Trying to Get Pregnant

implantation bleeding?

Hello all!!
I was just wondering if something I experienced might be implantation bleeding... 2 days ago, mid morning I woke up kinda yellingng/crying out with really terrible cramps. The pain/yell woke me and my husband right up. It lasted for a few minutes and I got a heating pad. Then it happened again a couple(?) hours later... I thought my period must be coming but then nothing. So the day after (yesterday) I found a single tiny dark brown streak of blood... That was all. And I haven't bled since... I don't know about timing, my period have never been regular. Sometimes it will be 2weeks apart and sometimes 5months. So I was just wondering if this sounds like implantation bleeding or if you've ever experienced something like this??

Thanks! :)

  • sigh....

IB (implantation bleeding) is very rare. Some studies show that is happens less than 20% of pregnancies. Other studies show that is more like 5%.

It can be only noted in hindsight. Like after a positive pregnancy test. There is many reasons for mid-cycle spotting, and we have no way to know what was the reason for your spotting.   However with the horrible sharp pain, it could be a ruptures cyst on your ovary. More women say that implantation cramps, are 'cramps', or a 'dull, achey pain'.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • OP, for realsies, no one can answer this question. Implantation bleeding is extremely rare and you can only confirm that's what it was in hindsight. Random mid cycle spotting happens. Try lurking around through old posts and you will see this has been answered many, many times.

  • Yes, I experienced something like this last week. It was my period. Don't symptom spot, you'll drive yourself insane. Wait for a missed period, and then test. It's the only way to know for certain.
  • Spotting like that can happen for any reason but least likely because of IB. Could have been from sex or exercise, or AF on the way. We cant tell you that though, you will just have to wait it out.

  • Crying out in pain sounds more severe than normal cramps from ovulation/implantation/period, etc. I've heard people describe an ovarian cyst rupturing and hurting like that.

    Could it be bladder/uti/digestive issues?

As others said, if you're pregnant you'll turn a test positive. It sounds like you are not.
  • wow.
thanks you all for really insightful, nice, respectful answers. i did not ask anyone to tell me if it was for sure IB. in fact i only wanted to know if someone else had a similar experience. im not stupid, im very aware that the only real way to know is a positive test. but since ive never had children, or even been pregnant. and have crazy stupid cycles i can never be sure what is what. i was just looking for some friendly advice. you did very well in proving that you cant provide that.
i know my own body so, i know it wasnt my period  + i bleed for at least 3weeks when i have a period.
the only thing i learned here is that there are some really cruel women. thank you for showing me how positive and caring for others you all seem to be.
  • yes i know. its been like this since i was a kid and i started my periods.
i can only do 2 things to stop it. 1 is birth control (and that doesnt always help) and 2 is have a hystrectomy

We are not trying to be cruel. If you are seriously ttc, there is a ton of great info on this site to help you get Ku, ie temping, reading materials, chart stalks etc. However we get asked this question MULTIPLE times a day. It gets very frustrating women coming in and posting a thread about a topic that was just answered in a previous thread. If people would look on even one or two other threads they would learn some dos and donts of this community. Op look around and you may come to realize how much info is here for the taking if people would just look :)
  • ive been checked out many times. over and over and over. considering i have periods that lasted for 56days. i most likely have endometriosis, (it runs in my family) but they have to cut you open for that to be diagnosed. i know i do have ovarian cysts, i even had one pop during sex a couple different times. it was horrifying and i cried a lot. i asked about this because i was dead asleep when it happened. and ive never popped one outside of sex.. fact of all of it is, i know my body, but i dont know what happens when you get pregnant. so i was looking to ask someone who has experienced it.
  • Take a test. If it's negative you are not pregnant.

It sounds like you need to find a new doctor that will take your health concerns a bit more seriously. It is not good that you are bleeding for three weeks straight and that these cysts are "popping" and causing you what sounds like an extreme amount of discomfort. You may need to stop TTC to get this under control. I would also urge you to find a new doctor and have your iron levels tested if you haven't already. If your bleeding that long you're likely very low on iron or possibly anemic at that rate.
If you are curious about it being implantation bleeding I would take a test in 2-3 days. That is the only way you will know for sure if it is IB. Also, please use the search function on this site. You are receiving these comments because we get asked this question AT LEAST once per week if not more. Search "Implantation Bleeding" and you will see the answers to your questions.

