December 2015 Moms

No heartbeat @ 5w6d..High HCG Levels.

I had my 1st ultrasound yesterday and the doc seen the sac and the yolk, but no heartbeat. She said I am measuring correctly. But here's the catch, my HCG levels were 19,198 at 5w4d. Which is pretty high, even the doctor was a little confused. She said it was probably just too early to see a heartbeat. Only seen one sac in there, was thinking it was twins for a minute because of the high levels, I know that It could still be a possibility. Or I just have higher than normal HCG levels.. She cut out molar pregnancy.

Was just wondering how early you gals seen a heart beat? And if anyone else levels were that high that early?!

Doc told me not to worry about it.. but hard not to. I have another apt next Friday. I'll be 7 weeks then.

Re: No heartbeat @ 5w6d..High HCG Levels.

  • Also had an ultrasound at 5 wks 4 days and the doctor also saw the sac and yolk but no heartbeat yet. Going back in again in a week. Very normal as it's still early. My hcg is not that high...more like 10,000, but there is so much variation in hcg levels I've been told. Yes it definitely is hard not to worry, but hang in there and I'm sure you will see that little heartbeat soon!

  • Had one at 6w5d but couldn't even really make out the sac very well and I don't have another ultrasound until May 14th
  • Thats a long time to make you wait!!!!!
  • That's really early to expect.to see a.hb.

  • I had an early u/s only due to late ovulation. Should have been 6 w 5 d but was actually 5w5d. Gest. Sac and yolk but no fetal pole. Went back 6 days later and had a little baby and heartbeat! Don't lose hope. Now I'm almost 8 w. :)
  • :D thanks for the mind easing! I am so anxious for next friday- can i just sleep for 7 days and wake up and be friday! Hahaha..sure could use it, no energy whats so ever!
  • We just saw the two sacs at 5w5d and went back 7 days later and saw the heartbeat and baby
  • It's still early, I wouldn't worry just yet! given the yolk sac and good HCG # sounds good. The heart start beating between 5-6w I read, so maybe your little one is just still working on things :) My HCG was 3600 at 5w exactly, so if it were to double everyday (praying) it would be around the same range :)
  • So bvaughn113 your expecting twins!? Congrats!! And what where your levels (if you had them done)
  • Thanks grkgdss00! Your levels sound great too!!! :D Did you get an ultrasound yet?
  • Yeah I'm really upset that they won't give me another one until then. We saw 2 small black spots on the ultrasound but I can't get my phone to attach a file so that I can get opinions on it. bvaughn113 if you can see it (its my icon) would you give your opinion since you are having twins.
  • Just try and relax! (2) small dots! :) im anxious for you!! Keep me posted!
  • I had an ultrasound at 5 weeks 3 days and saw an empty sac, no heartbeat, no yolk sac, my hcg levels where 18,253. Levels for the first two months could go from 15,000 up to 200,000 so it's a pretty wide margin, your normal values are not someone else's normal values. Went in yesterday at 6 weeks 3 days and saw the tiny baby with its tiny heartbeat, it's developing just fine, my current hcg levels are 94,853 as of yesterday.

I know it's hard not to worry since I was so worried myself until yesterday but take it for someone who has been in your place, do not worry!!! It's still very early, trust everything will be ok

    Hugs and best of luck

  • I can't not worry when they make me wait 3 weeks in between ultrasounds. I don't understand it. Everything I read says if they don't see a heartbeat or heartbeats then they normally do a repeat within a week or two but to make me wait wondering if my baby/babies are ok for 3 weeks is just cruel and I don't know what to do about it
  • While there is a possibility you could hear a heartbeat at 5/6 weeks, it is more common not to be able to hear one until 8 weeks.  My OB won't take you for an ultrasound before this time because there is a possiblity you won't hear anything.  I'm actually surprised that they took you this early, unless you are high risk for some sort of reason. Waiting 3 weeks would put you at 8 weeks, so I wouldn't worry.

  • We went in at what we had thought was at least six weeks but we were measuring 5w5d. Saw a sack and a yolk sack but no fetal pole or heartbeat. We didn't check my hCG levels because they don't do that after they start ultrasound and you unless if they have a reason to think your numbers might be dropping. Sorry I couldn't be of more help but I understand the stress of not seeing anything, but like everybody said… It's very early and things change day by day at this point.
  • I was suppose to be almost 7 weeks that makes me worry and they don't seem to care and that's why I left my last ob
  • I have my first US next Friday and the anticipation is killing me! I will be 9 weeks tomorrow!
  • I will be 1 day short of 10 weeks not 8 weeks.
  • kristenaluke no u/s yet but ill get one at 7w2d because i'm being monitored for cysts. that's in less than 2 weeks :)
  • @domsmom52714 I would maybe try another Doctor if your that worried, I know I would be a little upset because you are a little further along!

  • @grkgdss00, My ultrasound showed that I had a cyst but they said it was completely normal, they said its on the ovary that I ovulated from, and that the cyst causes progesterone to help progress the pregnancy!! Never knew that!

  • I had an us done when I was 5wks 6 days as well. We weren't able to hear the heart beat either. My doc said it may be too early so I go in next Friday when I'm 8 weeks. You can barely see my little bean at the bottom of the sac but he or she is there. Trust me i was a little disappointed when she didn't hear the heart beat but she wasn't concerned at all and even said that I had a great sac... This is our first baby and my first pregnancy after trying over 2 years so trust me I am very paranoid. And it's hard to relax at time. God knows that all we want is a healthy baby. I will deal with all the morning sickness, fatigue in the world as long as our baby is healthy... Just stay positive.

  • @domsmom52714 stay strong and positive! If you feel so uncertain about your Ob maybe you should change to a new one, it's still early and you need to feel comfortable and safe with your doctor. Your life and your babies will be on his hands.

  • You can go out of network. If you need better care you need better care. You just gotta do what works

We said goodbye to our sweet Taylor Ashley on August 8, 2012.We lost baby Noelle on May 1, 2015

Mom to Cam and Al, now expecting baby number 3, August 2016. Praying for lots of sticky baby dust!
  • We didn't see Nine's HB until 7w6d. My hcg wasn't super high. My only draw was at 53803. That's not very high for 8 weeks(when I had draw done). Lots of us haven't seen HB that soon. Try not to panic yet. I know it's easier said than done because we are going to be nuerotic about it anyway. At least I am lol but keep us posted.
  • If I had at least seen the actual gestational sac and yoke sac I would feel better but we didn't even see that. And I'm on the medical card so no going out of network for me
  • I had to have a vaginal ultra sound and the ultra sound tech did find the baby's heartbeat but it was soft. I am also 5w6d today. I have a tilted uterus which she said would make it hard to find the heartbeat with a normal ultrasound.
  • Fingers crossed & prayers to those waiting for their next ultrasound for that little heart beat it sounds like we are in the same boat all early! <3

  • Yes thanks and good luck to you as well
