Can I Eat Pineapple?

I read somewhere that it can induce contractions so I'm not sure if I'm supposed to eat it, I'm just craving it really bad right now and am wondering? I was going to call my doctor but I didn't want to bother them with something like this seeing as I go next week.

Re: Can I Eat Pineapple?

  • I've never heard anything bad with eating pineapple during pregnancy, and I've had it without incident myself and know others that have. That's not really an official medical answer, but my take on it is fruit is good for your. Better than my strange pickles and Big Kat bars. I love them one right after the other, and everyone around me gets sick watching it.

Yes pineapple is fine.  It's the core that is what is supposed to help induce labor but it would need to be a lot like 7-10 cores and even then there isn't solid proof it works much like most natural inducing tips.  \

If eating pineapple would really be that good at inducing contractions, my baby wouldve been in big trouble weeks ago. I LOVE pineapple. Eat slices, toss it in my smoothies, toss it in my salads, cant get enough <3

  • I think they're supposed to be good for digestion, too.  You're passing along your craving, mmmm pineapple!
  • never heard of this.  I've been eating tons of pineapple.  so juicy and refreshing.  I think you'll be fine.
  • I haven't heard that about pineapple but when I went to a nutrition class for pregnancy they said papaya was a big no no and that does induce labor.
  • Pineapple upside down cake--yum!

Yeah I'm pretty sure pineapple is ok, and I've been eating it almost daily for my whole pregnancy.

  • I'm 18 weeks and 6 days. I love pineapple. And for things like that, that are supposed to induce labor most of what you read says it doesn't work. A baby will come when they ate ready to.

I have heard this myth before about eating lots of pineapple (along with most high acidity foods) late in the 3rd trimester can induce labor. However after researching it a little bit I decided I think it's bunk. If it was really so risky I believe my doctor would have mentioned it.

  • I've heard that about pineapple, but I've eaten it with all three of my pregnancies. I have never asked my doctor, but I have a list of foods to avoid and it's not on there. If I buy it cut up, some days I eat the whole thing.
  • OK!  Where's this fanta!  I'm looking next time I go to the store!  I LOVE pineapple!  Anytime I know we are going to grill I buy some to grill.  Hmmm....warm pineapple!

    Pregnancy Ticker

  • I have read that pineapple does start contractions, but you have to eat 7-8 whole pineapples in one sitting. So if you're eating less than that, you'll be fine :D
  • Thank you everyone! I'm buying some at the store today!
  • Yes it's fine, it's just the core you need to avoid and no one really eats that anyway. On a side note, pineapple gives me horrific heartburn this pregnancy. Am I the only one?!
  • terrible heartburn !!! mmm pineapple ;];] ..ok now i really want to eat some pineapple but i only have grapes ...ehhh thatll have to do
