August 2015 Moms

Tell us about your baby names!

So, my SIL just had a son about 10 days ago. She admittedly put off picking out baby names and ended up naming him Brecken Daniel just before leaving the hospital.

With so many of us already finding out the sex of our babies and others finding out in just a few weeks, I'm curious who all has their baby names picked out (or options) and who's waiting until their baby is born to name them? Feel free to post the names here if you're dying to share, and ask advice if you can't decide between some. **But please do not be upset if you ask for advice and you don't receive the answer that you want. Just because someone disagrees with you, does not mean they're being rude.** Also, be advised that there is a Baby Names board here on The Bump, if you'd like more opinions.

Happy naming!

Re: Tell us about your baby names!

  • Im not sure for a girl but if we have a boy his name will be Ludovic. I really like Eloise for a girl but my husband isnt set on it.. Neither am I really

  • We don't have names yet, but I am sure we will as soon as we know the sex (go for bloodwork this week!!); however we WILL have a name picked out this time. With DS we did not, we were literally reading the name book in the delivery room. Everyone said, "Oh, once you see him, you will know." BULLSHIT! Before we either liked a name or we didn't, but once he was here it was like, "No, he doesn't look like a..." Sooo hard! Every nurse who came in at the start of their shift would be like, "Oh, he is so cute, what is his name?" and I had to say time and time again, "He doesn't have one yet." I felt like bad mom of the year! Never again!!
  • Liliana for a girl and I'm not sure yet for boy but we're leaning towards Dorian. Both my husband and I and our DS have names that begin with D so if its a boy we would like to keep the tradition going. If anyone has any suggestions for boys names starting with D let me know! I also kind of like Dante but not really sure on that one...

Thanks! I saw that and even commented I think. But I wasn't thrilled by any of those suggestions. Including my own. Lol.
  • We have two boys, No.ah and O.wen. DH got to pick the first time bc we were Team Green and we decided that he'd name if it were a boy and vice versa. O was my favorite boy name and it would've been #1's name if I had chosen, so that was #2! However, I almost chose Eli, so I'm thinking that is our boy name. I think they all go, our last name is Hawaiian and a little out there, and we do hawaiian middle names, so I feel that short, simple, easy to pronounce names are our best bet!

My girl choices from pregnancy #1 when we were team green were Claire and Cora. Still like them. LOVED Halle but it does NOT work with our last name.
  • I am a fan of middle names having meaning. My son's middle name is David, which is my father's first name. We chose it because my oldest brother has 3 girls and my other brother doesn't even have a GF, so we figured it may be the closest he gets to carrying his name on. It meant a lot to him and I am so happy we chose it.
  • Oh and I could never wait until the baby was born! I'd put too much pressure on myself to "feel something" and then panic!
  • @Miz_Liz‌ My brother did that with our Dad's middle name. My dad and oldest brother both have the middle name Hillis. But my oldest brother didn't pass the name down. My little brother decided to use it as a middle name for his son. It's an old family name.

Well me and my husband allready decided on names long before I was pregnant. If its a girl her name will be Imri - pronounced the Afrikaans way an if a boy - Ruben Chris
  • We have it all picked out. My bf is very adiment on no middle names for either girl or boy. So Girl will be Sklyer and boy will be Xavier
  • We picked my daughter's name during the last couple of weeks of my first pregnancy. We both made lists of our top names and put them into A,B, and C groups with A being favorites. We had some similar names in both of our B groups but DH insisted one of us should get a pick from our A group, we shouldn't settle on a B name. So I warmed up to one of his favorite names and let him name her that while I picked the middle name.

So this time around, I get dibs on a name - I am supposed to list my favorites and let DH pick from my top choices. Only I have no names picked yet! I don't think I can come up with anything until we know the sex.
  • We arent finding out the sex. We have picked Hunter Ray for boy and Maddison Faith for girl :-)

Declan is a name that's starting to become pretty popular, according to some baby name web sites.

  • At first I thought I was set on my girl name..lol

For a Girl: J'Niya Nicole, but Ive changed it to Journey/Journee/Journei (not decided on how I want it spelled.

