Subchronic Hematoma/Blood Clot support group

Re: Subchronic Hematoma/Blood Clot support group

  • Saturday I started bleeding, a lot. At one point there was a huge gush. I was diagnosed with SCH almost two weeks ago and hadn't had any bleeding. I went to the ED and fortunately the baby is fine but I was put on restrictions and bed rest. Sunday I only had some brown spotting. I follow up with my OB this morning. I'm hoping for some good news! This whole thing is nerve-wracking! Good luck to everyone <3

  • So grateful to find this page. I am 12w1d and found out this past Friday that I have a SCH after a sudden gush of blood and "passing" something came out of nowhere with zero warning. I was certain I had miscarried since I felt something pass but baby's heart was strong and was at perfect size wiggling all over, which was beyond encouraging.

I've been spotting all weekend but trying to rest until I can (hopefully) get in to the doctor today. It's been so nerve wracking because the er doc (as great as he was) didn't give me much info at all, just said it was small and to just live my life as normal. In fact, I had no idea until I googled about it, and also read this thread, that the gushing and spotting could be directly caused by the SCH and that it's not necessarily a bad thing if iteams it's bleeding out.

Thank you all so much for sharing your experiences. I hope you know they do help, a lot. I will keep you all in my thoughts and update when I can.
  • @emily.jeanne so the doc doesn't want to check on the sch?
  • I'm really glad you started this group! Just knowing that I'm not alone and hearing the positive stories is encouraging. I haven't been diagnosed with a SCH but I what I have going on sounds really similar to what others are saying. At 8w4d, I had brown spotting. They did an emergency ultrasound and said that baby looks great with a hb of 180. My dr. said that they didn't see a clot though. I'm now 10w4d and the spotting has continued...ranging from brown to red, really light and sometimes heavier with small clots. I have been back to the dr several times since this all started and each time they find the baby's hb and tell me that other than the bleeding, everything looks good. My Dr. doesn't seem overly concerned about it, but for me, it's completely nerve racking! I'm trying to stay positive but it's really hard not to panic and the unknown is killing me! Praying for the bleeding to stop soon so that I know my little one will be okay. My thoughts are with all of you ladies and praying that we all go on to have healthy little ones! :)
  • I had an appointment saturday morning, and we got to see the little bean jumping around! It even waved at us! The small area of the placenta that was detached has reattached, and my clot is thinning out and is right up against my cervix, hence the constant (and annoying) brown spotting. I've been passing little bits of what I think are clot too, which are super gross but a good sign. I haven't had any more major bleeding, thank goodness! My biggest worry this past week has been the disgusting stomach virus I got on top of my usual ms.

  • Nope he didn't want to do an ultrasound. But I haven't had any fresh bleeding for about 3 weeks. But if they can't find the heartbeat with the doppler, I will get an ultrasound. Even the brown spotting stopped about 3 days ago, I know an ultrasound would make me feel better but he was very positive at my last appointment that it was going to be a normal pregnancy from here on!? I'm just really ready to be off restrictions.
  • @marafaye so happy your LO is busy swimming around! Keep us posted :)

@knrickert it's good knowing this group is providing some sort of support. I also felt lost when I was diagnosed. I am sitting in the doctors office right now hoping to find a heart beat. I am 11w2d... I've had some pain in my left side but no spotting for 3 weeks now. We are doing the Nuchal Translucency ultrasound next week and will check on SCH. Hoping to hear all positive updates from all the worries mommies in this group.
  • I just had my first appointment last week (around 10 weeks) and they did an ultrasound because I have been having some spotting.  They saw the baby with a fast heartbeat (180 bpm) and also found a SCH.  The doctor told me to take it easy and to not have sex until it is reabsorbed.  This is my fourth baby/pregnancy and I have never had anything happen like this before.

I am relieved to have an explanation for the spotting but I am worried about over doing it and risking the health of my baby/pregnancy.  I was supposed to accompany my 1st grade son on his class field trip to the zoo next week and the doctor told me that I should not go.  We also have a 10 day Disney/So. Cal trip planned in June that I am worried about having to cancel and disappoint my three kiddos.  I know they will understand, but they have been counting the days until we leave.  I sure hope this SCH clears up soon!  It's hard taking it easy with three young, active sons!

