Rambo Cat for president. (I'll go back to being serious, I promise. Just couldn't help myself)

I think that, regardless of our political opinions, we can all agree that Rambo Cat wins :)

  • Actually, I saw a shirt on Esty that I intend to purchase, that was a mock up of a candidate poster. It said "Skywalker / Solo 2016". If that were a for real party on offer, they totally have my vote. A Jedi and a smuggler? Yeah! :-bd

  • I've heard that Rand Paul (Rons son) maybe running

Yeah, I want to do some more research on him. I've heard his name linked with a few things I wasn't crazy about - can't remember what they were now thanks to pregnancy brain but maybe they'll come to me later... I definitely want to look more into him though, along with Marco Rubio (not Hillary though, like I said, I'm not a fan of the Clintons).
He announced a week or so ago and CNN was trying to make him seem mean and snappy towards reporters. He had shh'd a woman and that sounds bad but it wasn't as mean as they made it seem. He's actually super nice and I'm probably biased because he's from my hometown and was my dad's optometrist.

Which one, Rand Paul or Marco Rubio? I'd heard about Rubio's confirmation that he's running, but not Paul's.

On a side note, my brother's college roommate's dad is Rand Paul's campaign manager, so my brother actually got to meet him a few years ago. I think he did say that Rand Paul was a pretty nice guy!

    Gaius Balthar for president!

Is this a Battlestar Galactica reference?! If so, high five!

Oooh I want that shirt! :)

In all seriousness though, I'm gonna wait a while before I decide on a presidential candidate. Can't say I'm thrilled with the current line up. When I was watching CNN last week someone joked that Gore should try to run again and that Michelle Obama should be his running mate. Can you imagine? I highly doubt that would happen though.

Rand Paul and his speech was actually pretty impressive. It was during my 3 hour glucose test last week.

Obama is shady and if you pay attention a lot of his plots are surfacing.

    What are his plots?
I could talk about it all day but what bothers me the most is that he traded 5 terrorist to bring home a man he had imprisoned. We have had how many hostage situations and he keeps saying we don't negotiate with terrorists??? Ummm what happened that time? It's shady. He keeps using executive power and no one says anything. Ugh and I don't get why he tried so hard to keep Benjamin Netanyahu from winning this election. Israel is rather important to Christianity and I dont like that he refuses to help protect them from Iran. Ugh and let's back out of Yemen because they are safe now...just in time for ISIS to invade?

Btw I so feel like everyone has experienced life in a different way and politics are different depending on your location. were all friends ;)

Oh and the gun thing...no one needs automatic weapons. That's understandable. I however do want the choice to protect my family and my land. I've been held at gun point and it's not fun. I will never be that vulnerable again.

ETA because my phone hates me and the ughs are for examples that I couldn't not give even though I planned on just giving one.
Thanks for responding! I am really appreciating the thoughtful dialogue. In real life, I am a very political person, but on here it makes me nervous.

I like Obama (less and less if I am honest though - but do think he's doing a good job overall). But I don't disagree with any of your points here, actually.

I do wonder why you call them "plots" rather than "decisions" or "actions." I ask because when people act like there is a big conspiracy, I tend to roll my eyes and move on. But like here, when people can explain their views, I like to listen.

Plots to me are like the Skull & Bones theory that I have about our past several presidents ;-)

There was a study from one of the Ivy Leagues recently that said something like 85% of Americans actually believe the same thing together on most gun laws. But when the lobbyists pay the politicians, they rally people around the issue in a way that we don't realize is not actually how we feel.

So like here, I don't necessarily agree with @devyns2nd belief that guns should be so available - but I do recognize it is currently part of our culture and, arguably, constitution and therefore think we would both be willing to support a law that banned or drastically reduced access to automatic weapons but still allowed most people to keep most of their guns.

I'll have to look that up! I have to be honest, I haven't really been keeping up with politics lately because I've been so consumed with other things (mainly school). It definitely will be more of a priority for me come election time, though!

I'm for the legalization of marijuana. People who have read my 'if I weren't pregnant for a day' bit would have guessed that. I'm not ashamed to say that I would probably vote for someone if they ran with that as part of their message. Of course, as much as I am for it, I wouldn't compromise some of my other stuff (women's rights, voters rights, peaceful resolution to conflict) for that candidate, but I would definitely take notice of someone who put that out there that would be part of their agenda. Just a progressive hippy pothead, here. :)>-

Legalize it!!! Time to recognize it ;)

  • Okay, so here's my political gripe of the day: while I was driving into the city for class today, I got to see a demonstration by a bunch of pro-lifers who felt that the best way to get their message across was by walking around with HUGE photos of babies who were aborted at ~20 weeks. Like, these pictures were bigger than the people themselves. No way to avoid looking at them.

Disclaimer here - I am pro-life, so under most circumstances, I would have no problem with seeing a pro-life display. But I think that kind of graphic demonstration is incredibly ineffective. It just makes people inexpressibly sad, or completely and totally ticked off. Plus, it could absolutely trigger bad memories - what about moms who've had abortions? Heck, what about those of us who are pregnant, are planning to keep our baby, and just don't want to see that kind of imagery? Or what about moms driving around town with little kids, who are now going to ask questions that they shouldn't even have to think about yet? Or just the fact that those signs constitute a distraction and could very easily cause an accident, especially at a busy intersection.

Ugh. Rant over. Go ahead and flame me if you want - I know I've opened a huge can of worms here!
I literally just watched a documentary about that group last night!!!! Being pro choice i felt that they had abused their freedom of speech right. I also felt that since most states obly do abortion until 12 wks they were incredibly off. I think you nailed it by saying it waa offensive and unfortunatelt put people really really bad situations when they had no intention of being bombarded with such a graphic display

I agree! Like I said I have no problem with non-graphic pro-life displays, just as I have no problem with non-graphic pro-choice displays - that's the beauty of freedom of speech! But the graphic ones are completely unnecessary and do way more harm than good. Actually, I don't think they do any good!

This just isn't true. Most states allow elective abortion (like not medically indicated) until at least 20 weeks, more allow it until viability (which originally was determined to be 28 weeks I think, but now generally is more like 24), and some even later (the original 28 weeks) or have no restrictions at all. Had to correct that!

Those pictures of later term abortions are such BS because no one would choose to have an abortion at 27 weeks just because they don't want to be a parent. I guess there might be some outlier cases where the woman didn't find out she was pregnant or wasn't able to access abortion services earlier, but in general no one's going to do that. Those abortions occur because of severe threat to the mother's life, the fetus isn't viable anyway, etc. And yes, like you ladies said, what a horrible thing to be reminded of if you were in that situation - or what if you were going through it right then? Or what if you'd had a late term miscarriage or still birth? The pictures would look the same. It's just cruel, doesn't change anyone's mind, and OMG, yes, what would you say to your 5 year old that saw those pictures? Even if you were staunchly pro-life, what the hell could you say? Those demonstrations really just make me deeply sad.

  • Those people are crazy. There are ways to communicate your beliefs without harassing people. When I lived in Philadelphia there was a Planned Parenthood location very near to my favorite all-natural breakfast cafe. My friend and I parked the car and started walking to the restaurant and the protesters began yelling and screaming at us calling us names. I was like IM JUST TRYING TO GET SOME WHEAT CAKES!!!!!!! We crossed the street right away and they realized we weren't going to the clinic- but they just carried on with their business with no remorse for harassing two innocent women. It's disgusting.
