My boyfriend's family is mad at me and thinks I'm rude because I haven't gotten thank you notes out yet. Yes, it's waaaay past acceptable time, but still. I was incredibly busy the whole third trimester and now I've had a newborn for a month. I did this to myself but I'm frustrated that people don't understand.

I'm trying to do a few per day I'm home with LO but I'm "behind" too - shower was mid-April. I think most people understand though, or they should. Wedding thank yous get a year - anyone know what shower gifts get as a normal grace period with proper etiquette?

@hoodoll82 this isn't the first drama that's gone along with the shower either. 99% (that's not an exaggeration) of the attendance was his family, of which I hadn't met about 85% of. So, we were all meeting for the first time, and his family was being extraordinary rude at one point, and when my mom attempted to control the situation (in an extremely polite manner) they all decided that she was rude as hell and they basically hate her now. So now I'm being grouped in as the apple not falling far from the tree, even though no one had a problem with me before this. I'm just really frustrated. And his family acts very "holier than thou", so I'm pretty sure my handmade thank you notes are going to get some pretty negative response.

They should be impressed that I'm putting this much effort into these with a newborn at home.
  • Is anyone else having difficulties getting LO to sleep on their back? He sleeps so much better when he's on his belly.

@SammeMotley the absolute best cream for rash is Triple paste..... I only use that when they get a rash.... All the others seem better suited for prevention.

Searching for reasons to stop breast feeding... I don't want to but dealing with the mastitis and all the nasty side effects of whatever infection my body is battling I feel the only time I even can pay attention to her is during breast feeding and then I immediately want to lie down and take a pain killer... Which I avoid due to nursing... Ugh .... It was so easy with DS and LO is an even better nurser.... This all sucks so bad.

Everytime I put LO down she starts screaming like 2 minutes later. Can't get anything done today!
Anyone else's baby grunt and cry like nuts when pooping or having gas? I know it's normal but sometimes it makes me think she has it worse because of how much she freaks out

All of this. Mine is the same way. I have been trying a little gripe water for the gas- helps a little. As for the crying, if he's tired I let him fall asleep on me before putting him down, if he's just fussy I just put him on the boob bc a growth spurt is my only guess (4.5 weeks)

    2 questions:
If baby spits up, does that mean he will be hungry like right away now?- this just happened over here so now I'm paranoid of spit up

Anyone else have trouble getting all the air pockets out of the milk storage bags to freeze? Does it matter?

This was my day today! Baby up from 6 am to noon and could not stay asleep for more than 5 minutes. I couldn't get any food in my mouth and my patience was thin. She wanted to be held and not even that kept her from grunting and being fussy.

My mom drove up, arrived at 12:30, and baby falls asleep. This kid is exasperating sometimes!

At least my mom has her now and I'm taking a nap!
  • Still have trouble with formula tolerance. I feel so bad because I can hear my LO's tummy going crazy, but the pediatrician wanted me to wait a while to change her formula to see if she adjusts to it, which makes sense. I've been using gas drops during the night if she wakes up screaming and I can hear her tummy, but it doesn't seem to give her relief for that long. She is a week old today and I still watch her like a hawk when she is sleeping...I'm a blanket nazi lol, I am so paranoid it's going to get up around her face. I definitely try to take on all the responsibility of taking care of a baby, I need to learn to ask my SO for more help. But, on a positive note, I'm loving being a mom to my little monkey :x
  • Ladies that had an episiotomy or tear, how is healing going?
I'm 1 week PP & thinking about doing an Epsom salt sitz (been doing plain water ones). I'm having some itching, which I think is healing....

Maybe he is having belly issues. When LO has gas I put him on his belly and he sleeps so good.

    Everyone

Ladies that had an episiotomy or tear, how is healing going?
I'm 1 week PP & thinking about doing an Epsom salt sitz (been doing plain water ones). I'm having some itching, which I think is healing....

Mine itched the entire 2nd week and then burned like crazy for the 3rd. I looked for the first time at exactly 4 weeks pp and it looks completely healed to me, but I only had a single stitch.

Question to STM or even those who think they're healed; Does anyone else's virginias look kinda...different? Kinda misshapen? I'm not talking about being indistinguishable but I'm pretty sure I don't look exactly the same. I expected body changes but with the stitching I thought for sure this was one thing that would look the same as before. I wonder if I healed incorrectly... :-??

