we have chosen our girl name; Scout Iris Elizabeth F-last name, and while we love the boy name we picked; Fox Orion James F-last name, we are unsure of it with having the same first letter of first and last name.
Thoughts?
Are we over thinking this?
Thanks!

That being said, my dad really wanted to name me Scout. I am so so so grateful my mom vetoed it. Think about how your child might view their name one day.
Of course we hope she wouldn't have to resort to that because we see nothing wrong with the name.
Not sure a 45 year old woman is going to appreciate her name of Scout. Iris is much lovelier. Fox Orion sounds like you're just trying to hard.

I know someone who vetoed the name Sadie for that reason. ???
Trying too hard to what? Be a name?
ETA I like Sadie. My ILs named their dog Sadie though so not an option for us.

Just to be clear Fox is the first name and Orion and James are middle names. Orion was chosen because of my DH's love of astronomy. James because it was my father's middle name and his father's as well. But James doesn't seem to be an issue for anyone
And yeah I love the name Sadie! And it's actually DH's grandmother's name so it was a contender for us for a bit
A lot of people told you it was too much. You know the advice of taking one piece of jewelry off before leaving the house? If you're set on a "cool" name, you should put it in the middle or use a traditional middle name to balance it out.
Are Iris and Elizabeth not traditional to you?

Thanks for letting everyone know what the rules are for choosing a name.
If you come here to ask for opinions on a name, you are opening that name to be judged by the "rules" people have for their own self & the baby naming process.

Umm yeah. Thanks for clarifying that. Really helpful.
Fairly certain I'm making perfect sense? My name rules? I don't want anything on the top 100 list. Person 2 name rules: Nothing frilly for a girl. Person 3 name rules: Only comic book character names.
Each person has a set of rules that they govern by. There is not a universal list of name rules, just billions of people specific rules. So by asking the opinions of others, their personal rules will influence the outcome of advice you receive.
Clearer?

I posted this so I knew that some opinions would be different from my own. And that's okay! I welcome hearing other options and suggestions.
Thanks to the people who answered my title question. It seems like we are over thinking the same letter thing. Our last name is Mennonite and would work fine with Fox. No rhyming and not even the same amount of syllables
So thanks!

Also, I'm sure this won't be a popular opinion, but wth this thread already went bonkers and I wasn't even here for the fun, so here goes:
To Kill a Mocking Bird is a great book. It's a classic. But whenever I hear someone say it's their favorite, and their kids are Atticus, Harper, Scout, and the dog's name is Finch, I definitely don't think "Oh, so you're a literature lover!" I think "Oh, so you haven't read anything since high school." :-S
OP, that's not necessarily directed at you- I have no idea if you're a bibliophile. But I would tend to agree with the advice that you should consider naming your daughter a full given name (Jean? Louise?) and use Scout as a special nn.
Cadence and balance rules still apply of course.
I hate to say it, but a resume with the name Raistlynne gracing the top is not going to get even a fraction of the consideration that others will get. Because it is assumed that idiots raise idiots and Raistlynne is an idiotic name and a white trash name.
That's a rule.
It doesn't matter how you FEEL about it. It doesn't matter if it's "not fair". That is human nature. Shallow, vain people are nowhere near as exclusive as the intellectually elite and they don't have time to entertain the liability of a kid with parents dumb enough to choose a name that reads like a hostage situation of the English language.
