Girl "J" names

Right now we have a different name in mind if we have a girl, but I'm curious as to what other options are out there other than what we have picked out( Delilah ). My name and DH's name both begin with J.  If we have a son, his name will also begin with a J....so I thought it'd be neat and totally cheesy if we were just all J's! lol.  The middle name is going to be Sue, so they have to go together and I'm not real fond of the more common names like Jennifer, Julie, Juliette, Jan...I thought of Jaycee last night, but DH was on the fence....he is hell bent on Delilah, but I want to make sure we explore all the options we can before just going with that one.  Not that I don't love it, it's just...options are nice.

Any ideas on some different, unique, classy names beginning with J? :)

  • Delilah is great.

Jaycee is a hot mess. It is a made up name that sounds like a forever 3 year old.

Personally I would avoid all J names because I wouldn't want to be lumped with the Duggars or the Kardashians.

But here are some legit J names that are not popular

    Jacqueline
    Jane
    Jolene
    Johanna
    Jocelyn
    Juniper nn June
    Juno
    Jenna
    Josefina

  • Like Delilah...dislike Jaycee

    Josephine
    Jane
    Juliet
    Julianne
    Jolie
    Jemma
    Jessa
    Jacqueline
    Jade
    Janelle
    Jasmine
    Jillian
    Jocelyn
    Julia
  • Like PP stated, Jaycee sounds like a trendy made-up name. If you're already doing the "all J names" thing (which, as you stated, can be cheesy but can also be cute) I would make sure the names you choose are more classic.

June, Jade, Jana, Jenna, Joanna, Johanna, Jessa, Jillian, Juniper, Josephine, Jeana, Jane, Julia, Jolie

Everyone has suggested nice J names, but I think purposely doing the J thing is silly.......and kinda cultish.

    That's nice. :)
  • Thank you everyone! :)
  • I like Joan and Josephine.

I wouldn't get roped into using a J name for a daughter because you might never have a son and then you've got all these daughters with J names that were picked just to fit a theme rather than something you loved, kwim?

Delilah is far superior to Jaycee which is juvenile and not at all attractive IMO. Does it have to be plain Sue? Could you do a variant and still honor your namesake? Something like Delilah Suzette would be very pretty.

  • I love Delilah! Stick with that.
  • Please don't use Jaycee. I don't care for Delilah. I like the sound of it but I immediately think of Delilah in the Bible so that is why I don't like it, but Delilah is a million times better than Jaycee. You've already been given many suggestions. I don't have any more to add. Are there any other J names you like other than Jaycee?

@tdenen - I too like Jaycee. If people did research, and not that I expect them to, they'd know its of Greek & American origins....and certainly not made up. :P Thanks for the suggestions, I agree J names are hard for girls!!

According to BTN it is not a name. Sure some random site may say otherwise but it doesn't have true history as a name.

    LOL.

Point made, BTN says it's not a name, so clearly, it is not a name.

My name doesn't come on any keychains or pens so it's likely not a real name, either.  =))  Because, obv...

@MamaBish - I do like the name Jillian. I had a very close friend with that name when I was younger who, unfortunately, passed away and I have always been partial to that name.

Behind the name is far more reliable than sheknows.com or yahoo or sevenreflections.com or ohbabynames.com. That's just a fact. I prefer reliable sources when researching names but hey whatever floats your boat

Oh, yes darling. Of course. So since I didn't use YOUR reliable source, I did not use a reliable source what-so-ever, because you just know these things, and of course, the internet is always right, and the internet knows everything...how could I forget?

My sincerest apologies, I didn't realize I had to care about how I look to a few internet strangers who are making a big deal over a NAME that has nothing to do with said internet strangers.

    Edited because typing is hard.

  • Jaycee makes me think "Dugard". (Not Duggar) and yes, it sounds made up and cutesy. If you like the sound maybe go with JC initials.

You are considering Jaycee a made up juvenile name over Delilah a legit name with history. You posted asking opinions and are getting them. Personally I would want to know if a name I was considering was considered teen momish. People in real life will have the same impression as internet strangers. Take it as you will

Oh, good thing I only consult internet strangers for fun to pass the time during a slow day at work. :P Also, If you read the OP it states that I'm looking for other J names - just for options, not for your opinion of a name I said, like your suggestion. But because internet strangers can do whatever they want, I'm not rebutting your opinion of the name because I quite frankly, don't give a damn what you think of it.

Funny since you asked for opinions on a public forum.  People will give opinions on names people post.  You got a lot of suggestions for J names as well as people telling you it was cheesy to use all J names.  You are the one who stated Jaycee was legit if people researched.  I simply was asking for a source because the pretty much most well known name source behindthename states it's not legit.

  • You apparently cannot make out the different between the words OPTIONS and OPINIONS.

Nowhere in my OP did I ask for OPINIONS. I asked for OPTIONS.

And again, since we are on a public forum, I expect OPINIONS anyway, and that is completely acceptable, because I realize that not everyone is going to think the same thing.

Your opinion of what is a legitimate resource and what isn't, isn't really a concern to me. Because I don't have a world wide web address for you to troll on to see if my resource is up to your standards, does not mean it is not. Have you ever heard of a book or visited a library? Those are also legitimate resources....

It's a name, I'm not sure why you are so stuck on if it's "real" or not. It's the name of quite a few human beings on this earth, so I'd say it's pretty real. What your opinion on it is irrelevant to me.

I'm not sure if you're one of the ones that got the ban-hammer slammed down on you in January and managed to come back under a new name, or if you've seriously been here for a minute and think you're king-shit...but get off your high horse. I'm done here.

  • Josie
    Jondal
    Jersey/Jerzie
    Jean

However, I love Delilah, but it makes me think of the annoying lady on the syndicated radio show at night. Lol
  • Jade. June. Jessica. Jolene. Josephine. Jill. Jillian. Justine.

You could always look up the Duggars... Lots of J names.
  • My 10 yr old sister's name is Jazlyn. We call her Jazzy. If she ended up being a boy I would have used the name myself

So this is the kind that are taking over tb? I guess I'll leave too. This board used to be a community of respectable and educated people who were blunt and honest= awesome. When people like ipumpkin came here with names like jaycee, they either learned better or left. BTN was/is the commonly trusted resource because most if not all other baby name websites can be edited by random users. I could go and add Jaqusyynnn as a girl's name and anyone who came along is going to believe that it's a legit name? And while I'm a huge fan of libraries and books as resources, please be aware that anyone can write a book as well, and most of the baby name books I've seen are just a compilation of every conceivable name that the author could round up; and if it didn't have an origin or meaning before, the author made it up. If you can tell us of a new resource that is as reliable as BTN, that we all can access and reference, great. Pp was showing you respect by assuming that you had a legit resource, but you refusing to cite your resource, makes your resource BS!
