Re: RTT 2.0

  • So our neighbors have a dog who barks constantly for about 1-1.5 hours starting at LOs bedtime. I've talked to several other neighbors who say the people are nice and would be responsive if we spoke with them about it. Any pointers from people who have dealt with this problem before? What should I/shouldn't I say? We're planning on being very positive about it when we go over there tomorrow.

  • How do I teach LO to drink from a straw? I've tried a couple things and she just chews on it.

  • @emilyann64 no real pointers since I've never done it before, but I wonder if bringing over a plate of cookies would help? Maybe guilt them into controlling their dog ;)
  • Talltrees82 - How exciting!

I can relate as my DD is on the later end with some developments. She started army crawling last month at 10.5 months old and very recently started doing  a real belly off the floor crawl but still does the army/swim crawl often. She just for the first time this past week got into a sitting position from the floor by herself and she doesn't pull to stand holding on to anything yet. We have been doing some home PT as her legs are a little weak and slower to develop.

I have to keep reminding myself that she is making progress and babies all develop at their own pace, but it makes me anxious seeing all these babies walking already!
  • LO just crawled for the first time this morning!!! Proud mama right here :)

    Yeah! How exciting :)
  • Thanks @LolaX2 ! I used to worry about LO's development, but he's just developing at his own pace. He's a big boy (27ish lbs) and I think that's why he's at the back of the pack- his body is so heavy to move! He pulls up to his knees but not to stand, and is nowhere near walking yet. Sometimes it feels like all the other babies are running 5k races!

My friend has a little girl who is 16 months and learned to crawl at 15 months. She's a healthy, happy baby! Try not to worry too much :)

The way I taught my boys was to put a straw in my water and seal the water in it with my finger (you know whoa I mean? Vacuum effect. Then, put it their mouth and take your finger off to let the water go. After they get used to swallowing what you release into their mouth you can start to hesitate before letting the water gointo their mouth. Eventually, you will feel her start to suck. Then you'll know shes got the hang of it!
  • Thanks @Talltrees82 that's a good idea!
  • I am so over winter and all the germs! My 3 year old and A14 baby have been sick for 5 going on 6 weeks now! Started out with stomach bugs, led right into nasty colds that developed into bronchitis and DD also got a double ear infection...10 days of antibiotics for both of them. We were all healthy for about 4 days then both DD and DS started coming down with another cold and now I have it too. DH worked an early shift today and picked the kids up early, well he just called and said that DS just puked on the floor! Ugggghhhhhh! When will this end? DH and I have had to take turns taking time off work to stay home with them and my MIL even stayed with them 2 days...I can't keep taking sick time like this!
  • Amen, @Sporty1216! I love when my parents are here!

  • I read an interesting article today that an FDA committee is recommending that Tylenol remove the words "pain reliever" from its label. They are saying there is no proof of pain relief in children under age 2 and that it is only for fever reduction.
  • LO figured out how to clap his hands at dinner tonight :). He was so proud of himself!

Interesting! Will the same go for ibuprofen?

This seems to be making the rounds, but apparently it was written in 2011 and those changes have not taken place. I'm not sure how reputable the source is. I think it's true that you shouldn't reach for medicine for every little thing, but I am suspicious of it not having any benefit for pain. Just my totally non professional opinion ;)
  • DH has been working late quite a bit lately. Of course that means that I'm doing dinner and bedtime for two kids by myself. It's not the end of the world, but what's really irritating me is that he keeps coming home just after I've put the 3 year old to bed. Of course she jumps out, gets excited and then he reads her more stories. She's then up for way longer than would have been if he'd arrived just 30 minutes later. It makes me feel like all the effort I put in just goes down the drain. I wish he would just stay super late if he's going to do that! Vent over.
  • That would frustrate me too, @yellowflower15 !
  • @0jamielynn0 that's so adorable!

@yellowflower15 I'd be frustrated too! Hope you guys find a solution.

