I wish we could go more than 30 min between feedings. She's not really eating, just prefers to be on my boob. My poor nipples. I know it takes a few weeks for feedings to regulate and to figure out night and day but mama's tired.
Have you tried pacifiers? My LC actually recommended them early on which shocked me bc I thought they were a big no no if you are EBF. Babies have a natural desire to suck. Save the nips!
Our little guy is like this but refuses to use a pacifier. We've tried a few different types but It's as if they are too big because they make him gag. I have to go back to work in a few weeks and am now worried that he might not take a bottle. I probably should introduce a bottle to him sooner than later even though the LC told us to wait as long as possible.
Good to know ladies! I checked a few days ago & only saw one stitch but he was doing more than 1 stitch after birth, so I'm guessing it was deeper... It stopped hurting 2 days ago, so that's good.
Another question - anyone feeling or felt (yay for past it!) the baby blues? Mine only come in the afternoon evening, which sucks cause DH gets home at 6 & I'm all hormonal. Nothing major, just feeling "bummed" & teary. It goes away by my first night feeding. I've read it should only last 2-3 weeks PP.
I don't love that you have them but I am definitely feeling it, too. My emotions are all over the place. My husband is home this week but returns to work next week; he works nights and it's when it hits me the most! I'm ready to feel emotionally normal again.
My LO turned out to prefer sleeping on his side. Once we figured that out, he slept much better.
Regarding looking "down there"... I did two days post partum and it really traumatized me. Never again!
Stitches were itching and starting to fall out around day 10. Better after a few days, but at day 18, I still have a couple. Not sure how many stitches I got, doctor just said, "We put just a few stitches in your virginia to fix a very small tear."

We were trying to avoid them because I am ebf but used them out of being desperate one night and my LO has had no problems!
Ladies that had an episiotomy or tear, how is healing going? I'm 1 week PP & thinking about doing an Epsom salt sitz (been doing plain water ones). I'm having some itching, which I think is healing....
Mine itched the entire 2nd week and then burned like crazy for the 3rd. I looked for the first time at exactly 4 weeks pp and it looks completely healed to me, but I only had a single stitch.
Question to STM or even those who think they're healed; Does anyone else's virginias look kinda...different? Kinda misshapen? I'm not talking about being indistinguishable but I'm pretty sure I don't look exactly the same. I expected body changes but with the stitching I thought for sure this was one thing that would look the same as before. I wonder if I healed incorrectly... :-??
FTM but from what I've heard things will never look the same again haha - even with stitches. You're super brave for looking, I'm 3 weeks PP and I have no clue when I'm going to feel up to taking a peek.
I had to start looking down there on day 5 because I was having muscle spasms and had to put the muscle relaxer there!!! Not what I wanted to look at. I actually had major anxiety about having to do it. I had to take them for about 8 or 9 days and in the end looked much better.

I was a little emotional right after the birth. I am two weeks and three days pp and I ace been super emotional the past 3 days or so. But I think it is because my husband is back at work full time and now going back to all of my stepsons baseball stuff ( he plays travel and there was a big tournament this past week) and so he has been gone more than I would like. The. He is being so wonderful when I am upset that it makes me more upset!
4 weeks PP & still having major insomnia problems. I took Unisom during my pregnancy to help me sleep & before that I was on a sleep med. I can't take anything now since I'm EBF & even if I wasn't I'd still need to be alert when the baby wakes at night to care for her so meds are out. I'm basically only able to sleep when I'm dead exhausted & only then when the baby's asleep or DH is around to take care of her. I've tried relaxation, deep breathing, putting the tv on to distract myself & nothing is working. So frustrating & I'm worried what will happen when I have to go back to work. Hoping it gets better by then.
Sorry if this has been asked, has anyone dealt with clogged tear ducts? My poor baby, she is a week old today and her eyes are so yucky. I have been cleaning them like they told me to, but I've been reading about putting expressed milk in her eyes? How do I do that? I'm not pumping yet, really have no plans to as I am a sahm. Can I express into a syringe and put it in that way?
LO is just over 2 weeks old and the past few evenings she's been so fussy. A bad pattern beginning. She fusses through her feeding before bedtime to where I feel like she's getting extra air and not a full tummy, afterwards when we're settling her for bed she cries so hard she eventually spits up, and then of course wants fed again before too long.
She doesn't spit up any other time of day and doesn't seem particularly gassy. She's also does not cry "3 hours or more", which seems to be the internet's definition of colicky, so I'm not sure exactly what's bothering her to help her feel better. Anyone else dealing with the "witching hour" fussiness or have advice??

Our baby has one right now for the last few weeks. We've been doing warm compress wash clothes and the Ped prescribed an ointment. Haven't tried breast milk but I'd assume the suringe thing would work!
@swaugh14 ditto with my son, who is about the same age. I've read this is the time of their first growth spurt, so I'm trying to just be patient and let him nurse more, even though he's not really swallowing the whole time - lots of comfort nursing. My little dude refuses to go to sleep and then gets overly tired and starts fussing. Normally he's a good sleeper and only cries if he has a dirty diaper or is genuinely hungry. Putting him in the baby carrier after I feed him (I have a Moby) is all that's been working for me. Or laying on my side and letting him nurse to sleep (takes foreverrrr though).
Good luck!! It's so hard, so am trying to just remind myself how short this time is, and am trying to enjoy it... even through gritted teeth sometimes ;-)
@virginiaunicorn11 You're probably dead on about a growth spurt. It's just awful not always being able to help them or know exactly what's bothering them. And yes, I agree on trying to enjoy even the slow frustrating times! A good reminder.