I'm glad that we can all share our experiences.  I agree with @amandaejgreen, I hope to hear of everybody's positive updates soon!
  • @amandaejgreen so how did it go? Does the Dr still have you on any restrictions? Or do you have to wait till next week to find out if you are in the clear?
  • @emily.jeanne the appointment went well! Heard the baby's heartbeat! Baby was hiding behind one of my main arteries, so it was hard to distinguish between my heart beat and hers. As for the SCH, I have to wait until May 11th to find out if we are in the clear ( ultrasound results ) they told me yesterday it is very small at 1cmx1.8cm ! That was a relief! Although we are still on the same restrictions, no exercise, no sex, and no heavy lifting. Did you other momma's find out the size of your SCH ?
  • I found out about mine at 8W and was told it was very small and was told I have no restrictions on excercise. I have been running 3-4 times a week and we have our NT scan on Monday. Hoping that it's been absorbed! I haven't had any bleeding my whole pregnancy.
  • Dr in the morning (finally). I'm anxious and nervous and can't sleep (SO snoring isn't helping). I just want to know what's going on in there! Trying to take comfort it the positives: baby looked great on ER ultrasound, no evidence of distress, SCH is small (not sure exactly how big), we are 12 weeks, spotting is minimal... Sigh, still anxious though...
  • I had some spotting at week 6 that progressed to bright red for a day- thought I had for sure lost the baby. Went in the next day to dr for my first ultrasound and there was a little heartbeat ticking away. Dr said I had a small to medium sized bleed, to take it easy for two weeks and they would follow up. At my 2 week appt the bleed was still there but I stopped spotting 2 days after my initial appt- and no bleeding or spotting since then. Dr recommended to take same precautions and they would follow up again in 3 weeks. I haven't had any spotting or cramping for 4 weeks now, I'm 10 weeks and I feel pretty confident that everything is going to be okay as long as I take it easy. Try not to stress, I know it's hard but you need to take care of yourself
  • Just diagnosed with a SCH today. So glad to finally have a reason for all the bleeding but still very nervous. I'm at 9w5d. How is everyone doing? My bleeding is the worst in the middle of the night and goes away during the day. My doctor says to take it easy but since I work full-time with kids and have a 20 month old it's really hard to relax.
  • Went in for my check up, they found the heartbeat with the doppler. She did have to try for quite a while, but found it! I've got to go back in two weeks. I haven't had any spotting in a week. I'm still on restrictions until I reach 14 weeks. I'm 12 weeks right now. So I'm very hopeful, she found the top of my uterus quickly above my pelvis so this Turkey is growing!
They never told me the size of my SCH?
  • Haven't had any spotting since Wednesday! Makes me happy but I'm not forgetting that dr said he would be surprised if I bleed again :/ I didn't find out how big it is though although the er dr said it was small. Next check up on the 12th.

Something random though.... Has anyone had an increase in weird dreams/nightmares since they found out about their SCH? Mine seem to be in overdrive.
  • the only dreams I had were extra sexy sex dreams about my hubby. lol I think it was because I was put on pelvic rest. Anyone else?

Pelvic rest, lifting/exercise restrictions and bed rest til at least May 11. My clot has doubled over the last couple weeks from 3.5 to 7cm. I'm thankful the baby is fine but I'm ready for all this to be behind me so I can get excited and prepared!!!

So bad news for me, started heavy bleeding again last night. No cramping but still stressful. So I'm guessing I get another ultrasound and I'll just pray baby is just fine in spite of all this! I thought I would be over this by 12 weeks.
  • @emily.jeanne I hope you feel better! I think at this point you would be having contractions if it affected baby. Keep us posted.... I am sure you are ok. Sending you positive vibes~
  • I went in Tuesday of last week with heavy bleeding. They didn't tell me at the er what size it was, just told me I had a tear. Had a follow up with my dr Friday and it was 5cm. Dr has me on strict bed rest until further notice due to the location. It is at the base of my uterus very close to the cervix. Go back this week to check on the healing. Praying for a quick recovery. This bed rest stuff is for the birds!!

I copy and pasted my update response from my prayers post because well frankly im too lazy to type again. I am not completely sure this is what I have as the ER doctor wasn't comfortable diagnosing and felt it best to leave it up to my OB when I see him tomorrow, but it sounds pretty similar to what yall have going on so I think she was right....