I was out at an appointment and DH put LO to bed. I come home, pick up the house, clean up from dinner, walk the dog. Finally sit down with a glass of wine and fire up the iPad. LO starts crying. Classic.
  • Yep. I decided to treat myself to going to bed early. I just climbed in and LO is moaning/crying. I am hoping so hard that he sorts it out and goes to sleep. Please baby. Please!
  • Almost two hours later, I'm still working on that same effing glass of wine. It took multiple attempts to get LO back to sleep. Fingers crossed that he is out for the night. He's been sick since Saturday night, but my sympathy is running out. I'm so over the screaming. Which makes me feel guilty. I should have shotgunned that wine.
  • Right there with ya, @Talltrees82 ! 40 minutes of rocking and shushing and LO is out again. Hopefully until morning. These molars are awful. Last night he woke for the first time at 2:30am, but when I glanced at the clock I thought it said 5:30 and I was so proud. Haha. When I brought him to bed to snuggle, thinking we only had 30 minutes to a reasonable wake up, I fed him and glanced at my phone. Only then did I realize it was 2:30. Oh, sleep deprivation. The games you play.
  • @Sporty1216 it's kind of nice to know that I'm not the only one with a cranky, sleepless baby, but it would be nicer if all the babies were sleeping peacefully! I hope your LO sleeps through the night, and that you get a decent night of sleep! I'm wondering if we're getting molars here too.

I'm off to bed now, wishing a good sleep for everyone out there in dreamland!
  • Well. He was up again at 1:30 and ready to party. Ugh. I really think it is the molars--they are just starting to poke through--but this needs to end soon! I'm ready for some sleep!
  • Just a warning....yesterday LO was chewing on a little nerf foam football in the backseat. I heard him cough weird, looked back in the mirror, and saw an orange piece of the football in his mouth! I freaked and pulled over to get it out so he didn't choke. He had 3 little pieces in his mouth. Thankfully he coughed so I looked! Scared me to death. It never occurred to me that he could bite that stuff off, so thought I'd share!
  • @0jamielynn0 that is scary! Thanks for the heads up! I'm glad everything is fine.
  • I'm not sure if we're doing more teething or what, but LO went on an 8 hour nap strike today and that is not like him at all.  He had tubes put in yesterday, and I can already tell a huge difference (he slept through the night for the first time in 3 months!), but boy he was a bear today.  A hungry bear.  He had 3 huge meals, a big snack, unlimited nursing (with a full supply), and he was still screaming, so I said eff it and gave him formula too (two 4 ouncers within 2 hours of each other, totally unheard of for him).

I swear, my child may gain 5 lbs in a week at this rate.

Hugs to you ladies with sleepless LOs.  And Jamielynn so glad you heard him cough and were able to get the pieces out!  The scary crap our LOs do... My LO did a head first dive bomb into the bathtub the other day.  I had no clue he could even get over the side of it, let alone ally oop into the dang thing.
  • On a side note, where do you buy bathing suits to suit post partum boobs?  I'm quite certain my flimsy triangle tops will no longer fit the bill...

For serious. I was never brave enough to sport anything too daring, but now I plan to take LO to the pool all summer and have to find something I feel relatively confident in. No ideas where to start.
  • LO has been sleeping good then suddenly tonight she's up screaming in her crib. I have no idea what's going on and what to do :/
  • I wish I had ideas for you! We're in the same boat. Nothing seems to be working. It's awful and frustrating and sad all at once. Good luck to all of us!

    This is how I feel.

I am dying laughing. Hilarious and true.
  • Seriously though, I find bathing suit shopping best in small local stores. They help you out and aren't scrawny 20 year olds. I bought some suits when my first was six months and I'm still wearing them. I bought them with nursing in mind and controlling my tone-less body. One is a total mom suit - it's my last resort suit. But I like the other - a tankini with underwire and boy shorts.
  • Underwire and boy shorts are the things I usually look for. There are finally some cute one pieces out there too

  • I just bought a cute tankini from la vie en rose aqua, I love their stuff and it's great quality! You buy the pieces as separates so you can mix and match. I got my old suit there two years ago and I'm so sad that the top doesn't fit post baby, it's so cute and still in great condition.
  • I let LO gnaw on my half-eaten apple and he loved it! He was biting little chunks off.

This happened to us a few days ago! My teenage brother got one of his nerf footballs and was playing with LO- she bit off a chunk and he didn't even notice. I saw her chewing on it and got it out before she swallowed.

  • Im back!! I went to Atlanta for 3 days of training and of course my  bump ap wouldn't work for some reason. The sunshine and 60 degrees was awesome but I wound up getting sick and congested and the flight back really 'f'ed up my ears and now here I am at work with very little sleep and I just want to curl up in a ball and die. I was so happy to see DD this morning though!
