Ok I'm way past Friday too, but all cat owners out there, y'all still kiss your cat right? Today I scooped mine up and was loving on him and he was patting my face with his paws (he always does this), and I started to freak that maybe this was not okay. I've been avoiding his litter but that's it. He still sleeps with us and everything. I think I've hit the nesting stage and am suddenly worried about everything being clean.

ETA: I feel so dumb for even asking this so flame away! Lol

My cats sleep on my pillow every night....
  • Ok that clears it up a bit thanks!

    @ElRuby thank you! Lol.
  • So I still feel like no one answered my question! Pout. Why would it be bad after a c-section specifically, @SammeMotley? And what exactly are you anticipating, @ElRuby? Telllll meeee! Lift this final veil of secrecy. Is it like @aliciaspinnet guesses and it's just swollen?
  • @amccoy129 I still snuggle my kitties and one of my cats will sometimes stick his paw in my face when I am sleeping - I wake up to his paw pads on my cheek or lips. Its not the best way to wake up, but it happens

I think that for a c section, because you're having abdominal surgery 1) the bowels can be somewhat stunned and slow down, 2) certain pain medications (specifically opiates) can constipate you and 3) your abdominal muscles will be sore post surgery so you won't want to strain on the toilet.
@Frogger5 this pretty much sums it up for a csection Mom...constipation!

I would think that with a vaginal delivery that it would be torn/swollen down there???? I haven't had a vaginal birth.

So I just googled it, and apparently Engaged is not the same as Dropping.  So I take back my posts that laughed at my mother for saying I hadn't dropped, even though Dr. told me baby is engaged.  And may I just add that I am SO grateful there is still time to get this kid out of my ribs for a bit before birth!

(In other words, my FFQ was "Is dropping the same as engaging?" but Dr. Google answered for me.  Sharing in case I wasn't the only one dumb enough not to know.)

Since now I know I haven't dropped... does this mean I won't go into labor for a while? I kid, I kid!!

Thanks for sharing @amark11! I totally thought they were the same thing too!

I have this great book that goes into great detail about what a csection involves. It's called The Essential C Section Guide by Maureen Conolly. I'm most likely going in for my second csection and I found it really helpful
  • Ugh, so it sounds like we are moving when LO is 2 months old... again at 6-7 months old... and again at 11 months old.  Each time to a different country.  (I am not thrilled with my employer right now.)  I have a moses basket for that first segment, but am not sure what to do for when s/he is 3-11 months old.  Pack n Play, to move with us and create familiarity?  Find something local each time?

I can't tell if a Pack n Play is appropriate for the full 3-11 month period.  Any STM+ have advice?

As I said earlier this week, I am annoying MYSELF with these anxieties, so hopefully I am not annoying you all too much... arrggghh... I am longing for some stability right about now.... no one wants to hire a 9 month old prego though, I've asked!

@lindsladle15 Thank you!  And do you know if it can be used for the full period from 3-11 months?  Is the bassinet top needed for that period, or not at all?  I have looked at the Amazon specifications and reviews, but it's not so clear to me.  I think the bassinet is for up to 15 lbs, which would probably not be good at the 3 month mark.  In which case, I would just buy the basic version.  I think it says it can be used up to 40 lbs, which would probably be fine for up to month 11.
  • @fridaysdance - thank you!! Ok, I will breathe again.

FTM but I would only use the bassinet top until baby starts rolling around. We have a pack-n-play with a bassinet insert that we'll be using at first, and the bassinet places her really close to the top of the pack-n-play. As long as she's stationary I'm comfortable with it but once she gets big enough to roll around, sit, possibly pull herself up on things, IF she's still sleeping in the pack-n-play (which she probably won't be), we'll be taking the bassinet insert out so she doesn't somehow fall out!

Oh ya...you can use those things forever! Haha. We used ours right from birth in our room with DD, until about 6 weeks when she moved in her crib, but at 11 months old, she sometimes still naps in it and my mom has one at her house that she sleeps in when we visit.
When she was tiny, we just had the whole base raised to the top level, and now obviously it's all the way down. We have the bassinet insert thing, but never used it. May try it out this time :)
  • Also, @amark11, I was a little confused, but I hope you don't think you would need to buy another pack 'n play once LO grows out of the pnp bassinet insert. Most pnp's come with that these days, and if not, you can still use a regular one without the bassinet part.
  • Thanks so much - really appreciate your help and patience.  I am just trying to figure out whether I need the model with the bassinet insert, or whether at the age of 2 months, it will already be too late to use that insert.  I will definitely be ordering the PnP for when LO is 2+ months, but I won't be using the PnP before then.  The moses basket that I will use from 0-2 months will have to stay in Germany.

I think I will just buy the model that has the insert, since it can be removed if not useful.
  • @amark11 I used our play n pack until the boys were 3 years old when we were on vacation. I would actually skip the insert if it's extra money. We only used it for the first month. And it's not too much extra trouble to bend an extra couple of feet.
  • OK, now I have a question. So I am putting away baby laundry (mattress protectors, sheets, onesies, etc) and had a thought... Wearing a onesie won't irritate the cord stump, will it? Cause I know you don't want to have the diaper cover it. But wouldn't the cloth of the onesie constantly being against it irritate it? Or not help it to dry and fall off? Should I have baby just wear a diaper for the first while (as long as we are inside and the temperature is appropriate)?

Thanks! And button front shirts like men's dress / work shirts but for babies? I have not seen anything like this! (I haven't done much clothes shopping) Cute!

  • ^they sell them anywhere baby items are sold.. Usually in white in the newborn "essentials" section, also this is what the hospital will have for them to wear.. They come in long sleeve or short
  • I guess technically they are side-snap
  • Thanks @HayesRN13! I have been planning to roll by target and snoop around their baby section but I'm waiting for hubs to get paid first. I'll be sure to pick up a pack or two.

Oops lol, anyone getting their tubes tied after they have their babies? I'm thinking about it now that I'm getting a c section

I am, if I make it to my planned c section. You may need to talk to your Dr and sign some paperwork. I had to make sure my paperwork was signed before 36 weeks.

@laurendutch the Dr I saw today that's doing my section told me I can think about it and tell him the day of the section, that's when I sign all my papers, just want to do some research first, will it take longer to recover? Or about the same time, I will be talking to my family Dr about it next week

I don't think recovery will take any longer. The hardest part of recovery from a csection is getting your muscles cut into. My Dr tolde that it only takes 5 minutes longer to get them tied.
  • ^ correct...

I'm so glad you brought this up, I hadn't thought about it at all and none of my mommy friends have mentioned it to me. I kept seeing kimono style tops in baby layettes and wondered why, now it makes perfect sense!

@mellymar @joyfuljenny The side snap tees are awesome but not completely necessary. The cord will dry and fall off regardless. If it ever starts to smell at all alcohol it... And if it ever gets a LOT of redness around it or discharge than contact your peds doc/babe doc.
It generally falls off within 14 days usually sooner.
I only bought the side snap tees in 6 month size.......... But like @HayesRN13 said they are nice for nursing skin to skin and quick changes when they puke!!!

Just a cord PSA today lol....because preg zombie time tonight.

Thank you! I was starting to panic since I hadn't bought any and EDD is 5 days away... at least now if I don't get to the store before LO arrives it won't be the end of the world!
