Re: No negative comments or bashing please!

  • I'm not doing the vitamin K and Hep B shot they give your baby not 2 seconds after he's born. I think that's jumping the gun a little. Polio, meningitis, and TDaP I'm doing just because I had them and I'm fine and they are very dangerous diseases. No flu shots though, every time I get one I get sicker than hell.

  • I've delayed with all of mine. If you're thinking of not ,know that finding pediatric care can be tough in today's climate. I've been " fired" for just not wanting to follow the schedule.
  • We do not vaccinate. I have 3 older ones,.ages 10,6 & 4. They do not get vaccinated, nor will the new baby.
  • I know all the reasons why you "should" be vaccinated that's why this post was geared towards hearing the opinions and reasoning why some people dont! Thank you
  • I think it's too much too soon. My first daughter was vaxxed on schedule and had some strange reactions and I had a hell of a time getting then taken seriously.

There are many reactions that can and do happen. And vaccine makers are immune from liability. I'm not anti drug\science, but I am weary of the idea that we are messing with functions we don't fully understand.

There is also mounting proof that vaccines are wearing off faster than predicted, which means more shots over a life time to maintain immunity. You'll find a lot of biased information out there, on both sides, but if you understand statistics, and don't mind sifting through a lot of propaganda and junk science you can get a more reasonable view than the US media is putting out there.
  • We pick and choose which to get and when.  The only vaccine our pediatrician has "strongly recommended" that we disagree on is the flu vaccine.  She is fine with our decision on everything else.  Doesn't agree, but doesn't push us, either.  (The flu one used to drive her crazy because she really wanted us to get that one, but we've come to an understanding.  I know she thinks it's necessary, she knows we won't get it.  We leave it at that).

    Married to J since 5/05, Mommy to T (10/08), L (08/10) and C (02/13) who was born at home.

  • If we don't get our children vaccinated, they aren't aloud in schools or daycares, because the put other children at risk ! I don't get the flu shot, it's the flu, unless your older or very young, it's not gonna have any lasting impact !
  • We vaccinate but at a slower schedule. Dd (and this one) will be all caught up by age 3 but her pediatrician does fewer shots at a time. I agree that the shots are important but I think giving such a little body so many shots at once is just too much.
  • I personally will be vaccinating but I don't really believe in "new" vaccinations like the H1N1, HPV, and yes, even the flu shot!  I don't trust something that hasn't been around for many many years without research of what happens 5 years after getting the shot.

I don’t like the idea of my newborn being vaccinated for Hep B before even leaving the hospital…I’m not anti-vaccinations I think they are important but think they should be given at an older age, like 2 or 3. But a bit worried how to raise this issue with the hospital? The hospital I am delivering at says it’s their policy.  Do you have to sign a consent to have the Hep B vaccination?

Just want to say that I got the HPV shots when I was 12-13 (now 23), as one of the first kids in my country. We decided to pay for it out of pocket because a few years prior, I nearly lost my mom to cervix cancer. I'm still looking healthy!
Obviously that isnt a big study, just me being my source, but a few years after the test runs I was a part of, all 12 year old girls in the country were getting them for free as an option. So far I'm unaware of any negative outcomes. They made me feel really sick for a few days after, but that wasnt really a big deal, just uncomfortable.

  • We vaccinated at a slower schedule. I was never anti vaccine, but holding my 6 week old 6 pound infant, and a tray of 3 huge needles in front of our doctor, I freaked out. We slowed it all way down, and did the shots one at a time.

  • My DS has had all vaccines except chicken pox. And he had the nasal spray flu shot. His pediatrician convinced me to this time. But for this LO, I'll be looking more closely at the schedules and possibly changing it up. I'll definitely delay chicken pox again and probably forgo the flu shot all together. There are way too many vaccines all at once when our kids are so little.
  • What is the Vitamin K shot for?

