FOOOOOD

Since some of us probably can't stop eating, and also some only like certain things, and we all have crazy food constraints.

I thought it would be fun if people could share what they have been eating these days in an attempt to help each other come up with some new ideas for recipes/things to try.

For breakfast I've been having scrambled eggs with toast and a chocolate instant carnation breakfast made with lactose free milk.

For lunch I've been having roasted potatoes with chicken and cottage cheese

For dinner I've been having chicken mostly (sometimes steak, ground beef) with either pasta or rice and small salad.

Snacks have been yogurt, fruit, crackers when I feel like death, and nuts.

I'm a former lightweight rower so the amount of carbs I've been eating is a little ridic but it helps me feel better and my desire for veggies has decreased significantly in the past 2 weeks and I feel has become a problem for me. Especially since I love veggies and I haven't really been able to work out as I was getting cramps right after a light workout

Re: FOOOOOD

  • I've been craving straight junk so I've been trying to cut back.  I'm also unable to work out which has really got me chowing down.

I recently found a good recipe for homemade oat bars that has given me that kick of protein the late afternoon before my nausea sets in.

    1 cup peanut butter
    1/2 cup honey
    3 cups of oats

you basically melt the PB and honey together, throw in the oats and mix, flatten into a brownie pan and stick it in the fridge.  I'm kind of obsessed and i've cut back on pop tarts ( i know, no nutritional value but damn they are good!)

  • I wish I could eat :(
  • I'm not feeling any sort of meat and I'm thirsty all the time, so I'm eating a ton of fruit. Also, peanut butter, veggies and eggs.

Loaded baked potatoes with a little cheese, Greek yogurt, salsa, and sautéed veggies has been my go-to for awhile.
  • Those protein bars sound lovely!!
  • Everyone keeps mentioning peanut butter. I have been craving peanut butter so bad! Unfortunately my husband is severly allergic to peanuts and I can't risk even having it in the house.
  • I think yesterday was the first day I had a healthy snack of grapes, cheese, and some wheathins. Last nights dinner, same thing, first healthy dinner, herbed lemon salmon, asparagus, and 1/2 a herbed red potato. Today, raisin bran for breakfast....I was bad for lunch, mc-chicken at McDonald's, and as far as peanut butter, umm... Finished off mini Reese's cups, and have peanut butter m&ms in the fridge. But I just take a few at a time .... So that makes it ok...ugggg.... Not! Hopefully I'm going to be feeling better enough to incorporate more healthy meals...

  • Love this thread! After realizing this morning I have already gained 5lbs (8 weeks tomorrow), I have been trying to be more aware of HOW to war in pregnancy. I need to eat every 1-2 hours small meal or snack or I get this painful nauseous hunger.

Morning have been fried egg and gluten free bread for toast, but am going to try breakfast burritos tomorrow :). This morning it's peanut butter toast (my go to lately!) and fruit. Lunch was egg salad with watermelon and carrots.

Love this list of go to snacks and am going to incorporate most of the since I'm mobile a lot

  • I forgot to mention that I've been having a whole wheat eggo with some almond butter right before I go to bed. I'm usually starving again my bed time and since I take my pre natal at night it helps minimize my nausea in the morning.
  • I'm 11w and early on I couldn't get enough of trail mix. These days I'm craving peanut butter, carbs, carbs and more carbs, which is soooo unlike me. I've been doing a decent job of not giving in, usually opting for salads, fruit, cottage cheese, yogurt.
  • I really want crunchy things. Ive made so many roasted brussel sprouts and garbanzo beans. Oh and wasabi peas. Mmmmmmmm.

  • If and when I can eat, sour lemon sorbet is fantastic. I bought a bunch of fresh fruits and veggies, and then proceeded to throw up an apple, so I'm going for sour kefir, sour Greek yogurt, and more lemon.
  • Love this! I'm 8 weeks today. I've been throwing up every morning at ~4-5am. So I eat ginger snap cookies.

    Breakfast :
Fruit : helps soothe the nausea especially peach! I usually have 2 pieces of fruit : apple, peach, or banana.

Then 1-2 hrs later I eat a protein bar during work

Lunch : something chicken usually a sandwich

Another snack : protein bar or carrots or fruit

Dinner: varies - last week it was homemade Korean food : rice, vegetables, marinated beef. Now it's mostly take out or we go out because I get nauseous when I cook.
  • I'm eating a ton of yoghurt, fruit and cheese (despite the extra constipation). Also, salmon once a week and eggs a few times. Cream of tomato soup is my lunch staple. Porridge oats for breakfast most days. Most other foods smell and taste awful to me right now.

