I should preface this by saying I'm not judging anyone's name choices:
I have a "unique" name. It isn't difficult to pronounce or difficult to spell, but people still get it wrong CONSTANTLY. My relatives couldn't spell it properly on my Christmas presents until I was in middle school. Twice in the past year, I have run into acquaintances I haven't seen in a while and they have actually forgotten how my name is pronounced. I have had to correct every teacher who has ever read my name from an attendance list on the first day of class, usually over the course of several days. There is one guy at work who always spells my name wrong in emails and I want to push him down the stairs.
It sucks. My parents worked so hard to give me a beautiful, special name, and I have spent the last 29 years hating it! I truly think that if you can't learn how to spell or pronounce someone's name properly, you are lazy and you need to work on yourself, but I also wish I'd been named "Jane" or something. So before you go for that unique name, remember that not everyone will think your kid is as special as you do and they may have to spend the rest of their lives correcting people! Or not correcting them and hating them silently.
Sorry you have had to deal with this your entire life. FYI.. forgetting a pronunciation =/= laziness.
If your relatives couldn't get your name right until you were in middle school, then I think you're being a bit harsh that someone you haven't seen in years has trouble. I have a basic name that is misprounced as well. Correct people kindly, but "hating them silently" is going a bit far. I find it a bit odd that you blame everyone else and that they need to "work on themselves" when it is a common problem you have encountered throughout your life. Seems to me that the name itself is the common denominator.
I absolutely agree that parents should rethink Youneek names. It's the child that suffers.
I wish I loved my name. But it just makes me sad. And it is a legit name with a pedigree and a real meaning and everything!
What is it?
If I tell you, I'll spend the rest of my time here paranoid that I'm giving away enough details to be identified. The world is big but my industry is small!
I will tell you a funny story though: I took a sign language class in college, and the professor had the same name. But because it was a sign language class, she never spoke once during the entire semester, so I never learned how she pronounces it!

I promise, it is not a hard name, and people who actually care to learn it get it right away! The problem with my relatives was that they never learned how to spell it, and never asked. They started getting it right as soon as I talked to them about it. I am saying that it is in part my parents' fault for choosing the name and in part the fault of people who don't think I'm important enough to learn how to say or spell my name right.
When I meet a new person and they tell me their name, I do my best to
learn it right away, even if it is a little difficult. I think that it's
not asking much of other people for them to do the same.
And "silently hating" was hyperbole. I am a pretty decent person, and I don't actually hate people for simple carelessness.
Well I really like Malcom but my mother and mother-in-law don't care fore it. Christopher is a maybe. My husband is all for Bruce (mostly because if it's a boy the middle name has be Wayne (family thing) but I don't know if I want our kid to be Batman.
If it's a girl possibly Liliana, Ellie, Emily and I'm trying to talk him into Elouise but no luck lol.
And yes @beefcurtin now that you mention it it does sound like a steak lol.
Go with Batman. Batman is awesome. If he lives up to his namesake, he will be the most badass billionaire ever.
I like Quinn or Harper for a girl. No idea for boy names but my fiancée wants Wallace for the middle name, and I'm not too crazy about it. I can't think of anything good to go with it.
Harper is a great name. Did you hear that Harper Lee is publishing a second book? Finally!
Rylynn, Kendyl, Melynnda are names DH and I both like for a girl.
Myles, Dyllan, and Axyl are names we both like for a boy.
You really like Y's, huh? Is there any specific reason?
I think they're pretty in signatures, and I have a Y in my name and DH has an L so we thought it would be cute to use them in baby's name :-)
You know there are plenty of names spelled traditionally with Y's in them, right?
There are? Like what? DH and I only just started our list, and we weren't looking very hard. Maybe it would be better to use something more traditional, I wouldn't want baby to be made fun of because of their name... :-S
Baby #1 on the way due 10-4-15! Married to my honey since 6-11-11

I actually didn't but that's awesome! When is it coming out?
Please don't spell your baby's name wrong on purpose!!!! My name is Katlynn and ugh it's so embarrassing when you have to spell it out, people look at me like I am an idiot! And no my mom was not a teen mom she was 20 when she had me, she just didn't know how to spell Caitlin/Kaitlin so made something up. At least I can go by Kat or Katie! So if you use a crazy name make sure there is a normal nickname your baby can use!
Personally I tend to like old fashioned names so I like Edith, Agnes, Winifred, Matilda for a girl. Haven't really thought about boy names because they're not as fun! Besides I have a feeling this baby is a girl anyway!

Our 7 year old daughter is Scarlett Rose. If this is a boy, we are pretty set on Whittaker Aaron. If it is a girl, we like Seraphina (Sera), but aren't 100% on it.

I looooove Edith! That was on my list but couldn't get DH on board

I just read your name as Mamas Now White. Then I realized what it actually said. Ha, I got a good laugh!!

*sighs*
Don't do it. I'm starting to think we have another troll.
For a boy, I like it. It's far better than some other suggestions I've seen.
For a girl, don't do it.

Love it. I dated a guy in college whose last name was Fitzgerald but everyone called him Fitz. I think it's neat

No lie. I swear to god.