FTM but from what I've heard things will never look the same again haha - even with stitches. You're super brave for looking, I'm 3 weeks PP and I have no clue when I'm going to feel up to taking a peek.

@kes166 it took the entire 4 weeks to muster up the courage. I figured since there was only one, and doc said it should have dissolved in 2 weeks, 3 tops, i figured it was finally safe. I was really relieved to not see anything. I have a weak stomach lol
  • I still haven't ventured down there to take a look. Definitely itched week 2. Feels better now but pooping still is uncomfortable.
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • 2 weeks pp, having itchiness. Don't know if I'll ever look. I had an episiotomy with my first as well, just hoping it all goes back somewhat normal lol.
  • Biggest accomplishment? I have birth on Father's Day. So happy he is here but seriously, 2 days later and I am still sitting here stunned by how fast the pregnancy, labor and delivery went. I loved being pregnant and sort of miss it.
He's jaundiced and the trend is going up so he has to have some continual testing. Hopefully, he starts trending down soon. Nursing a lot so hoping that will help.
  • 2 weeks pp and I am not looking yet. I just know its bad.
  • I looked almost right away and then a couple of days ago (at almost four weeks pp). But I have a 4th degree tear and was freaking out about it. I haven't had any problems with it and had little itching. I hope that's not because all of my nerves are shot :-/
  • Good to know ladies! I checked a few days ago & only saw one stitch but he was doing more than 1 stitch after birth, so I'm guessing it was deeper... It stopped hurting 2 days ago, so that's good.

Another question - anyone feeling or felt (yay for past it!) the baby blues? Mine only come in the afternoon evening, which sucks cause DH gets home at 6 & I'm all hormonal. Nothing major, just feeling "bummed" & teary. It goes away by my first night feeding. I've read it should only last 2-3 weeks PP.
  • I'm nearly 2 weeks post giving birth, and my episiotomy is still sore but it's definitely better in the last few days. I do have to be careful getting up and down from chairs, especially when I'm carrying LO. I've tried looking but it's an awkward angle so I've never been able to see much - probably just as well!

As for baby blues, I've certainly had my teary moments, and gotten upset about silly little things that normally wouldn't bother me. It's mainly when I'm particularly sleep deprived, getting a little extra sleep works wonders!

I wish we could go more than 30 min between feedings. She's not really eating, just prefers to be on my boob. My poor nipples. I know it takes a few weeks for feedings to regulate and to figure out night and day but mama's tired.

Have you tried pacifiers? My LC actually recommended them early on which shocked me bc I thought they were a big no no if you are EBF. Babies have a natural desire to suck. Save the nips!

She'll use them for DH. But if she can hear/see/smell me, she spits the pacifier out and only takes a boob. I've had DH take her to another room for an hour just so I can get a break. I know this phase doesn't last long so I'm trying to be patient.

Has anyone introduced gripe water? My girls are 5.5weeks and they get so gassy in the evenings/night. We've tried similac for sensitive babies and I've been watching what I eat (we pump & formula feed) so I'm not sure what else to try (these girls could probably fire themselves across the room sometimes their farts are that loud and strong!)

Edit: also we were using the medela bottles but since have switched to Tommie tippe to try and relieve them some. Not sure it's working
  • @klkonwi LO sleeps only on his stomach, think about how can they sleep well on their back especially having hyper reflexes?... Just like my daughter that's the only way she would sleep..on their tummy they feel so secure and are able to sleep. I know they say only on back now, but "they" used to say the opposite. It's more important for me to know he is getting some sleep... There are many factors involved in SIDS, tummy sleeping isn't it.. I keep him next to me and like my daughter he is a pro sleeper... So many friends struggle so long and hard with sleep, as soon as they put their LOs on their tummy they are amazed.
  • @beckyk9109 my LO has terrible gas pains - we have started using gas drops with simethicone as the main ingredient. She now sleeps through the night with only one 2am feeding - she's not near as fussy. If we do a feed 3 ounces or larger and forget them, we have one fussy girl.
  • @HayesRN13 I'm so glad you said that. I was beginning to feel like a bad mom. I cannot for the life of me get him to sleep on his back. I was about in tears trying to.

I've also had the baby blues mostly in the afternoon, I think it may be because by then, I'm super tired again. I've found that taking a nap has helped. I've also started to take a fish oil supplement (suggested by my midwife) to help, and while I've noticed that my blues are starting to get better I can't say it's due to that exclusively.
