Preterm Labor

I've been in the L&D Ward (with the best husband, best doctor and best nurses ever) for preterm labor. They've had me on iv meds for contractions, and steroid injections to mature baby's lungs for the past 48 hours. Moving forward, I will be going on light duty at work, and rest when home. I'm taking medication to stop contractions every 6 hours. And I will get a weekly progesterone shot. Hopefully this little guy can hold out and keep on cooking a little longer. My due date is still 10 weeks out. Prayers please! ♡♡

I had a FFN test come back positive. I had no other symptoms.

I was having cramping in evenly spaced intervals. I went to bed hoping it was gas. The cramps were about twenty minutes apart At that time. I woke up to contractions every 10 minutes. By the time I got to the hospital, they were 3 minutes apart.

No dilation and no contractions for me thankfully. I have a shortened cervix and debris "sludge" at the cervix which are both preterm labor indicators apparently.
  • Fx for you and easier upcoming weeks!
  • I too am dealing with this. We were admitted Thursday morning and am still here. I am 30 weeks as well. I will be on bed rest for 5 weeks. Please keep us posted.

Same boat. I got out of the hospital last week. I went into preterm labor at 24 weeks. I was given shots and mag. Now I'm on procardia. I was dilated 2cm and my bag of water was huge. I have polyhydramnios. I'm home now and hanging in there. The amniotic fluid has improved, but I contract all the time. I'm 31 weeks. Fetal fibronectin was positive and I have bouts of regular contractions that are as little as two minutes apart with meunstal like cramps and lower back pain.
  • Prayers your way! I was in L&D today. Last night my urine had blood in it and found out today I have a uti/kidney infection which caused me to have pre term contractions today that they caught on monitor. Will be starting antibiotics tomorrow. But I'm already at risk for preterm because my previous pregnancy my daughter was born at 26 weeks. Anybody have a uti or type of infection to cause pre term contractions?
  • Definitely keeping you preterm labor mamas in my prayers. I really hope those babies can stay in at least until April. Your anxiety must be so high! Hang in there.

No infection. Just wayyy overworked. 14 hours in a single day running around a short staffed Pharmacy on the first Monday of the month. Sometimes, labor is triggered, sometimes not. All you can do once it starts is "try" to stay "calm and relaxed", take your meds as directed, hydrate, and follow Dr's orders. For the record, staying calm and relaxing are not working out all that well for me. I am scared as heck!

  • I'm at 29 weeks & 4 days and at risk for pre-term labor too. Have been sent to L&D triage three times in last three weeks due to shortened cervix and contractions. Doctor put me on IVs and stated that contractions could be due to being dehydrated. The IVs seemed to help but no help to my ever shortening cervix unfortunately. Doctor calls it "dynamic cervix" because the length range is ever changing. Was put on bed rest at 27 weeks and now it looks like I'm being admitted to the hospital for at least a few days (but could be weeks). Today I got my second steroid shot to develop baby's lungs just in case. This is my first baby and I am pretty freaked out. All I want to do is cry. Can't sleep in the hospital and tonight my husband wasn't able to stay with me due to work. Guess I am just looking for some support, success stories and the simple knowledge that others are in similar situations and how you all are handling it. Never expected my pregnancy to go this way as I literately had no problems at all up until this point :-(
  • Sorry to hear that Hun! Hoping that your cervix stops shortening and that LO will stay in longer to cook! It sound like your doctor is on top of things and being cautious which is good. There have a few other ladies in my FB group have delivered between 28-31 weeks and they are doing great! Babies are all doing well. Of course we want outer babies to stay in as long as possible. As hard as it is trying thinking good positive thoughts and just breath. It's rough the uncertainty and being afraid is totally normal. I am bed rest due to dilating and contractions. I just received my 2nd steroid shot yesterday. I am hoping me baby stays in at least another 4-6 weeks. I am just trying to relax as much as possible. It's hard though. Prayers to you and your baby! Fingers crossed baby will decide to bake longer!

  • @blankenbakerh thank you so much for your reply! Definitely eases my anxiety hearing about people who have delivered in this time frame and are doing well. I am trying to think strong cervical and positive thoughts! How did you react to the second steroid shot? I had a weird reaction (felt like I couldn't breathe and heart rate shot up, now my nose is bleeding- not sure if that's from the shot or simply cuz I let out a good preggo cry this am that I was holding in). I am hoping for at least 4-6 weeks more as well but would love to keep baby girl in for as long as possible. Crossing my fingers for you as well! Hopefully our bodies will cooperate and let these babies cook :-) thanks again!
  • I didn't have any kind of reaction to either steroid shot. Maybe you just had an anxiety attack, which is totally understandable given the situation. If you are concerned though I would I would call the OB as a precaution. Are you feeling better now? If not then I would definitely call.

  • My nephew was born nine weeks early due to pre-eclampsia. My SIL got a steroid shot to help the lungs a few hours before he was born and he did not need help breathing when he was born. So trust the shot. He is now a healthy five year old. I just hope those babies keep on cooking for a little longer so you mommas don't have the stress. Good luck to you all.
