You know what I find disgusting about this thread. They fact that each and every one of us is a grown adult and the majority of the people cannot have a discussion without putting others down and bashing on one another. Grow up!
I don't see any bashing. I've only seen educated opinions (and non-educated opinions), but no bashing. I was actually quite impressed at the level of conversation and knowledge in this thread.
Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean they are "bashing."

Quite frankly, I don't care if you think I'm bashing you when your decisions are a risk to public health.
For Babies Under 6 Months of Age: If a baby’s mother has had her MMR shots and/or had measles infection in her life she passed antibodies to her baby during fetal development while in-utero and continues to pass them passively while breastfeeding. Those antibodies provide protection for young infants and typically are thought to protect infants for up to 6 months or more. The reason babies don’t get the MMR shot sooner than a year of age is because of the persistence of these maternal antibodies — if you put a vaccine in while maternal antibodies are still around the vaccine won’t stimulate the baby’s own immune system to respond, it will just get soaked up by the maternal antibodies doing their job.
So we should all make sure we vaccinate our children when it is recommended they be vaccinated (so around a year for MMR), so they can pass on the protection to their children!
Back in the 1800, 1900 different diseases wiped out and killed so many people, vaccines have HELPED ALMOST ELIMINATE THEM !!! But now we have people who are against vaccines, and the diseases are beginning to spread again, holy shit common SENCE ? LOL
Also when we were kids we got a total of about 10 vaccines. Now children get over 25 vaccinations before they are school age.
This is because science has advanced.
Idk understand how more is better if we are vaccinating for the same things.
We aren't just vaccinating for the same things. We are vaccinating for more things. And I would have to say that more is better if more vaccinations prevent more diseases.
Exactly, and if your child is vaccinated then quit bitching about other people not vaccinating their kids. Simple as that.
What do you not understand about immunocompromised people (ie. Cancer patients, pregnant women), or people who can't vaccinate due to other medical reasons? How can you not wrap your mind around that? Have you heard of cancer? It's pretty common.
Or your newborn infant that is soon to be born. These unvaccinated people are a threat to your child's health. Your child can die. Does that really not make sense to you?

Even vaccinated kids have younger sibling who are too young to vaccinate.. A vaccinated person can still be a carrier and not get sick ! Do some research people !!
Oh geez, really—maybe you should do the research. Your child is protected by maternal immunity up until a year of age. If you are vaccinated and your child is vaccinated your younger infant should be protected. I’m done with this thread. It’s bringing out the ugly side of pregnancy. Are you saying that pregnant women or cancer patients aren't vaccinated..I thought you believed in vaccinations? you seem all to eager to bash anyone with a different viewpoint than you. Good night!
Rikki_5, I dont think you understand how vaccinations work. Herd immunity is why theyre as good as they are. Every single person that doesnt get their shots lowers herd immunity. Which is why the recent outbreak of measles in Germany happened, and the one in Ontario/Quebec. That wouldve been muuuuch more contained if everyone had gotten their shots.

There are always children who are too young to be vaccinated. Or immunocompromised due to cancer treatments or other life threatening diseases.
It's so nice of you to allow those children's parents to worry about vaccine-preventable diseases like whooping cough, rubella, etc. on top of what they're already going through.
What's funny is in none of these posts have I said I AK NOT VACCINATING MY CHILD but thanks for your concern you also have no clue about my education experience or research on the fact.
You're spreading false, disproven information, which is just as dangerous, regardless of whether or not you vaccinate your child.
I will eagerly await the peer-reviewed articles that you've published on the topic.
The disrespect for ones beliefs in this group of girls is so disgusting. Everyone has rights to make their own decisions. This same science that everyone is soooooo in love with is the same science that just recently figured out that they have been wrong for at least the last decade resulting in more and more children with allergies to peanuts and other foods. Science is not always reliable. https://www.cnn.com/2015/02/24/health/peanut-allergy-prevention/
Geez, I never said I was anti-vax. I said I am vaccinating my children. What I don’t like is how everyone is personally attacking people on here..how childish and immature. You should be able to have an adult discussion without attacking someone and calling them a bitch. Furthermore, if you have cancer, I am sorry I never meant to contribute to your pain.

Some vaccines need to be boosted every so many years, I have no immunity for rubella or measles right now, Dr isn't sure if I missed the shot when I was younger or if it "ran" out, so if someone with rubella or measles comes in contact with me, my unborn and I could be at a serious risk !! And the shot isn't given during pregnancy !
Please enlighten me as to how this is a "personal choice" when your "personal choice" can have potentially life-threatening consequences for your children, your community, and anyone your children come in contact with, particularly the young, the elderly and the immuno-compromised?
Congratulations. Your "personal choice" just led to a national outbreak of a disease that was nearly eradicated.
BTW, the internet is just like the real world: people have the right to be dumbasses, and I have the right to be offended by it.

You are 110% correct !! Diseases that were nearly gone are coming back more and more !!!!

