Re: Are you moms Vaccinating your baby?

  • Yes to Vaccination!!! My parents vaccinated my brothers and I and we have all been really healthy! My mom on the other hand was never given vaccines and she is always sick!!!! She blames her mom for not vaccinating her as a child!

I think you need to educate yourself on the information out there. Read research articles, but even before that you need to learn how to correctly read a research article. My decision is not based on one article. Many parents believe themselves to be educated but really haven't read more than a handful of articles. We will be vaccinating but on a delayed schedule.
  • I plan on vaccinating, but I need to speak with my OB about it because DH is allergic to eggs and there are a few shots that contain egg proteins (he cannot have the flu shot). Although I don't think newborns receive a flu shot? So this is something we will have to discuss.

I am vaccinating my new son just like I did my older son. And I personally saw a very similar news story on ABC world news a while ago that seemed to be promoting the vaccinations can cause autism argument also. It isn't just Fox that is spreading this nonsense. All the news sources jump on these types of claims in order to gain viewers. All news stations sensationalize the news to gain viewers!! :)
  • As a professional who has worked with children and young adults with autism spectrum disorders, I have heard parents say everything from microwaves to vaccinations cause autism. However, no valid research has shown this to be true. As for me my daughter has all of her vaccinations and so will my other baby, but that's for you to decide if it's what you want. Just a word of caution, one of the schools in my area had a measles outbreak and all kids who were not vaccinated were sent home for 21 days.
  • I will definitely be vaccinating my daughter. The risk of her "getting" autism is much better than her getting polio. Some illnesses they vaccinate against could be deadly. Even if you believe that kids could develop autism from the vaccines, that should outweigh the fact that your baby might die from illnesses you could've prevented with a shot. That's my opinion. Obviously the baby is yours and you get to decide but think about the risks of also not vaccinating.
  • I will absolutely be vaccinating my child
  • I will be vaccinating. Although I do feel that some vaccinations are counter-productive I am not going to go into that because it's a very personal matter. Why is it only autism that people seem to fear though? I would be more concerned about some so called "auto-immunity" disorders over autism being caused by vaccines.
  • We are absolutely vaccinating. Vaccines exist for a reason, and the alarmist anti-vaccine rhetoric going around is really worrying to me. We are one of the first generations in the history of the world where masses of children HAVEN'T died from horrible diseases, and I think we have a very short memory as a culture as to how bad those diseases really were.

As far as autism is concerned, my own brother is on the autism spectrum and vaccines DID NOT make him that way. He has been who he is since the day he was born. Also, autism is not a death sentence!!!! Does my brother have difficulty maintaining personal relationships? Yes. Is he "different" than other people? Yes. But he is a caring person in his way, he has a job he likes in a place he likes, and he loves his family, even if he was never an emotionally affectionate kid. If my son turns out to be on the spectrum just like my brother is, I would be honored to have him as my son.
  • I watched FOX news a few weeks ago where anchor and talk show host Megyn Kelly was totally FOR vaccinations... so at least there's a little variety on the network. :)

Does she know that she can and should get her vaccinations now as an adult?

  • We are vaccinating our baby and requiring anyone that is around a lot of people to be vaccinated against whooping cough.

Just so you know the study that originally linked vaccinations to autism was proven to be false. The author made up the data.
  • Yes I am vaccinating. Duh

  • I did extensive research for a paper in college about this topic.

Plain and simple, for my DH, myself and my children... we will vaccinate and get boosters etc.

I have friends and family who choose not to, and that's fine. Do as you please for yourself, and don't let someone else decide for you.
however, I have a close friend, who vax's their kids, but is kinda lazy about it and her youngest two are really behind on them, sooo, sorry not sorry, I won't be allowing my newborn to be around them until they are fully caught up. I have to protect my baby. I am only responsible for  MY baby.

    It's your choice.

I love that you said you would be honored! I bet your brother is a great guy, and he is honored to have a sister like you!
  • I work in an ER where we frequently see children who are sick with preventable illnesses if their parents had chosen to get them vaccinated. They didn't want to prevent the illness in the first place, but want us to fix their children when they do get very very sick. Vaccines have NOT been linked to autism and even so, I'd rather have my child have autism than to see her suffer through or die from a horrible disease that is preventable. It's unfortunate that we truly do live in a culture now where people care more about gluten and carbs than about measles and pertussis...
  • Look, My friends DID NOT VACCINATE. Then the one thing they were trying to avoid happened...Their daughter had Autism. So, no shots, and STILL AUTISTIC..No brainer..Vaccinate!

Deff vaccinating. Didn't that dumb blonde Jenny McCarthy say her son got autism from vaccines and her son didn't even have autism. Lol I think all these ladies are right. Getting sick and having a big chance of dying and getting other innocent children sick is not worth it.
  • Of course I'm vaccinating my baby! I did it with my first born and will do it again.
