Doctor every 2 weeks?

So I had my monthly appointment today. Everything is normal, good blood pressure, good measurements, we heard babies heart rate fine. Only minor issue is that I'm monitoring my blood sugar (not gestational diabetes, doctor is concerned about me being pre-diabetic) but I've been monitoring since around 10 or 12 weeks. He said there was traces of sugar in my urine which he attributed to eating a sugary breakfast but did not seem concerned about it. He just told me to watch my carb and sugar intake and continue to monitor like I have been. I'm now 25 weeks and the doctor said we will now be going in every 2 weeks until the end of the pregnancy. A friend of mine who is also pregnant did not start going every 2 weeks until she was like 31 or 32 weeks. He didn't lead me to beleive that we were doing that because there was anything to be concerned about or because anything needed to be monitored more closely so my question is..

Is anyone else now to the point of biweekly appointments?

Re: Doctor every 2 weeks?

  • I'm 23 weeks now (will be 24 weeks on sunday) and after my next appt in 3 weeks I'll be going every 2 weeks. At my office that's normal going every 2 weeks

  • Once u hit or are that close to your third trimester. (Sorry idk why it cut thay part off)
  • After my next appointment which I guess is 28 weeks I have to go every 2 weeks. Annoying, but safer for you and baby. I wouldn't worry and if you are curious about stuff just start asking the question when they book. You have to be your own advocate when it comes to doctors sometimes.

Hmmm not sure when I go biweekly. I do know that once you hit 36 weeks you go weekly.

  • I'm 25 weeks and I'm going every 2 weeks now for extra monitoring for a couple things.
  • I'm already weekly at 23 weeks but that's because of my blood pressure :-/ it's annoying but whatever is best for baby!
  • Every practice is different with when they want you to start coming more often.  My OB was starting in third trimester.  Midwives are a little later.

I have been going every 2 weeks since day one with this pregnancy. I am type 1 diabetic so they want to keep a close eye on wee one.
  • I think I start going every 2 weeks sometime between 26 and 30 weeks. I can't remember.. but I know I have no more than 1 appointment with 4 weeks between after i go on Thursday. Then at 36 I will go weekly.

After my 28-week appointment I'll go every 2 weeks.
  • I really didn't think anything of it until my friend mentioned how much earlier it is for me then it was for her. Sounds like it's different for a lot of offices though. Thanks, guys! :)

  • Im 24 weeks today my midwife said i would be going every 2 weeks starting the 28th week
  • Not yet at 23 weeks but will soon because AMA
  • I will be 30 weeks 5 days when I start biweekly appointments. I have 2 more 4 week appointments (June 3rd and July 1st). My first biweekly appointment will be July 15.

Starting at my 28 week appt. I will be on an every 2 week schedule until 36 weeks, which then becomes weekly.
  • Starts at my 28 week and then weekly at 36.
  • I think this might be one of those stylistic doctor differences. A friend of mine started biweekly appts at 25 weeks with no medical history or need.

I don't know when my doc starts biweekly's but I know she keeps referring to me as "early on" in the pregnancy.
  • I just asked mine today since he's monitoring blood pressure if every two weeks meant I am higher risk or need to be worried. He said absolutely not. And gave a couple scenarios that would be worth a call or worry. I'd say if you are concerned, just ask your Dr. Mine is fabulous.
Also his nurses asked me how I was as I don't call in between visits enough haha! So I totally feel better now
  • My doctor offered me the option of going every two weeks at my 24ish week visit just because there's been a lot of frustratingly inconsistent support on the mental health side of my care. It was nice to know that she was willing to give the gaps left by others and I've seen her more consistently but I don't think I'll take her up fully on the offer. That's an awful lot of doctor appointments after all...
  • @theglitteredpterodactyl even just having the option is great! Just knowing if you need it can be comforting, especially when a lot of people are okay with letting that side of care fall to the side.