Except it's not your "own" decision. It effects other people, especially children, in a very big way! This would be a different conversation if we were talking about cord blood banking or breastfeeding or natural vs. medicated child birth. Your decision to not vaccinate does NOT only effect you or your child personally, and that is a PROVEN FACT.
I have a friend who has CF(cystic fibrosis) her brother passed away with it 2 years ago, she is very ill all the time, constant coughing, not able to gain weight, she always feels sick, if anyone sick is around her, she ends up hospitalized, losing weight, on oxygen, on antibiotics and Benadryl for allergies because she's allergic to the medication they have to give her, she is unable to be vaccinated, she had adverse reactions because of CF !

I loved reading everyone's comments on here. So much diversity - it's great.
I will vaccinate, and am a firm believer in vaccination. My eldest (now 9), was fully vaccinated but caught something which could have been prevented through other people's children being vaccinated too (confirmed by specialists, paediatricians and the like). Waking up to my baby girl, then 7 months, starting to go blue and being non responsive was the single most scary thing in my life. I wouldn't wish the fear on anyone else. We spent a considerable time in hospital, and she had ongoing medical issues from what made her unwell. She refused food (which if you saw the size of her at that age, you would be surprised), slept all day, and struggled to breathe. It was hard to watch. Having tubes hanging out of and off her everywhere was so scary.
Just a thought for those that Vax or have been vaxxed. Consider getting your titers done. See where you are at and what boosters you may need. Me and my guy had whooping cough boosters and asked our family to do the same (I live in an area with high rates of vaccination and whopping cough). People want to light the world up over small children not getting shots, but we need to hold ourselves as responsible. The VAX rates in the USA are theoretically enough to provide heard immunity.
@Danieym88 the thing I don't think you understand is that it ISN'T for yourself! Obviously I don't want to inject my baby with that stuff but for the sake of saving someone who is immunocompromised I am going to do. I am sure you would think a lot differently about vaccines if it was your child who was able to have the vaccine because they were immunocompromised. It ain't always about you kid.

Someone said I made a bitch move and was an ass. Maybe that's what she's referring to.
My husband is immunocompromised he is a kidney transplant patient and I have seen a stomach virus for which we have no vaccinations for put him in the hospital for days which heart attack potassium levels. I choose to vaccinate my children for their health but also for the health of my husband. I can't control what viruses my kids bring home for which we have no vaccinations for but for ones we do if I can control it I will. I received the flu shot for the first time this year and I did it to protect him more than me. I know I'll bounce back from a flu but for him it could be life threatening. There's never a guarantee with any immunizations but I'm much rather increase my odds of keeping my family safe and healthy.

I also believe this thread was to get the opinions of those who DID NOT or ARE NOT going to vaccinate their children. Not for those who think otherwise, and just want to bash others. This is a touchy subject and I believe @mommabear2410 was correct in naming this thread. She specifically stated what she was looking for. She IS doing her own research, but most importantly, she IS the momma! There is so much judgement in this thread. I am sorry @mommabear2410.
I am vaccinating my children. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that it is important and imperative to their health and the health of others around them.
I was unable to get the full series of Hep B because of my reaction to the first shot of the series. I do not blame the vaccine or it's ingredients. I had a lower immune system as a child due to a disease that I have. I still have a lower immune system than most but my disease has been under control for the last 5 years so it isn't as bad as when I was younger. I am vaccinating my children for their health and for the health of those who cannot receive vaccines.
I also don't believe the crap about vaccines being linked to autism. The "research" behind that is purely coincidental. Yes, autism diagnosis has risen and so has the amount of vaccines given. However, we are learning more about autism every day and the DSM has changed it's diagnostic procedure for autism (even in the latest DSM). The more information we have about ASD the more it is diagnosed (and even possibly over diagnosed). The fear mongering that occurs surrounding vaccines is sad. Do people have the right to choose to not vaccinate their children? Of course. I would just hope that the people making these decisions are getting their information from peer reviewed research instead of the latest celebrity trend or unsubstantiated headline.
Who has been nasty? No one. People are simply offering facts.

Ok, this has just gotten nasty. This thread needs to be removed. Anyone know how to go about that? I am still pretty new.
What part of this got nasty? Someone mentioning their husband had a kidney transplant? Someone else mentioning their child caught something from an unvaccinated person? Or the cystic fibrosis story? What was nasty? Someone posting scientific facts to disprove illogical poor choices that threaten our community?
The person who started with the name calling was 1stComesLove421 who called JoiaBot an ass, and was completely out of line.

The list of ingredients posted earlier states that most of those ingredients are removed before the vaccine is distributed. Hairspray and Mac and cheese from a box prob have more harmful chemicals
@ghostof5letters attacking anyone is nasty. You can't put thoughts or words in anyone's mouth. That has been happening since the thread started. @mommabear2410 specifically asked for those who are NOT vaccinating or haven't Vaccinated to reply, and even asked to keep comments positive. That is in the guidelines for this site people!!!!!!!!
Since you're not the one who created this thread, you don't know what she is looking for, what research she has done, and you obviously should know that you're not going to change her mind. There is a TON of bashing against people who chose or are choosing not to vaccinate.
Just because name calling, or swearing isn't in someone's reply doesn't mean there isn't belittling going on. That's a fact not an opinion.