  • we will be vaccinating not only to protect this baby but any other baby or child that can't get vaccinated due to be too young or sick. I don't want my child being the reason another child dies. I read a story the other day about a newborn who died in Australia from whooping cough at 2 wks old all because someone didn't vaccinate and I nearly cried my eyes out for that family:( Nevermind the risk you are putting on your child. And just like MelMel92 this is my personal opinion:)

I come from a position of respecting both sides and am grieved to hear of stories like this, but equally grieved when I hear of (albeit rare) stories of children dying or being permanently injured from vaccines. A family friend (medical doctor) and his large family all had whooping cough despite being vaccinated for it.

OP, we delayed vaccines for DD initially, partly by choice and partly because we had no insurance coverage for them. The clinic we took her to couldn't fit her in until she was around 3-4 months old! It's crazy that for a country that pushes them so hard, it's so hard to get them! We decline a few vaccines for moral reasons, but the rest we do and for DS and future kids we will do those according to the normal schedule unless something prevents it. I'll admit that all vaccines make me nervous. Good luck to you as you try to make your decisions!
    It's a boy! Born 42 weeks, 2 days.

  • Vaccines actually prove some amazing science about our bodies! I will vaccinate on the big ones that have been around since I was a kid, spreading the schedule out. But I think like everything, the vaccine culture can get out of hand, vaccinating for everything and anything that could come on. I am thankful for vaccines but some of them aren't necessary.
  • Rikki_5: Vitamin K is produced in the human intestinal tract by flora and promotes clotting factors (so when you get a small cut it doesn't continue to bleed). Since an infant's intestinal tract is sterile at birth, it cannot produce vitamin K right away. That is why the vitamin K shot is given at birth, so a small cut doesn't put the baby in danger of possibly bleeding out.
  • I will opt to do a very delayed vax schedule. My older two kids received all vaccines recommended at the recommended times. I've witnessed life altering reactions coinciding with some vaccines. That in conjunction with my own research and help from various physicians and therapists who treat my kids have really altered my views on vaccinations. It's an unpopular opinion as I understand, and I usually keep my thoughts about it to myself, and just do what I feel is best for my kids. Feel free to PM me if you'd like a more detailed point of view.

  • Hep a and b are giving to reduce the child's possibility of coming into contact with it, hep b is super contagious and both hep a and b passed easily !!!!
  • My opinion!!!!!!

Okay, my DD is 16 months, never vaccinated and has never been sick. Read that again, 16 months and has NEVER been sick. All of my nieces and nephews on my side of the family have been, and are always constantly sick, and most of which have landed somewhere on the autism spectrum. I say for all of you to watch 'thegreatergood', before you go bashing.

I was vaccinated, and I didn't turn out fine. No I am not a rare case, I am an extremely common case! Do your own research before pointing fingers at who you feel is 'irresponsible'.

Again, my opinion is do your own research. Big Pharma is pretty stinkin' real guys.
  • Vit K is not a vaccination. It has to do with blood clotting. Google vit k evidence based birth for a compelling breakdown of its risk/benefit.
  • If you don't vaccinate your child, you child gets Ill with a disease and other children who have younger siblings that will be getting vaccinated in the future, but too young now suffer for it ... Your not just putting your own child at risk, the risks to vaccine are ALOT lower then to not vaccine !
  • My boys have been vaccinated on a delayed schedule and this one will be too. We do not do flu shots.
  • I won't be doing the flu shots this time around, and I'm not sure if I do the Hep B. When I had my son, I had him vaccinated for Hep B because at my job at the time, I worked in the home of a Hep B carrier, and my job included helping her with her laundry, cleaning her bathroom, etc. I just wanted to make sure he'd be safe in case of any contamination.

The flu shot just made my son sick last time he got it, and reportedly was ineffective this year anyway.

Otherwise, I plan on following The recommended vaccination schedule. Though vaccine injuries do happen, they're actually pretty rare, and I feel the risks of diseases like measles and polio are far greater.

  • Why do people choose to not vaccinate ? What are the benefits of it ? I don't understand why they would put their children's lives and other childrens lives at risk ?!
  • Ill be vaccinating as well...like @MelMel92 said about the whole school thing...to even attend my own schooling i have to bring my vaccination records!
