  • Coffee

I cut back prior to our wedding because I wanted my teeth to be whiter. I forgot how hard that was and I eased the transition with redbull, which I won't be able to do if I ever get KU. I'm trying to cut back now - had 16 oz this morning and I'm still feeling twitchy about it.

Hot baths.  They are  my go-to when I'm exhausted, stressed, sick.  I hate not being able to soak in a steaming bath when I'm pregnant, because they comfort me to no end!

The foods I don't really follow as closely.  I still had cold cuts but I limited when  I had them.  Going down to 0-1 cups of coffee/Coke is hard though.

I also miss sleeping comfortably.  The people who say "get your sleep now when you can" either have never been pregnant or haven't been in a long time and don't remember pregnancy insomnia, how uncomfortable it is to sleep and the great middle of the night wake up screaming leg cramps!

Cold cuts are on the do not eat list for pregnant women. Although rare, the below can happen if you eat cold cuts while pregnant.

It is not safe for pregnant women to eat cold cuts because of bacteria such as Listeria monocytogenes which can cause a nasty kind of food poisoning known as listeriosis.

Listeriosis can quickly turn into a potentially deadly infection known as meningitis and cause serious blood infections. Meningitis can lead to paralysis, mental illness, disability and death because it affects the brain.

Listeria can also reach your baby through placenta, causing preterm labor, miscarriage or other damages to your baby so it is very important to follow the precautions provided below.

Probably like one 8-12 ounce. I will probably do half caffeine so I can enjoy two full cups.

Honestly...I normally drink 24+oz a day. Like, I said, 16 oz this morning was brutal.

However...I do think it's just a ritual for me than a dependence on caffeine. I just like the way coffee tastes, so half-caff/decaf may be an option for me if/when....

  • I really cut down on my coffee intake. I only have one 10oz cup in the morning. I drink it completely black though. Someone told me that I need to start adding milk. Does that really matter if I already cut back so much?

I also like a small espresso at night sometimes but I haven't had that in a really long time.

A lot of OBs don't follow this though and tell you can still have it.  It depends on your Dr., each one will have different guidelines. Mine told me it was fine if I got it from the deli counter and it was me preparing it.  She told me not to order it anywhere though, and if I did to heat it up first.  It depends on how easy-going your OB is and how you feel about it when you are pregnant.

From Mayo Clinic...unless you plan to also cut out milk products and vegetables I think it's silly to cut out deli meats.

If you couldn't eat cold cuts at least half of Dutch women would starve to death since most of us have sandwiches (and thus cold cuts) for breakfast and lunch every day. Of course there's vegetarian sandwich options, but I've never heard of any Dutch woman laying off/being told to lay off the cold cuts because they're pregnant.

I will miss 'filet Americain', which I'm pretty sure isn't in the least bit American, but which is basically very, very finely minced (and nicely seasoned) steak tartare that you eat on crackers/toast/bread, usually with chopped onions and/or a boiled egg.

    image

In the meantime I will INGEST ALL THE RAW BEEF!

I'll probably miss lazy Sundays in bed with DH once the LO is here and, y'know, sleeping a lot in general.

    Edited because commas.
  • Booze, sushi, and hot tubs...the trifecta.

  • I know my OB (same as sister with kids) follows it and actually scared the ish out of her not to eat any cold cuts. I guess to each their own. I'd personally rather not risk it but wouldn't judge anyone who did. I'm a big ol' scaredy cat!

  • Yeah, the stuff I can't eat and drink will really suck. I loooove soft cheeses :(. But mostly I'll miss the adventurous stuff. Every summer, DH and I go white water rafting. That's me up front, about to get swallowed by the water hahaha.

Honestly I've already given up caffeine and I'm not a big alcohol drinker and I don't take baths and i hate sushi and i dont really like fish either or any seafood but I do love sleeping on my stomach. I'm basically living the life of a pregnant woman but without the pregnancy lol

Edited: because my phone hates me.

As long as the cheese is pasteurized (which they almost always are in North America) then it's safe!  It's just the unpasteurized you need to worry about.  Yay for cheese!

Also, I would never be able to do white water rafting so I am jealous that you do and love it.  I am terrified of anything like that (I'm so boring! I hate roller coasters too!)!

I understand. I just don't want to live in a bubble I guess. Telling me not to eat deli meat equates to telling me no veggies or milk, and I just think if you're smart about it, you can eat what you want. Am I going to order a sandwhich at a restaurant? maybe, because I'm going to also order a salad at a restaurant. There's arguments out there for just about everything causing cancer or being bad for you.

Completely agree about not wanting to live in a bubble. I would just avoid the things listed on the avoid list.

Isn't the whole veggie thing more when they are not washed??? This I wasn't sure about.

Milk is pasteurized nowadays. Unpasteurized milk is considered "raw milk" and is harmful even when your not pregnant.

You can also make your own deli meat at home if you decide you want to forego cold cuts.  I have pinned recipes and how-tos using both a crock pot and/or the oven.  That way you can still have sandwiches.

  • Skiing. Probably my #1 favorite thing to do/biggest stress reliever in the winter. While I've done it my whole life, I'm not sure my OB will give me the green light (I've seen mixed responses on the WWW), especially if I get a BFP soonish and am farther along.

How has has no one mentioned the sexy time yet? If someone did, I didn't see it...

That other thread with the 6-8 week wait and tearing has me so worried that sexy time is over as we know it. DH is not a tiny man. This has me concerned!

    image
The 6 week wait after giving birth isn't that bad, you both are exhausted dealing with a newborn that it flies by pretty quick.  I know for me, I had no interest until I was getting more sleep, which wasn't until about 4 months when my LO grew out of his colic and started sleeping longer stretches in his crib.  Oh yeah, a lot of women end up co-sleeping because it's easier or the baby literally will not sleep unless they feel you.  I swore I wouldn't co-sleep, and I did for first 4 months.  Puts a damper on sexy time, but we both honestly didn't care at that point.

  • Wine. Some drink modest amounts in later trimesters-- no judgment from me. I puke at the smell of any booze while pregnant. Like, the last time I knew to take a test when the glass of wine sent me running to the trash can.

Honestly I would be more scared of making my own than just buying it because I don't have a clue what I'm doing and have no training in food safety. I don't really like meat anyway so I can forgo the 2 jimmy johns subs I have per year anyway.

I'll miss the Angry Orchard, hot baths (with Lush products, those are the best) though I can still take warm baths, and sleeping on my stomach or back, because sleeping on my side makes me have to pee.

I think you're right on all accounts, but you might have some leeway in the beginning.  I went skiing at 10 weeks without an issue.  And I am not particularly good (though I don't typically fall)--you sound better.  :)  My OB had no problem with it at that point in the pregnancy.  After your uterus leaves the protected area behind the pubic bone (for most, 2nd trimester forward, I think?), it's probably not a good idea.
  • @pulling2gether you don't have to miss sex ;). We didn't miss out on that at all during pregnancy and we started back up post partum right when I stopped bleeding. It was probably about 4 weeks hiatus.

This is shallow but I miss my figure while pregnant. It didn't feel like I was me, I kinda felt whalish. Granted I love dd beyond all reason and would gladly do it again.image

@HarryPotterandCats I was hoping someone would post this!  I had actually planned to lurk later today to see if it had been done!

I will miss sweet tea and sushi.  I can handle giving up coffee and alcohol, but sweet tea!  That is what will be hard for me.  We actually drink decaf at the house now, but I read that drinking decaf can be more harmful than just drinking caffeinated because of the process in which they make it decaffeinate.
