Had my 20 week ultrasound yesterday and I wanted to find out the sex of our baby. My husband is completely against finding out; The doctor had to quickly look for me while my husband kept his eyes closed. Baby had its legs closed together, and our doctor kept trying to get the baby to move. He mouthed "boy", but I couldn't see it at all. With my last pregnancy it was so easy to see that he was a boy. I asked the doctor to please look again and he did, and said "pretty sure"... what does that mean? It looked like nothing to me. I don't know if maybe I'm just in denial and hoping he is wrong because I really want a girl, or if there is a chance he is wrong? With my son, he said he was 90% sure it was a boy. Any thoughts? I will be happy for a healthy baby either way, but am I a bad person for wanting him to be wrong?
Re: 20 week ultrasound wrong?
There's always a chance they could be wrong. If you're at worried pay for an elective ultrasound. Otherwise trust your doctor.
You could always pay at a boutique if you want to double check. There is always a chance that the doctor is wrong-- but I highly doubt it.
What troubles you about having a boy?

I don't really understand that particular dynamic because my all-boy cousins (and my twin brother) bummed with me (the only girl in the family) just fine. I climbed trees & played capture the flag etc. I had girlfriends but I never had the feeling the boys in my family excluded me. I'm sorry if your daughter feels excluded.
Perhaps this is an opportunity to work on the group dynamic? There is no guarantee a sister would be a built in playmate either, truthfully. That's a lot of pressure/weight to put on a baby.
It's ok, IMHO, to desire one sex over the other, but this particular reason seems odd to me. None the less, I'm sorry if it bums you out. Maybe the new brother will love hanging out with his sister & including her. His sex doesn't determine how he will treat her.
My son adores his sister & loves to play with her. I don't know how/if that will change as he gets older, but so far they are BFFs.

Money shot, money shot, money shot.
MOST people when they get pointed out to them a phrase is inappropriate, thank the person for letting them know and remove it from their vocabulary. Not act like a 5 year old and continue using it looking foolish
So, money shot isn't always a dirty term. I stand by my usage.
So a shot of a penis/vagina is what is most important? Gotcha.

With one girl there shouldn't be this big competition. My sil and her sis literally are having a race to see who can get pregnant 1st, they had to out do eachothers weddings, and engagement rings. That wasn't an issue for me and my bros.
I'm sorry, I have an awesome sense of humor. This-- this is not at all humorous. Can you please, explain it to me like I'm five? Because I don't see something like that used to describe a baby's parts at all funny.
It's not a cutsie term like preggo or totes-- I can't believe we are being labeled as sticks in the mud for not joking about porno terms & ultrasounds. Words matter, man.

Well that speaks volumes. And it's pretty shitty that, going by your definition, your child's genitals were the most important part of the anatomy scan. I must have missed at memo while making sure my baby had all her vital organs and was growing properly. Silly me.

I do believe that for many women, seeing whether baby is a boy or girl, is a pretty huge deal. Of course everyone wants their baby healthy, but the bonus is seeing the money shot - the picture of what's between the legs.
Sex. Sex. Sex. You can't tell gender from an ultrasound.
This.
When I hear money shot I, i think of a prize winning photo. Or someone scoring a point in sports. Different strokes for different folks. I would like to emphasize it was not @tinktink20 that mentioned porn in the first place.

"Money shot" in reference to a penis or vulva is most certainly pornographic. Because it is. Add to this that you are talking about a baby. Is this real life? Like, there are really people out there that would argue that this nonsense is completely ok? /:) [-(

I'm not a sicko because I pointed out that the term is pornographic. I am just aware.

Oh my get over yourself. Right now the gender of my baby is a boy and if he decides when he's older that He would like to be the opposite gender then he can and I'd be okay with that. . But as of right now, his gender is a boy. Thats all that needs to be said. I've seen previous replies from you correcting other women for using that term . Do what's best for you. You don't need to be correcting others. That's not even the point of this thread.
