Re: nursery ideas

  • Ok ladies quick question.. My Husband and I can't agree on which of these rockers we want to get for the baby.. They are still on zulily if your interested in one as well btw.. But we can't choose between the pirate ship or the penguin.. We want to get one for each kid we have but we can't decide on which for our son.. What do you guys think is cooler.. I like the penguin..
  • Loading the player...
  • My color scheme is sky blue, sage green, aqua, and peach for my baby boy. We're doing a story book theme that includes an alphabet valance I found on Etsy, framed book covers, and hot air balloons hung over the crib made out of paper lanterns and little baskets.

My two year old son would go for the pirate ship in a heart beat. He loves Jake and the Neverland Pirates and boats in general. He has a dragon one that he plays with on and off so I've saved it for number two.

My husband likes the plane one but they didn't have anymore that you could personalize.. Atleast not that he could find on his phone.. He really wants to personalize it.. Which is cute.. But he want sold on either but he liked the ship the best between the two.. I would rather ask a bunch of people on the bump the my family!! Mostly because you ladies will give me straight answers right away and my family will take FOREVER!!

You could always get the plane and get someone to personalize it for you. I have a lady that personalizes everything I buy for the boys. I say pirate ship or plane just because it seems to hold the interest of boys longer. DS1 isn't nearly as interested in the dragon but I got it on a swap site for $20.

That's a good pointe.. I didn't think about in the long run what would keep his interest the longest.. I'll have to find somebody to personalize it if we get the plane.. They are nice rocking animals and my husband just wants the best for our son which is sweet..

I like the ship or plane better.  Easy peasy personalization tip - Foam or other adhesive letters from the dollar store.  If you want them in certain colors or different designs check your local crafts store.

  • That's a good idea @VexyMommy
  • Do you ladies think that toy story is too grown up for a nursery theme? I was really set on my fox theme, but I keep seeing all of these really cute toy story ideas.

I think foxes would be cuter but that's just a personal preference. I don't think it's too grown up.

I don't think it's too grown up.. We are doing lion king for our son.. I think toy story would be a cute idea!!

Edit for spelling because auto correct is a little extra weird today..
  • Ugh I wish we could settle on a color scheme! We keeping going around and around with them. However, I may have finally found a combo we are both in love with... Navy blue, teal, gray, and white. Thinking top half of the walls teal with a faux fabric texture, bottom half navy blue, white trim and chair rail. Worried the navy might make the room look small though :( We want a vintage-ish travel/adventure decor (maps, airplanes, hot air balloons, etc.) but I can't seem to really make up my mind :/ I get anxiety just thinking about how much needs to be done and how much isn't even started.... Which is basically everything :(
  • I think a toy story theme is wonderful and you should go for it!

As I said earlier, we won't have a true nursery as we'll be sharing our bedroom for a while, but now that we know it's a girl I like this bedding and white furniture (crib, cube organizer, and wall shelf).
  • We aren't really going with a theme, just sticking with pale yellow and grey. I found this and we are going to do something similar, but our walls are going to be yellow with grey accents, so the letters will prolly end up being yellow with dif shades of grey (not 50!). I've gotta try out darker shades of yellow to see if they would look good on a pale yellow wall. I have 2 nieces that are over the moon excited for their new cousin so they are going to help me paint the letters :)

I really like those colors! I agree with you on the navy blue. Maybe keep to bottom half white with the chair rail, and use navy blue accents?

I have anxiety about it too. I feel like I have some much to decide in such little time, and I too have nothing started...
  • Pinterest has been the greatest thing ever lol. DH is a hunter and I wanted to stick to that theme since this is our first son. I didn't like any of the camo bedding sets and the colors so I found a more modern hunting nursery. The colors are, tan, blue and gray, and white. I found individual bedding pieces on etsy with deer head fitted sheets that I will be ordering and a lot of the little things can be found at hobby lobby. We have wooden floors but we decided we will either go with the white faux polar bear rug or a deer skin rug. It sounds crazy I know, but when you see all of it together it looks amazing.

I still have everything from my other children. I will paint the crib gray, and the dresser will be primitive blue and also be used as a changing table on top. I never had a rocker/glider so I will be buying one and it will be gray. I'm so excited to start on the nursery.

