they were hard to place, actually :P They had an amazing life in our backyard, plenty of space, a nice warm retreat, and they came inside if it got a bit too cold for my liking (which with the guinea pigs was all winter). If DH and I had the space right now, I know we'd be taking in all kinds of critters!

  • @MelMel92 She was way too little. So tiny! Thankfully the lab is so calm and patient, she kind of stepped in as a mom for her. The boxer used to crawl up and sleep on top of her (she still sits on her!) and now they are inseparable. But definitely not a great breeder. I almost convinced my husband to let me get this adorable rescue chihuahua, but we can't. We have 2 cats too! If we had a bigger house it wouldn't be as bad, but we are pretty full now.

I couldn't work in a shelter, I would want all the animals. Ha ha

leighann1 To search by board month....type in the subject you want to search and click on go.  Then it brings up every time that word was mentioned in all boards.  If you go up to the box where the subject appears that you typed  you should see an arrow in the right hand side.  Click on it for advanced search.....there you can choose what board to search on.  That is my PSA for the day!  Hope it helps!
Thank you! You just changed my life. To be fair, though, they could really make that more clear. Get it together, Bump!
  • @lnord7 same here!!! My plan was to just post pictures of her and enjoy all the shock!
  • And most the births I've done have been medicated or high risk but they felt they needed my help anyways. Doulas are not just for natural births.

@amberrmariee20 It's funny because when people ask politely if we could all stop repeating posts/asking unanswerable questions/start posting similar questions on one thread, some ladies get upset. I always think, "just you wait. After you've been here for awhile, you'll start requesting the same thing." It's nice that our group has grown together, so we have all learned how to keep things enjoyable for all.

I love the rapport we all have with each other, and it's because we've stuck around long enough to develop it. The complaint you mentioned is a surefire sign of a noob that hasn't bothered lurking. That and the unwarranted "why are yall so rude?!" Don't they know they're a bit late to this party? Like, by 5 months?

Yup! I've had other moms shame me for saying I want to go without an epidural. "You're naive, you'll give up, it's too hard to go without..." I don't think so, and given my bad luck with spinal taps as a teen, I'm honestly more afraid of the epi than childbirth. My mom did it all on her own, in three different decades, and she has pushed me to stand my ground to nay-sayers.

I'm so with you on this one. We got our cats from a reputable breeder. We have always rescued cats, but this time we knew we wanted a specific breed. We ended up "adopting" a retired breeding cat and purchasing her kitten. I don't feel bad. Our money isn't supporting some irresponsible jerk, and we take every opportunity we can to support our local humane society (we either volunteer or donate). We love our cats and treat them well, as we have with every other cat.

I was addicted to Grey's for the longest time. It was my guilty pleasure lol. I can't stand it now. After all of the good characters were killed off, there's no point in watching it now. :(

  • Guys, am I missing something? Why are all these people I've never seen any support from posting about how mean people in our group are? I think we have one of the nicest groups. We actually have a rep on this site for being too nice. Who is mean on here?

I think everyone is really nice. I'm not sure where all the "stop being bjtchy" comes from. I've never seen anyone being straight rude or hateful.
