Just had my first one today. Measuring right on time at 8w6d. Heart rate 161 bpm. My little bean was squirming all around the tech had a hard time getting a good picture. It was a transabdominal one. Also, I learned I have a tilited uterus
It's so interesting how different everyone's docs are! I've been in for the initial exam & nurse appt, and am FINALLY going for an ultrasound Friday when I will be 10 weeks!!! Can't wait to hear the heartbeat and see this sweet pea! I know in my docs office, they have an ultrasound tech downstairs. I've had them before (for a cyst) and I know that the techs can't discuss what they see. But... I should be able to see a baby form by now, and they can help me hear the heartbeat.... Right?!?!
Had my first one yesterday at 6w....didn't realize that I had been so nervous until I finally saw our little one on the screen and breathed a high sigh of relief. The tech I had was wonderful and explained everything we were seeing and what she was looking for. Next one won't be until 12w....hard to wait that long! Lol
I had my OBGYN appointment today and I didn't even expect to get a US on my first day. (So my husband didn't come ) but I did! And there is a baby and its big and the heart beats at 174 and I cried lol.
We just had our first US on Friday. LMP date was Nov 21 so doc thought we were close to 10wks but that didn't really line up with other dates of "activity" when hubby was last home. *ahem* So he and I were thinking closer to 8 weeks. We measured 8w3d. Lol! Score one for the Mama! HR was 161 bpm. September 8 is EDD.
I'm considering finding a new doc because they don't want to let me have an ultrasound until 12 weeks, I'm 8 weeks and haven't even got to hear the baby's heart beat yet. Has this happened to anyone else?
Oh and we did all the bloodwork, pap, physical etc and all is fine, but I still think 12 weeks is a little late to hear heartbeat for the first time...
I'm 7 weeks exactly and my first appt is tomorrow. I have a 5 year old and a 4 year old, but I can't remember what happens during the first visit and I'm freaking!

Unless you are unsure of your dates or are having problem, this seems totally normal. Every Dr. varies, and unless you just really want to have an u/s, there is no reason to expect one before 12 weeks when they would start looking for Down's characteristics, and they will check the hb and growth at this time. A lot of people I know only have had 2 u/s during their pregnancies because they have had no problems or complications. The only reason I had earlier u/s during my 1st pregnancy is because I had severe bleeding and my Dr wasn't sure if I was m/c-ing. And then I had them later in that pregnancy because I was leaking amniotic fluid. My first appt is next week at 9 weeks and I don't think they are doing an u/s yet. I know its hard to wait, and it seems like other people get to see their babies earlier, they may have had past complications that need to be monitored, or maybe they were off on their dates. So I wouldn't worry, your Dr. seems very normal! Hope this helps!
I had my first appointed today and the doc did an ultrasound so we got to see the baby and hear it's heart beat! It even moved around and kicked it's tiny legs while we watched! What an absolutely amazing experience! They also did blood work, urine test and lots of paperwork/questions. It took close to 2 hours. We thought we were at exactly 10 weeks today based on LMP and the baby measured at 10w1d so technically an August 31st due date! Oh and the heart beat was at 170 bpm! Amazing!!!

The techs can show you the baby, and show you the hb, but they can't tell you any MEDICAL information about your baby. Like if they see a problem or something, that they can't help you with, that must come from a Dr, but as far as pointing out the head and limbs and such, they can definitely help you navigate that!
@hrossi253: thanks for the info! All my cousins and friends who recently had babies all had the heartbeat checked at every appointment from 6 weeks forward, so I just totally felt like my doc was not very concerned about it. But you're right, I'm very healthy and have had no health problems in the past so maybe 12 week ultrasound is normal. I'm just nervous and want to make sure the baby has a strong little heartbeat going in there. Thanks again! I appreciate you taking the time to comment :-)
Just had mine yesterday. 7wks 2days. Saw fluttering and was luckily able to hear the heartbeat. About 150bpm. I knew I was pregnant, but it never felt real. After seeing and hearing the heartbeat, it definitely feels real.
Had my second sonogram yesterday at 9 weeks and 2 days. Baby looked like a fuzzy little peanut! Heart was beating at 168 bpm. It was a beautiful experience.
I go for my first ultrasound in 11 days and I'll be 9 weeks by then. I am so excited and nervous all at the same time. I've been having some bad dreams lately after reading a bunch of horror stories online. But I know there is nothing I can do but sit back and wait. Stressing myself out over something I can't control won't make anything any easier. I'm just going to enjoy the guilt free naps come on February 16th!!
I had my first one at 6w6d and measured on target, with a HR of 136! Next appt is on Tuesday, and we'll be 9w6d -- can't wait to see my peanut again!!!
I have my second ultrasound tomorrow and very nervous. I was 5 weeks last time and there was a gestational sac, so praying that there is a baby in there tomorrow. I did have a miscarriage 2 years ago and recently was put on clomid. I just don't feel pregnant and that worries me.
Went to the dr yesterday. 8wks and 4 days along. He doesn't do first US until 20 weeks, unless something seems wrong. All of my bloodwork came back normal, except he said I WILL become anemic later in the pregnancy. I was pretty bummed about no US, but very happy that othetwise, I got a healthy report!
Oh how i can't wait till Monday..i will get to see my bundle of joy...and all the other good stuff that comes with it..EDD is 9/26 going off my last LMP..but will know for sure on Monday when I have my first ultrasound I'm so excited but nervous at the same time..this is going to be a long summer for all of us but exciting and I can't wait.
Had my first ultrasound today they did both types as well. I got to see the sac and my baby's fluttering heart beat! I am 6weeks and 3 days earlier than I expected considering my last menstural cycle was December 14 but all is well. I have my next ultrasound on Feb 23rd and I will be 9 weeks exactly!
First US today. Did both types. Baby measured 5 days earlier than estimate at 6w 2d. Heart beat at 112. New due date Sept 29. This so real now!!!
Yay! I have minimal symptoms too so I was scrolling through to see how your u/s went, glad it went well!!! Mine is tomorrow! I think I'll be 7 weeks 2 days!

You don't have to feel pregnant to be pregnant. Symptoms sometimes don't kick in until 8 or 9 weeks girlfriend . Keep hope!
I have my first one this Wednesday. I'll be 7 weeks and 5 days. I'm mainly getting it to ease my mind since we lost our last one. So ready and praying to see a strong heartbeat!
