Baby led weaning?

anyone trying baby led weaning with their little one? It seems so much easier than making purees. I just slice up frruits and veggies and put in a little baggies. I started with purees but storage is too much. One veggie or fruit makes ALOT. And it goes to waste. The are only good for 3 days in fridge and 30 in freezer. Maybe I'm not doing enough feedings during day because I don't want to have him get constipated or not breastfeed.

So far I let him chew on fruits and veggies. We have tried: Apple slices, cucumber slices, celery, I bite of pieces of banana and avocado, melon & strawberries. He seems more intrigued.

  • We are BLW. It's going well. DS eats insane amounts so nothing goes to waste here. Had our first major gag/puke incident yesterday which reminds me that he still needs things cut up small but we've been doing this for a month and a half now so when he did gag, I was able to keep my cool and everything was ok. Not looking to repeat the experience though. We're currently giving breakfast and dinner. I plan to start lunch around 8-9 months and snacks at 10 months when I'm weaning off daytime nursing completely for daycare.
  • I was hoping to do it, but LO is not interested!! I'll put banana slices, cucumbers, carrot chips, pieces of chicken on his tray and he won't really do much them. He'll eat up purée food just fine though! I'm just following his lead though... Maybe he'll eventually get there :)
  • We do both. This is a list of foods we've tried. So far pancakes, noodles, and chicken are favorites. There really hadn't been anything she has been unwilling to put in her mouth.

    Apples (peeled)
    Cucumber (peeled)
    Mushroom
    Banana
    Avocado
    Pancake
    Pickle
    Strawberry
    Salmon
    Pears
    Carrot (steamed)
    Broccoli (steamed)
    Chicken (grilled)
    Noodles
    Zucchini
    Squash
    Raspberries
    Puffs

I tried pieces of chicken but I'm nervous to stray from fruits and veggies. Also...things with spices. Which is everything whenever we go out to eat!

I followed all the rules with my daughter when it came to solids and this guy is total opposite! I'm a rule follower and the little dude is making me stray. Haha. He's so intrigued with what I'm eating.
  • I wanted to do BLW so bad but she wasn't having it. As of now we do 3 meals a day (starting stage 3) and we give her food when we go out. I've slowly been introducing her to solids but for some reason she has to put it in her mouth herself or she gags. She has had rice, beans, scrambled eggs, and puffs. I have little spaghetti O's and mini ravioli for her but I haven't tried it yet.

Usually it takes kids several meals before they get the hang of it. It's not unusual for meal times to consist of them simply playing with the food and not actually eating it.

I don't mean to be rude, but have you read much about BLW? You are NOT supposed to feed the child. They're supposed to feed themselves. Also, I would try different foods - what you've offered are not easily grabable. Offer chunks that she can hold and chew on. Banana cut down the middle (a spear), avocado, apple slices (peeled).

Yea I've read a few forums and I'm aware about not feeding her. What I was trying to get at is she is struggling with textures other than purée so it wasn't going well. That is all :)