No one is trying to be cruel.  Questions like this are asked literally every single day, and actually phrased very similarly.  "I only wanted to know if someone else had a similar experience."  It's actually almost strange--almost everyone says that.

  • I see what all you ladies mean now....at first I just looked at these threads to laugh at all your hilarious comments...but it is draining to say THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AND OVER!!

TAKE A DAMN TEST WOMAN...NEGATIVE=NOT PREGNANT POSITIVE=PREGNANT....It really is that simple.
AND they even have them at the dollar store...YEP $1!!

  • I know some of the responses seem a little mean, but the general attitude about this has actually helped me.

It can drive you crazy to wonder whether every weird thing that happens is a sign of pregnancy.  For those of us wanting so hard to get pregnant, if we let ourselves think about things this way, we will spiral into way, way more stress than we need to be experiencing.

So when I wonder whether a cramp is an implantation cramp, it helps me to think of all the sarcasm I'd face if I asked about it here.  I don't need to be focusing on that.

For the most part, if you experience a symptom of pregnancy, you have enough of the hormone to test positive.  When it comes to implantation, then okay, that happens a few days before a BFP, but there's no way to know other than to wait and see.

    No way to know.

    None.

Let it go, and the next few days will be a lot easier.  Stop making yourself crazy.  Wait a few days, then pee on a stick.

Also, OP, as I learned in hindsight (after asking your same question), it's just not right to into a board and ask women who aren't pregnant what it feels like to get/be pregnant. Yes many have kids already, but many also have been trying for a long time for just one child. Lurk, lurk, and lurk some more!

Agree with PP that you need to get a second opinion in you're 3 wk periods.

It's laparoscopic. The cutting is minor at best.
  • I agree about seeing a different professional about your cycles.  Abnormal bleeding like that are significant medical red flags.

My sister started having abnormal cycles like you, so after 10ish months, I finally convinced her to go to my OB. My OB was shocked and worried. He orded a bunch of test, and U/S, his major concern was cancer.  He said that long period could be a sign of abnormal hormones (especially estrogen), and that is a major sign of cancer. He said that she not have waited that long at all.

Thank God her diagnosis was PCOS, which is what I have. However, my mom and grandmother both had uterine cancer, so we are already at an increase risk anyway.

    Thank God for Raid.

No... That's not how that works in order to be diagnosed with endometriosis. For medical management, yeah.

I second (and third) responses that you need to find a doctor to take this seriously.

And also that implantation bleeding is rare, don't symptom spot and take care of your body.

  • If it IS implantation bleeding, take a test in 1 week and it will be positive. If it's negative then it's just your irregular cycle. My periods are ridiculously irregular so i can sympathize with the symptom spotting because unlike alot of the ladies on here commenting and making fun, you kinda learn to listen to your body for ques more so than the woman with a regular cycle. Before i went on BC years ago, i would have dark blood, spotting and horrible cramps - the Dr. said it was because my endomitrial lining was getting too thick and it was just old blood. :(

  • Actually I did lurk and saw alot of really nasty, unsupportive users. Most of them seem to have been banned, and since I love the site I'll stick around because some ladies offered amazing insight and advice. When you spend your entire adolescence being taught that just being in the same room with a boy will get you pregnant, and your youth trying NOT to get pregnant, when you actually do want a baby you're like "ok, how does this work?". And how exactly are those of us that are new to the board, or just started the journey to parenthood contribute, exactly? It seems like unless you had an IVF or IUI you're not taken seriously. Even though this our first month actively trying we have been "seeing what will happen" for over a year so yes, I can sympathize with the original poster's confusion.

Hiya! I'm on CD127. Does that mean I'm qualified to give advice? Because I still say no implantation bleeding and she should go see a doctor.
Well, according to what I wrote I basically said if it is implantation bleeding the test will be positive - which is true, and that for ME it turned out to be other issues and I saw a DR. i never encouraged her thinking that it was implantation.