I'm 25 weeks and going every two weeks and then after 35 weeks I go every week... There is nothing special for the dr to measure, that is just how they do it in their office I guess ...

Have I mentioned that I love my doctor? Because I love my doctor. She's honestly been great. She's a general family doctor, nor an ob, and she's just rocked this whole time. I switched insurance right before getting knocked up so I started seeing her when I was pregnant and I am (her direct quotes) "a pretty scary patient on paper" but she been great and we get along fabulously. I have a new psychiatrist and therapist as well because of new insurance and they both quit the organisation and moved out of state after my first appointments with them (was it sing3ing i said?! lol o.o) so my main doctor has been amazing at filling all the gaps

ETA whoah sorry for the hijack thread. I blame baby hormones
  • After my next appointment at 28 weeks, I will be going every 2 - 3 weeks. I'm not sure which but that's all my doctor said, haha.

Totally normal, as they just want to monitor the baby more closely now.

    I don't mind - my doctor is only 10 minutes away :)
  • I had an appointment this morning at 23 weeks, and after my next appointment, they switch to biweekly, so I'll be 27 weeks when that starts. It's crazy that this pregnancy has gone by so fast! Hang in there @shelbydd I think it's just that time!
  • It may be just as an extra precaution to get you there to check your urine more often. I have high blood pressure that they are trying to regulate with meds but they have me coming in every 2 weeks (I'm currently 24 wks) to check for proteins in my urine which could indicate preeclampsia.

    Good Luck!!!!
  • I'm 26 weeks right now. Next Friday is my next appointment and I'll be 27 weeks. The doc told me that after that appointment she'll be booking me every 2 weeks.
  • Interested to see! I've got my 26 week appointment tomorrow so I'm not sure if they will schedule my next for 28 weeks or 30.
  • I will be going bi-weekly starting next week at 26 weeks, then weekly starting at 36 weeks.

My last appointment was at 20 weeks and I'm not scheduled to go back until 27 weeks, which I thought was a long time. Not sure if they will start me every two weeks after that though. I kind of like going just because I get to hear the heartbeat! So I won't mind once I start going every two weeks, other than the 45 minute drive to the office.
  • My next appointment with my regular doctor is in 3 weeks at that point I'll be 28 weeks. She told me after this appointment I will start bi weekly appointments. I also see a high risk doctor and those appointments are monthly until 28 weeks. After 28 weeks I'll see them bi weekly as well. So I'll be getting lots of monitoring coming up!
  • Hmmm... I'm pretty sure my doctor told me I start bi weekly appointments after my 32 week appointment... But now that I see everyone is starting bi weekly appointments at around 28 weeks, I'll definitely be asking again at my next appointment lol.
  • I am 25 weeks and 5 days now.. I go on June 9th for my Glucose test then after that (so about 27 weeks) I will "Graduate" as they call it to bi-weekly appointments. It is very normal even when they aren't monitoring things...
  • I'm going in tomorrow for my 26 week appointment and from now on I'll be going every 2 weeks. I think it just depends on your doctors preference.

I went to my 26 week appointment yesterday and was told we will now be going every 2 weeks. I've had no complications so far. Doc said it was protocol.
  • I have to start going once a week starting at 24 weeks which is next week with an ultrasound each time bc baby is measuring small
  • My doc said visits will be every two weeks after my next, 28, week appointment.
  • I've actually been going every 2 to 3 weeks since my very first visit with my doctor because I started with enough health issues whose management required Class B and Class C drugs, and we want to be extra careful that baby is developing normally despite them (all signs point to a healthy baby so far, though). I have asthma, nasal polyps, and some major medicine allergies.

The month I had my sinus surgery I saw her weekly....pre-Op, post-Op, and just in case.

I actually did a happy dance when she gave me a month off! LOL......not that I don't like her, I LOVE my OB, but it's nice to be healthy enough to not see her.

I actually didn't mind seeing her so much. It was a great peace of mind thing. The second I had an issue, I could tell her....instead of waiting a month.
