Trying to Get Pregnant

Newbie

Hi. I'm new. I will most likely be reading 90% of the time, but wanted to say hello.

Here is a question to kick off my membership to this forum, though:

When charting temp, can I use an ear thermometer? Does it even matter as long as I'm consistent? Am I an idiot (oh, God, please don't answer this question)?

Thanks for reading. And from what I've read so far, the first rule in Fight Club is *actually* to not ask if you're in Fight Club. Got it!

Re: Newbie

  • I've never temp but I would assume it would be fine as long as consistent. Good luck to you. :)

If only there were some kind of, I don't know, Newbie Blog posted to the front page of this forum...  I bet it would have all sorts of useful info like this in it!!

    No one needs sarcasm.

  • I agree that no one needs misinformation. I don't think ignorance is on purpose tho.

  • You should really get at least a regular thermometer, if not a BBT. There are plenty to choose from and most are cheap.

I do. I thrive on it. Only reason I still have a screen name here.

So the only reason you still hang around here is to watch other people get talked to rudely? I wonder what kind of insecurities makes it fun to watch others suffer.
  • Agreed. I'm already there, I just like to check in here, but that looks like it will change!
  • I'm not suffering. Other people might be. I get it about not sugar coating things and telling things like they are but to be rudely sarcastic is different in my eyes.
  • Well I guess if someone didn't want to read a post asking questions, that they feel had been asked before, perhaps they would skip the one titled"newbie" as opposed to reading and giving an a*****e comment.... Just saying

    **lurking**

Why would you be scared to post? These are some of the most amazing women that go above and beyond to help answer questions and give great advice!! I've seen posts where they've helped newbies interpret temp charts as well as offered all the support in the world to newbies who have concerns but aren't asking asinine questions.
  • It's sad what they've done. funny that she's just getting started here as everyone's leaving.

Was the "***lurking***" to correct her?

Nope, put there because I'm a lurker. A friend of mine is TTC so I keep up with this board to see if she joined.

  • Welcome! I was on here in 2013 and it was ridiculous how much time was spent attacking the newbies. I am so glad they are finally doing something about it. There will be plenty of people on here for a community. Im glad to be back! Hope this will be a more positive place.

  • Guess it just depends on what people are trying to get out of being on here. I made some good friends also. But there were plenty who NEVER posted unless it was to put others down. Trolling for drama.

  • It is nice to get opinions from all sides of the table. Hopefully there will more of that rather than the other junk. And yes I agree about the I think I'm pregnant posts. They should really just make a board for that.

  • Newbies like me wouldn't know what is asinine to you guys.
I am glad I lurked first because I see how the asinine questions are answered.
We have to be pros at temping and charting and have no business posting here unless we know all these things or get assaulted with "snark" and intelligence insulted.
I'm sorry but that is what it looks like to a noob.

There is no need to be a pro, and being new and getting your questions answered is what this board is for. Asking if you are pregnant based on certain symptoms etc doesn't fly. As long as you are putting in more effort than using a period tracker, having a good idea about when you actually ovulated, based on opk's, or temping is a great start! Get yourself a bbt thermometer. I paid like 12 bucks for mine at the drug store. They are worth it to get your temperature broken down into small enough increments that you can see the changes. This is my first month temping and have had a lot of questions along the way to which I received great advice. (And the newbie blog mentioned doesn't exist anymore. It went when they banned a lot of the users, which is unfortunate as both the blog and those ladies held a lot of useful info). I wish you the best of luck on your ttc journey Edited for bad wording

I was going to post an honest answer (which is to NOT use an ear thermometer - five seconds of research would confirm that you need an oral thermometer), but since someone feels that actual knowledge is useless and those of us that knew it were "mean" then I'm turned right off from offering more knowledge. I wouldn't want to offend such a speshul sneauflayke.