  • I don't want anything healthy. Which sucks, because I'm usually a very healthy eater. All I want is Chinese food and carbs. Luckily I haven't gained any weight, but I think that's because I can't really eat during the day. Dinner is a different story. I pig out.
Because I'm not wanting veggies, I make a green smoothie in the morning so I can get something healthy in my belly. I actually look forward to it. I PACK it with:
    Spinach
    Kale
    Cucumbers
    Mixed berries
    Unsweetened coconut
    Plain Greek yogurt
    Ice
    Water
It's pretty much the only healthy thing I can stomach. 2nd trimester can't come soon enough!!
  • My one craving that grossed out my husband was I wanted Wendy's Spicy Chicken nuggets dipped in a vanilla Frosty. The look of horror he gave me as I was eating it made me feel bad but I couldn't stop eat it. Other than that I've mostly been craving healthy foods like avocados and bananas. I work an off shift so planning my meals has been really hard since I hit week 8 in my pregnancy I've had food aversions and morning sickness at odd hours of the day. Even smells can get to me as my coworkers got Pizza Hut the other day and it sent me sprinting to the bathroom and not wanting the dinner I packed.

Breakfast - is usually my daily serving of cranberry juice (doctor ordered). A breakfast bar since this is the only thing that can settle my stomach. If I feel fine then I add a serving of yogurt and a banana with some orange juice.

Lunch - since I work an off shift this is usually my dinner so its some type of salmon (about once a week) or grilled chicken with a salad or veggie with some type of beans for extra protein. If I'm running errands before work and I have to dine out I try to pick a restaurant where I can get a side salad and a bottle of water with my meal instead of french fries and a soda.

Afternoon snack: Since I'm at work I try to pack a snack that I can eat when the afternoon hunger hits - either an apple with some peanut butter, cheese and crackers, popcorn or some type of fruit.

Dinner - I'm always at work during dinner time so usually I'll either pack what every I had for lunch or a salad with some yogurt. A lot of the time my work will host carry in dinners for us that are not always the healthiest (I mentioned Pizza Hut) so I try to pick and choose a healthy option.

Night time snack: If I've skipped dinner because I'm sick to my stomach I try to eat something low calorie when I get home like some fruit or yogurt, or even some crackers with a tablespoon of peanut butter works for me so I'm not going to bed hungry and waking up feeling like I need to eat the kitchen empty. However, there have been times I've craved some grilled chicken or a frozen burrito nuked with a little bit of cheese and avocado.
  • I read that it's not good to eat to much peanut butter tho because in some cases it has caused the child to be allergic to it. but they do have the peanut butter snack that u can eat with crackers. you can just stick it in your bag.
  • I have honestly just been wanting everything!
Although I am limiting what I eat I haven't gotten nausea with any food or even at all!

I have been snacking on raisins, fruits, crackers and cheese.

For dinner I usually eat what ever I cook.
Rice, beans , scrambled eggs, fried sausage, potatoes, steak, pork, chicken, salmon
    what ever really.
    :D

    7 weeks & 4 days

  • So far I can eat pretty much anything except meat.  I made carnitas a couple days ago and just the smell was too much for me.  I'm ok with chicken, but definitely no beef or pork.  Blegh.

Those protein bars sound amazing! I'm going to make them today.

Almond butter toast has been my morning go to since I got pregnant. I didn't even eat bread before I got pregnant but it seems to be one of the only things to settle my nausea. And the only craving I've had is for chopped salads. Thankful to be craving something healthy this pregnancy.

Sheesh I am with you women who are craving junk, I barely have the energy to cook at night! However, I have been craving fruit like CRAZY! Meat has not been appetizing and neither have hot beverages, the smell of eggs makes me want to throw up on myself. This is the pickiest I have ever been! Can't wait for trimester #2! Hang in their sisters!
  • Fruit smoothies, Mac and cheese, PB&J sandwich and cheese sticks. That's what I want the most! I usually love veggies, but I'm having a hard time choking them down. I keep hiding kale in my fruit smoothies and keeping my fingers crossed for healthier cravings in my second trimester.
  • I've been needing to eat small meals or snacks every 2 hours to keep the nausea at bay.
Lately, bagels with butter have been my go-to breakfast. I usually have a cheese stick as a snack, some boom-chicka-Pop popcorn, sometimes a yogurt or fruit, sometimes chips or something chocolatey.
For lunch I have a frozen dinner because it's the easiest thing to grab on the way out the door to the office. Occasionally I'll do a toasted subway sandwich that I'll also microwave to make sure the meat is steaming.
For dinner, usually chicken or hamburgers or tacos or something with a side of veggies (which I'm finding hard to stomach these days) and maybe some rice.
  • I read that it's not good to eat to much peanut butter tho because in some cases it has caused the child to be allergic to it. but they do have the peanut butter snack that u can eat with crackers. you can just stick it in your bag.

