Edited this comment, because I foolishly posted before reading all the comments through the end, and I don't want to rehash what's already been talked out.

Another UO (or maybe not), stirring the pot when a situation isn't a situation anymore. ;)

Aw Man...I had a really snarky retort ready to post and then I came on here and read this and remembered that I'm a grown up. Crap. :P

  • I don't know that mine is really an unpopular opinion but...I'm already excited about my first meal after giving birth. It's like..everything. And the baby is too..but seriously I was SO starving right after I had my first, I passed him off to my husband so I could look at the hospital menu!(but I also had pitocin and I've heard that really messes with the mother/baby bonding).

My son was born after cafe hours so they gave me a ham & cheese sandwich. Best sandwich I've ever had in my life! Lol when u can't eat all day everything tastes delicious!

After 2 days of labor and throwing up for most of it I had a c-section. We got to our room and I asked for food and was told nothing for a few more hours! I was so mad. They gave me Popsicles. I then snuck food I had packed for my husband.

I don't remember being really hungry after my c section. I think I felt to bloated to feel really hungry.

Yes this! I don't remember eating until the next day.

I had a c-section in the evening after 2 days of no eating from the induction. And I had to wait until the next day, and all they gave me that day to eat was jello. I was so hungry.

Ok here's mine... I get that everyone is going to gain weight differently but when someone starts a thread of "weight gain" and the posts are "down 10 lbs" it makes me want to scream a little. I don't envy the ladies who are sick and feeling awful but "down 10 lbs" is not weight gain. You're not feeling good and getting thinner while growing a human, I wish. I'll take my 10+lbs of baby goodness (and bloat) and stuff it in my yoga pants over here.

Also motherhood maternity pants are a joke if you have an athletic build. Squats and cleans don't go well with S,M,L sizes. I swear to god a man designed those pants.

Lol. All of this. You are my new best friend.
  • I know I probably shouldn't be... but I'm the most scared about the way my body will change.. All my life I've been at a size I could manage. I wasn't like a health nut, I had the occasional treat but overall I felt good about my body and not really stressed... now I am so sad... I know I just need to face the facts, I'm going to gain weight, but looking at all of my unpregnant friends on facebook in their bikinis and cute short dresses, I just feel so helpless. Then it's also the fear of the stretchmarks afterwards... I know I'm just being selfish... but it's just frustrating... It's like nature's cruel joke.. have a baby, eff up your body. :(

I feel the same way. I ask myself if I'm a vain jerk but how could we blame ourselves for wanting to look good? Just remember that people think we're like earthy goddesses right now. ;) Enjoy using your body as a vessel to carry your beautiful baby. I know way too many women who exercised and ate right after pregnancy and look better now than they did before. We'll be rocking those dresses and bikinis with skinny bodies in no time!
*hug* thanks for that. I've been having a really hard time today keeping it together, so I needed that :) x
  • My upon is when the father acts like a leech!! My husband (soon to be ex) is super clingy. He calls me at least 20 times a day and texts me twice that much. And usually it has nothing to do about the baby. Sometimes, he wakes me up at 8 in the morning when I just went to bed at 1 and then I can't get back to sleep. I hate that. Anyone else have really clingy partners or fathers to be? I asked him for a divorce a couple weeks ago and he is even more clingy now than he was before.....ugh!

Yeah I've wondered about this. I think they should preface it with beginning weight (or at least an idea of it) because I've had friends who were heavy set and lost a little weight or didn't gain nearly as much as others. But women who were much thinner typically don't seem like they should lose 10 pounds without it being problematic or a health concern.
And total second on the pants, it's ridiculous!
  • I think it depends on the situation. With my first, I had not eaten anything for 2 days because I was induced. No water for 24 hours, just some ice chips. After the birth of course I was thirsty & hungry! When I found out it was after cafe hours I was angry! This time I am ordering food to the room as soon as I'm in labor! I want to eat right after delivery if I'm hungry!

This is true. I've gained no weight at 16+2 but should give a disclaimer that I already am 5'7" and weigh 200, so am overweight. Doctor wants me to ideally gain 15 but NO MORE than 25. Plus I have PCOS which raises my risk of GD.

There was a pizza shop that was right across from the Hospital and it was open super late. LIFE SAVER!!

  • I can totally understand why reading about weight loss would make you roll your eyes. But one way to consider it is that some of us become more healthy for the baby by losing weight early on; it's more an outcome of better living than a "must stay skinny!" goal.

For me, simply cutting out alcohol and munchies-related eating habits caused me to lose a fair amount of weight initially (although now at almost 14 weeks it's beginning to creep back.) I've become so much healthier and could very much stand to lose those pounds. Anyway, they won't be gone for long ; )

I'm down about 6 lbs, but was overweight to start. I never had any vomiting, just nausea, and I eat small meals all day, just pretty healthy. It probably helps that I gave up beer, which was probably the cause of my difficult losing weight pre-pregnancy. I'm finally starting to gain a little. I'll be happy with whatever weight I end up gaining, it's a for a good cause, although I'm hoping for a slow gain. My midwife hasn't given me a weight gain limit, which means a little less pressure, but I'm still being cautious. I envy you ladies who can exercise while pregnant, I was too nauseous at first, and now I get out of breath just going up stairs!

I'm down 8# still at 15 + 5. I couldn't eat anything for 10 weeks and I haven't gained it back yet. My doctor isn't in the least bit concerned. And, no, I'm not overweight.

Actually, this happened with my first 2 pregnancies as well. Was down in weight after the first trimester, but ended up gaining 60# with each (lost all of it too).

It's not a competition. It's just interesting to see how things progress differently depending on the individual.

I absolutely don't want anyone to feel bad about losing weight. I secretly wish I was losing weight too.