This morning I woke covered in blood after a night of abdominal and
lower back pain. This was quite the scare and I had honestly started to
accept the obvious. I spent three hours waiting for my ultrasound. While I did not get to see my
little monkey I was told she (wishful thinking) was very difficult and
moved almost too much for the tech to get good measurements (praise the
lord baby is fine!) She eventually got the measurements needed and baby
measures right on time 11w+5 with a strong heartbeat of 163.
    Mommy
has been put on pelvic rest and told not to clean house, pick up on the
children, stress or get very physical. (At least until I return to my
ob and he says otherwise). The NP said they couldn't get clear answers
as to what is the cause of the bleeding but said the most likely cause
is placenta previa or subchronic hemorrhage. Hopefully my ob will have
answers for me soon, but in the meantime I will be taking it a bit
easier and thanking God my baby is OK.  im 11+5 btw
  • @emily.jeanne sending love and light your way. Are you heading in to ER or waiting to call your OB? Either way try to think positive (as hard as it is) and hold on to the things that look like good signs, like no cramping. I have you all in my thoughts!
  • I have been meaning to ask, does anyone have the RH factor? If so, did you already get RoGham since you were bleeding (normally we don't get it until 28 weeks)? I completely forgot to ask my doctor about it and I have been thinking about it all weekend.
  • Hi new to the group and thought I should share. I have been bleeding/spotting since 6.5 weeks I'm 9.6 weeks now. I've had 3 u/s showing a healthy baby. Heart rates were 134 @ 6.5 wks 174 @ 8.5 wks and 168 @ 9 weeks . But I've been spotting constantly since that time has me freaked out . Before my last u/s at 9 weeks I had a massive bleed, bright red and gushed no clots or cramps though. The doctor said I had a bit of an abrasion with the placenta. So I'm crossing my fingers and was put on pelvic rest till the bleeding/spotting stops. I can't wait for my next schedule u/s to make sure baby is doing okay. Long story short I've never experienced this much bleeding in a pregnancy before.
  • I'm going to wait and see my Dr when they can get me in on Monday. If I was cramping I would try the ER but as of now the bleeding has let up, why increase the stress level by going to the ER. I'm RH- and got my rogham shot after my first round of heavy bleeding. I'm definitely more relaxed than the first time this happened, I I'm very hopeful that baby is ok. But so disappointing because I'm afraid of being on restrictions for the rest of the pregnancy. School is almost out and I have a 6yr old. It maybe a long summer. But if it gets us a healthy baby it will be worth it!
  • Ok went to the Dr got an ultrasound baby is fine. On restrictions until the ultrasound to find out the sex! Mid June.
  • Had my ultrasound today... She couldn't find the blood clot! But she did find a healthy active baby with a heart beat of 166bpm. The GA is 12w5d instead of 12w2d... Very happy!
  • @emily.jeanne and @amandaejgreen I am so glad to her that your babies are looking good! I am anxious waiting for my appointment next week. I started spotting again yesterday and was a bit crampy feeling today which made me nervous.
  • @jellybug8402 I bet your little one is fine! It may just be normal streaching you are feeling. Just try to think happy thoughts :-)
  • @emily.jeanne glad baby is ok! How did your U/S look? We had our NT testing yesterday and the ultrasound tech said she couldn't find the SCH. But when I look at my picture it looks like a SCH underneath baby.... I have to wait for a week to see the OBGYN. what did your ladies look like and what do you think ?
  • @amandaejgreen I think that is way too close to baby to be a SCH, I think it's just fluid behind it's back. You can see mine is the thin black line under the baby's rump almost at the edge of the picture.

I had it and had to get ultrasounds every week until it was gone. It was gone at 10w!

  • Oh yes, I see it! Has it gotten any smaller ? I'm trying not to be nervous but the NT testing I think is stressful... Can't wait to get the results on Monday.
  • I've had spotting since early on and it seems to be getting more frequent. I've gone in for 4 ultrasounds (1 was actually already scheduled for dating) because of it. It's always red, sometimes with pink or brown discharge, but only when I wipe after peeing. It's not only gotten more frequent (been everyday for last week) but yesterday it was a lot more than usual so I went in today to get checked. Everything looked good, dr said baby is growing great and has a strong heartbeat, but since the spotting hasn't stopped my dr wants me to go to a high risk dr to see if they can figure out the causes of the spotting. I've read through most of your stories but I'm wondering if this sounds like SCH? Or if anyone has had a similar experience.
  • I was bleeding a lot this past Weds and my OB told me to go to ER. They did an ultrasound and baby was there to be surprise and he had a strong heartbeat. They found a SCH behind my placenta; did a pelvic exam and sent me home. The bleeding stopped that night and resume a day later (very light bleeding). Today I woke up in the middle of the night and found myself soaking in blood. I rushed to the bathroom and passed a huge clot (looks like a size of orange). I got really scared and I am back in the ER. I wonder if this is over for me. I feel sad and I am waiting in the ER now. Has anyone been through similar experience and the pregnancy turns out fine?
  • @jaybee1111 so sorry you're going through this, hoping you got some good news
  • @Cardiganmom2: thank you for the well wishes. So far so good for me. I had another bleeding incident since last Sunday and it was very scary for me. I did several ultrasounds on Sunday and yesterday and baby is still doing well, moving with strong heartbeat. It is a relieved but I am
still scared. Will be on bed rest next 2 weeks. Hoping for the best here.