That's funny. I actually heard the opposite, that exposing them in uterine can help reduce their risks of developing a peanut allergy. It's funny how many differing thoughts there are on it. I have a toddler at home and I remember doing all the reading when he was turning 1 and we were getting ready to introduce him to PB. There are schools of thought that say that waiting until a year to introduce it has actually worsened the epidemic and that it should be an early-introduced food there are schools of thought that say waiting until a year is the best way to safely introduce peanuts.

It's hard to know what to believe.
  • I have a severe aversion to meat and eggs. I used to eat a diet high in veggies and protein, but now I crave carbs ALL DAY LONG. Fruit and toast are my go to food. I also eat or juice about 3-4 lemons a day. I crave ice constantly! I am trying to incorporate nuts and beans due to my lack of protein. Surprisingly I haven't gained weight, but bread makes me have a pretty noticeable blump!

Potatoes. All of the potatoes in all of the things. It's all I can keep down when I'm feeling sick.

  • I have been eating mostly grilled cheese and tomato soup, cinnamon toast, fruit, peanut butter and other carbs. Meat sounds absolutely horrible and even thinking about it makes me gag. I used to love eggs for breakfast, but those sound disgusting now :(

Now I want a grilled cheese and tomato soup real bad!
  • It's been my go to lunch for a couple weeks now!
  • Breakfast: Scrambled eggs with a little turkey bacon sprinkled in, a piece of toast with a little smart balance (this is as carb light as I can get for breakfast)

snack: apples and some nuts if I can stomach them

Lunch: bunless turkey burger with avocado, tomato, and lots of pickles (the pickles are key)

    snack: frozen strawberries

dinner: Boca chick'n meatless patty with veggies

random food eaten when nausea is terrible: crackers, lemons, popsicles, popcorn, baked lays

  • I've been craving fresh fruit, pumpkin seeds, and fast food fries. Oh, and potato skins with lots of malt vinegar and sour cream.
Today we are having Mr. Hero for dinner and it cannot come soon enough... The other Ohio ladies know about Mr. H, I'm sure!
  • I have been turned off to chicken, pork, and some beef so I have been eating the following:

Breakfast: piece of cinnamon raisin toat, English muffin with peanut butter, and watermelon

Lunch: either out for fast food or grilled cheese and tomato soup or eggs and toast

    Dinner: pizza, pasta, carbs,carbs carbs.

  • I cant eat anything. I would kill for a steak and Pepsi but I know that I will be vomitting in 5 minutes. The only thing I can keep down is crackers.
  • I've been eating like crazy now that I have my nausea under control. I have still been losing weight so I dunno. I eat something just about every 2-2 1/2 hours by im starved. I usually don't eat a lot when I do eat so that is probably why. I've been craving a lot of carbs especially for dinner.

Usually for breakfast I will have toast or eggs and bacon with a smoothie sometimes.

For lunch I usually have Mac and cheese or left overs from dinner the night before.

Dinner it's usually a protein with some kind of roasted veggies and either rice, pasta, or a potatoe.

I snack between meals on fruits. Watermelon is my favorite these days.

I'm just hungry all the time now that I'm not throwing up all day long. I'm still having problems drinking enough water. I'm working on that.
  • I'm all about Greek salad right now ! I dunno why but that has definitely been my go to! And lots of fruit and yogourt !
  • Vanilla wafers with cream cheese cake icing sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.. Perfection!

I am so happy that I am not the only one avoiding meat. It happened really early for me and I can't even cook it for my husband. I've been carb crazy as it's the only thing that helps the nausea. I'm not having many cravings, just trying to find the few things that don't make me sick. My worst cravings are fruit smoothies. I eat a salad every day, but my other food has been terribly unhealthy. I haven't gained any weight yet, just waiting til second tri.
  • I can't stop eating ... I have gained 16 pounds and I am only 10w4d ... I am hoping to get back on a work out routine in the second trimester.  I just haven't been motivated to do anything

I'm having a hard time eating many things...I just often feel like I am going to be sick and sometimes just looking at and smelling certain foods (that in the past I have liked) is an unpleasant experience.

I can eat potatoes (plain with just butter), biscuits, rice, oatmeal, muffins, and most fruits. I can usually eat plain chicken and chicken noodle soup as well.  I can't eat large quantities in anything and although I am 11 weeks yesterday I have yet to gain a pound (but a bump is starting to look noticeable).  I'm hoping this queasiness and such goes away real soon!
