I've taught Pre-K for the past three years. This year, I am moving up to 4th grade!! Wooho. Our summer began June 3rd. My summer mainly consists of finishing up my masters!
I'm a teacher too! Just finished teaching second grade 3 weeks ago.. next year, I'll be teaching gifted K-5 (so I'll really have done it all!) Prior to this year, I had taught first grade gen ed and team taught in first and fourth. We go back end of July for in service and the children come back Aug 5th. This is our first and while I wish I were due a month later (magic date for leave would have been March 10th), I could not be more thankful to be home during the first trimester! The fatigue has been kicking my behind! The nausea and aversion to foods started this week. I love that I can just stay home and take it easy. I just dunno how or when I'm going to tell my principal. She knows I had wanted a baby which is why she didn't put me into team teaching but this is my second year at the school and it will be my first year in a new position. Yikes! I moved to ATL 2 years ago when we got married and have taught at 2 different schools because I got leveled due to low enrollment at the beginning of my second year. I put off having babies for a bit because I was beginning all over again but now I realize that change is just going to be the nature of my career.. I do hope to finish out my career as a gifted teacher tho!
I am a middle school special ed teacher! I have the kids with cognitive and physical impairments. I love love love my job!! The having the summer off to deal with the first trimester sickness is such a bonus
I'm a 6th teacher in Alaska and we've been out for almost a month. I am so happy I hit the first trimester over the summer; I can't imagine dealing with the exhaustion at work everyday! I have to take an hour long nap at noon everyday just to make it through the day!
Hey there! I am a teacher as well... I teach middle school math at a parochial school in Detroit. Our school is in session for 11 months so we have about 3 weeks of school left. With the fatigue, it's getting harder and harder to get up in the mornings I-)
I teach advanced placement English in the local high school, I own a dance studio, and I also coach junior high cheer. The principal just also asked me to teach one class of drama. Our last day was may 14, and we go back the first week of August.
I had a loss due to early labor in January, so I'm actually ready for school to start because I'm hoping that makes the days go by faster in this pregnancy so I can relax!
Hi, I'm new to the group. I'm a 9th grade Biology teacher in Covington, GA. We've been out since the end of May. I'm SO glad I have this time to research & learn without the interface of work since this is my first pregnancy.
I am a teacher too. Didn't do my intro yet but I am so pumped it's summer. I am going to Disney and just plan on hitting the gym a few days a week and cleaning my house on the other daya. All things that need to be done haha )
I teach 6th grade math. My last day was last Thursday, and we left for a Florida vacation the day after and just got back. Vacation was fun, but I feel like break is just starting now! I always wanted a summer baby so my maternity leave could align with summer, but after trying for so long, I'm just super excited to be pregnant. My first was born in November, and it actually ended up being a nice time of the year to be on leave.
Hooray for teachers!!! I teach high school English and Speech & Debate. I just finished year seven. We just got back from our week long national debate tournament. Summer can officially begin - along with the homework I have my class this summer. I am just starting a certificate for gifted education. Hooray for sleeping in on weekdays!
I'm a middle school science teacher. I'm so glad I get to take naps with my DD. If we were in school right now, i would be showing Bill Nye and sleeping under my desk.
I was just thinking the same thing- northstar. I'm glad for summer vacation and extra glad that my toddler still naps, so I can relax and recharge during these early weeks.
Lots of teachers, love it!! I teach 3rd grade and have been off for about a week. Morning sickness actually kicked in at dinner with some colleagues after the last day of school - I'm so glad to be off while feeling awful! I do miss my kiddos already though!
Me! I teach Sign Language and will be teaching an online course this summer and that starts next week! I've been done with the school year since the last week of May.
I also teach Sign Language in NY! We don't finish school until this Friday though. Can't wait to have the summer off!
Ok so earlier I said that I am teaching summer 1, but planned to take summer 2 off, but would PROBABLY teach it if they offered it to me? Yeah. . . well, they offered lol. So looks like I'm working all Summer with 1 week off before Fall starts.

You can do it! I taught all summer when I was 8/9 months pregnant. It sucked but I loved the extra money
Late to the party....second grade teacher here. Kids were done June 1 and I'm loving summer home with LO. No big plans for the summer. DH and I moved last summer and I did long term subbing for a year. Now I'll have my own room in the fall, so I'm excited to get it ready! I hated having to tell my principal I am pregnant when I just got hired. Luckily, he's pretty cool about it.

I am a middle school special education teacher! I work with children with learning disabilities and behavior disorders. Next year my will be my 3rd year and I'm really excited about it. Before teaching special Ed I also taught middle school math.
I am nervous about telling my principals about my pregnancy and getting a good substitute, but very excited to be having this baby. I am trying to decide whether I want to take 6 weeks or 12 weeks of unpaid leave when I have the baby. I guess I have a while to figure things out!
@OrangeBliss - Getting a good long term sub worries me sooooo much! Doing sub plans for one day is a stress - I can't imagine doing it for over a month!
I am not as much worried about my lesson plans because I use a very structured curriculum. But I am worried because as a special education teacher I have federally/state required paperwork that has to be done on each student every year and so my substitute will have to know how to do that as well.
About 2 years ago I missed 4 weeks of school for a surgery and the substitute didn't follow any of the substitute plans that I left...when I got back the parents were very upset. But I think this time will be different because I will have so much more time to prepare than I did when I had to have surgery.
I think it's impossible to leave daily plans. I left more of an outline of what my sub should try to cover in the time I was ou for each of my classes. I left her my classroom management and routines because you will have set those up with your kids by the time she takes over. I have a smart board and provided her with lessons that she could edit. Each teacher has her own style and needs some flexibility when she takes over your classroom. I also teach math, so it was a very sequential follow the book plan. The other 6th grade math teacher helped a ton. It will all work out.
Your new baby is going to be so much more important than work. You'll go back and the kids will have missed you, but they survived. Take the 12 weeks if you can afford it, and don't even think about work!

So excited to have more SPED teachers ! I left my old school that took me an hour to get to work and was hired at a new school that will only take me ten minutes to get to. 2 weeks later we found out we were expecting. I was so scared they would be mad about hiring me pregnant so I told them right away. I didn't want to start off the new year at a new school on the wrong foot so I went with honesty.
I told them this was my first pregnancy since my MC in 2011 so we were trying to keep our hopes up but not get too excited until that 12 week mark. I was only 5 and a half weeks at a time and had just came back from the doctor for the proof of pregnancy blood work. They were (or at least seemed) super excited for me, hugged me, and even prayed for me and the health of the baby. People will suprise you.
I'm going from teaching non mobile non verbal only class to teaching mixed class of verbal, non verbal, mobile, non mobile. At my last school if we missed, we didn't have a sub. It was up to my assistant to teach my class of six. Needless to say in three years i missed 2 days and that was when i had my MC. This time I will have an assistant and subs so I'm not sure what to do with myself. I'm not used to letting go of classroom control and being able to count on other people.
Another school psychologist here (middle school)! I've been off for a week now. I'm also very grateful my first trimester will occur over the summer and I should feel better once school gets in this August. If I could just keep up with my 13 month old on these fatigued afternoons. . .
I teach 4th grade! We've been done since June 5 and don't go back til September 2. So nice being home during this first trimester and feeling yucky most of the time!

Any tips about sub plans from others teachers?

I am also loving this timing. Just hope I can afford to take the rest of the year off after having the little one!