I am in love with a lot of the deer and arrow bedding I've seen.  It's really adorable.

I almost did this theme instead of the fox theme. I was divided between the deer/arrow and fox theme for quite a while. DS1 has an entire camo room at my dad's house complete with a duck lamp and real tree camo clock. Lol. Deer are super cute and nowhere near as overwhelming as an entire camo bedroom!
  • Any suggestions on how to blend baby decor with 10yr old decor?  The colors the 10yr old likes are at least the same colors we're going for and the furniture is white.

Cube organizer with colored organizers that match for babies side of the room? You could set up baby toys on top of the organizer to clearly distinguish what's baby's vs. older sister. My mom used to divide our room right down the middle, one girl on the left wall and one on the right and all of our furniture would be divided to our side. Each girl could pick out wall decor for above her bed.

Honestly? I'd just forgo the baby stuff unless it's necessary. We're putting a changing table on a hand painted dresser and have the crib but other than that our nursery is pretty far from babyish. My mom gave us a cool quirky stuffed turtle but I was still digging certain stuffed toys at 10.
  • My fiancee makes custom furniture, so we are building the furniture out of white oak and american black walnut - they are beautiful together.  I'm doing a Disney princess theme, but I want it to look a little classier and more elegant than some of the Disney themed nursery's I've seen.  The main focus is Beauty and the Beast, because I've always been a little obsessed with that movie, lol.

First time pregnant and so excited!

  • We are having a boy & the theme for the nursery was going to be under the sea. However we got a few free ornaments & lamps that are more pirate-like so we will be making a sea/pirate theme. Currently working on a Rubbermaid bin which I'm transforming into a treasure chest! Hubby will be painting a mural in all 4 walls! :) Oh! & white furniture.

The first thing I'm buying for the nursery will be this memory balloon ceiling light. The second thing will be a white lamb skin rug. It's a girl but we don't want everything to be pink. I've got SO many ideas! Can't wait to get started in September! :)

@ashes0601 is this your nursery? You're on top of it....nice work if it's yours.
  • Yeah that's impressive! My nursery is pretty much just storage for everything I've collected for baby so far
  • Also @VexyMommy my sister is 8 years older than I am and we shared a room when my brother got older. The biggest thing is to make sure they both have their own designated space. We shared a bunk bed and had our own side of the closet but no other separation other than that and it was chaos! I always wished I had my own side because I'm pretty introverted.
  • My fiance and I are team green and decided to go with a Star Wars theme.. I know, I know.. nerd alert! But after looking at some pinterest ideas, I got pretty excited and my fiance is ecstatic lol I think I'm gonna paint the logo on one wall and buy some smaller canvases to draw and paint baby versions of the characters to hang on the other walls.. I also found these awesome lightsabre wall lights that allow you to change the colors.. so I'm going to leave them green for now and once our little bean is here, I'll change them to blue or pink =) thinking of going all out and creating a ceiling that looks like it's lit with stars, but we'll see how I feel about doing all that in a couple months haha

I actually originally thought I might attempt to paint the death star on the smaller, third wall in the room but the mobile sounds just as awesome! (and a hell of a lot easier!) Haha =) as for the ewoks, I'm sure they will make an appearance on at least one of the canvases! I need to start drawing these things out soon - I'm giving myself a decent amount of work for a baby who won't know the difference between yoda and my left boob!
  • Yes it Is - i feel like I've been nesting since I was 4 weeks!!!!
  • For those of you who can't paint, I purchase peel and stick wallpaper at target that worked great for an accent wall- it peels right off when you want to go back to the paint! Here is our wall- we went with a textured blue/mint green wall for our little boy. White furniture, gray glider, and gray/navy accents is the plan..

  • I'm so behind on this thread! A lot of really great ideas on here.

We decided to keep it simple, and do a pink & gold color scheme. It's popular right now, so there's a TON of ideas on Pinterest, and a lot of decor options from Etsy. Plus, baby won't care either way and she can grow into it. This is my inspiration right now:

Pink and gold is my favorite combination (also my wedding colors so I am biased). Lovely for a little girl!

That's an awesome idea I might want to use in more than just one room of the house. Thanks for the tip.