Thanks for your feedback! I'll ask my ped about an ointment if the breast milk doesn't help. I've also been doing the warm compress.
@mrs1374a we had/have a clogged tear duct. Pedi said to massage under (like mid eye) up to tear duct with a clean finger a few times a day (like thr line where we get bags under our eyes- I'm sure all us new moms are familiar) im sure there's a video online. I also had expressed a drop or two of BM onto a clean finger and just drop it into the corner of his eye. Seemed to help. We haven't had any discharge for over a week and we didn't ever need drops.
Pedi said if the eye ever got crusty with green discharge to call and they'd call in some drops. No biggie
My girls had clogged tear ducts and they seem to have completely cleared up from using a warm compress. It took us probably 2weeks I would say to be completely clear.
Thank you all for your responses. I expressed some milk and put that in her eyes about an hour ago. I'll put more in later and I've been doing the warm compress. I'll also try the massaging. thanks ladies!
FTM here, how do to know when to go up a size in diapers? DD has been using pampers since day 1 and we just recently started on a pack of huggies and now she's been having blow outs and poop running down her leg which we've never had a problem with before. She is 8 lb 2 oz now and the newborn pack says up to 10 lb, is this a brand issue or does she need to go up to size 1?

STM. I always had that issue with Huggies. I am a Pampers mom! I also tried Honest Company diapers & love those as well.

Huggies brand never worked well for my baby. Always had leaks regardless of size. But they work really well for other babies... They are all shaped differently. Just trial and error to find the perfect ones for you.

I use pampers, mine was born 8 pounds 6 ounces and I always used size 1
My LOs cord stump fell off this morning. But it looks red and irritated. Small pieces of scab are flaking off and sticking to his onsies... He doesn't look uncomfortable but I can't imagine that not bothering him... Is this normal? Did your LOs look like that?
@SarahBaby87 Yes, my LO's also had scabs and a little additional bleeding for about a week after the cord fell off. I think it just kept getting bumped by her and clothing. The pediatrician said that was normal but to watch for puss which could mean infection.
@SarahBaby87 LOs stump fell off at 9 days but then scabbed over and continued to bleed for another week. All her newborn clothes are stained with a bit of blood now. Unless it's oozing pus or smelly, it should be fine.

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
I was hoping that wasn't the case since we have a huge supply of huggies that were gifted to us. I have no idea where they were purchased but are there any stores that exchange unopened boxes of diapers?

I returned lots of unopened boxes to Walmart. No idea if they were purchased there or not but I never had a problem with them taking them.

I took 3 packs back to target, just told them they were gifts and they gave me a gift card. No problem!
@dancegurl1118@swaugh14 Thanks for the quick responses! I've got a while before my next pedi appt for him and just wanted to make sure this sounded normal.
@SarahBaby87 my kid's cord fell off on day 4 and has been getting slowly better (he's 2.5 weeks now). At the risk of being That Mom, coconut oil has really helped the belly button. It's stopped bleeding and the scabs are disappearing fast.
I was gifted a jar of the stuff and had never used it before, but as I've said before, I'm a convert...
So, one good side effect of all this cluster feeding: I put my real jeans on today!! Felt like coming home. Screw the weight, it's just nice to have clothes I'm comfortable in! I was too cheap to invest in a single maternity pair of pants.

Pampers size 1 is for 8-14 lbs. My guess is that it depends on your baby's shape. Our LO is in between sizes so we are now using size 1 because she has chunky thighs and the newborn size were too tight (but of course now we have a bunch of newborn diapers we can't use and they are already open)
Thank you all for your responses. I expressed some milk and put that in her eyes about an hour ago. I'll put more in later and I've been doing the warm compress. I'll also try the massaging. thanks ladies!
We did too, and it went away with warm compress and massaging under the eye as others have said.
How about unopened tubs of formula, does anyone know if youvcan return those? They're sealed like crazy so I'd assume it'd be easy enough to check, but I could see why the store would refuse to exchange them. I bought a bunch of one type, tried another, and realized that I like the new one better. So now I'm stuck with three tubs of the old stuff.
Happy to be posting on this thread now as a STM!! We opted to stay an extra night in the hospital due to LO being on the borderline of a couple of things like low blood sugars and jaundice. Kinda glad we did because I think DS now has a cold and DH doesn't feel well too. It's nice to be able to focus on LO without having to care for a sick toddler, if only for a day. My nurse is also simply amazing. She's always so complimentary and even drew me an Epsom salt aromatherapy bath. I kinda want to take her home with me too. LO is doing great and I slept for a good six hour stretch last night with DH help. Feel like a new woman today. 8->
Huggies were terrible with DD but I risked them on LO since DH got a box at his diaper shower and they work for him. It's all about anatomy and baby's build. I learned to tuck his penis down so he didn't leak around his tummy. With DD it was important to get a good fit in her back since tee tee goes down for girls.
So sleep deprived I actually stared at our drawer of Honest Diapers wondering if there's a print he'd sleep better in. I usually use cloth so this would in theory be a valid thought . . . I've temporary quit nighttime cloth to give myself a break on changes and laundry for a few weeks. LO is grunting until he wakes himself up, screaming, and then nursing or rocking to calm down enough to go back to grunting. All in 30-60 minute cycles. I am stuck wake all night because the grunting segments are too short for me to fall asleep. Ugh. Night 4. I should never have complained about having to nurse him every 90 minutes at night. That sounds heavenly.