    For a Boy: Josiah

My name is Joneka and his name is Joseph, so the JO theme will be perfect to continue

  • I kinda bulldozed my husband on our second daughter's name, so he gets most of the naming rights this time. I get veto power, though. He's very slow with coming up with names, so it's been hard to wait for him to come up with them. I've given him till the anatomy scan for hard ideas. So far, he's thinking Ivan for a boy and for a girl - Penelope or Iris. So hard to let him name this one!! Especially since it might be our last baby :/.
  • I have had my girls name picked out for a very long time, long before I even had plans to have a baby....I knew I would name her Zoey Jane. We announced our pregnancy to my husband's family on Christmas and told them that we had that name picked out for if the baby is a girl. Last week, my husband's brother get a new dog.....and names her Zoey. I am absolutely furious. My husband asked him to change the dogs name and they are refusing. I think it's really disrespectful. Thoughts?

For a boy, the name that I absolutely adore is Jacoby Jude. My husband is not set on Jacoby, but I think it'll grow on him over time.

I'd be annoyed too! At least your family knows that you aren't naming it after the dog since you announced it before they did that...

We have told a few people that if ours is a boy, we will just name it after his father (DH is a II, so most people who know that assume ours will be a III). But I won't tell people our girl name. I'm afraid someone will name their child or a pet the name. I have a lot of friends/family that are pregnant and all are due before me so I'm not risking it!

  • We have our girl name picked, and have decided to keep the names a secret- but we can't decide on a boy.
He likes Brooks and well, I kind of hate it. :/

In DH family middle names are handed down so if if it's a boy his name will be Jacob Brett (no it's not after twilight, we actually asked DD what she would want to name her brother and she said Jake right away and we both liked it).
If it's a girl, I don't want to give her my middle name because DD already has that and I want them to have different middle names. So we decided to go with DH's grandmas middle name. He was really close with her and she passed away about a year and a half ago. So we decided if it's a girl her name is going to be Laney Jane. It's a little sing-songy but we liked the first name and it flows with the middle name.
  • For a girl, Madalynn Michele. And for a boy, Connor Grayson.

I would nominate that nurse for Twatwaffle Tiesday! That is horrible!
  • We're thinking Liam Tetsu if it's a boy, and Leilani Sora if it's a girl. Tetsu is my dad's Japanese name, we thought about Sae-il (his Korean name) but my dad said ew no don't do that to him haha. And for a girl we wanted to have a Korean name so Sora or Jae-hwa. (my mom said not to name my daughter after her Korean name because she hates it, very old fashioned).

I found Liam in a book, and absolutely loved it, then went online and found out it's among the top 5 most popular boy name for the past 3 years and I was like noooooooo oh well.

My brother and his girlfriend just had a little boy and they named him Liam. It is a VERY popular name.
  • @abbycjones UGHHHHHH. Half of my facebook friends are pregnant right now too but luckily no one I know is naming their kid that. Grrr. Oh well, this Liam (if it's a boy) will be the cutest one out of them all so HA. I may be a bit biased.

  • @Miz_Liz‌ I am a fan of the middle names having meaning also. My daughter and I share the same middle name. And both my boys have my husband's first name as their middle name. If we have another boy, I would like to incorporate my dad's middle name into the baby's name. My dad's middle name also happens to be my grandfather's first name. He passed away many years before I was even born. So it would be nice to use it for our boy's middle name.
  • If it is a girl I think we will name her Tessa. I have no clue about a boy though, we are really stumped on boy names right now. DS is named Garrett and it is so fitting and we love it so much I don't know how we will come up with another boy name we like that much!

  • My mom and I both have the same first and middle initials, so if it's a girl, I wanted to continue that. So Chelsea Laine for a girl.

My husband and I are HUGE SF Giants fans, and they had three Brandon's on the team this year. I guess we just heard the name so much last season that we kind of fell in love with it. So Brandon for a boy...still working on the middle name.
  • We are very undecided still.

Boy: Zachary, Ethan, Finn. I really like Finn, but I'm not sure I can get MH on board with that one. I don't feel very strongly about the other two names yet.

Girl: Lila, Ellie, Alice, Gwen, Noelle, Elise and Lilly.

So yeah, were going to wait until we find out the sex to narrow anything down.

  • For a girl, we're thinking of Grace or Olivia (really popular now but I've liked the name for a while). My husband is set on the name Tara for the middle name for a girl. I also really like Cora, Amelia and Mara but everyone (DH, mother, other family members) HATES those names except me. For boys, I like Jacob, Noah and Joshua.

  • The very night I found out I was pregnant my DH said if it's a boy he'll be named Raymond Douglas, the first name is my DH and FIL name and my DH has always wanted a son named after him and the middle name Douglas would be after my dad who passed in June from brain cancer. I'll be honest, I don't like the name Raymond only because I feel a child should have their own unique name without being under the family title as I call it, three males named Raymond too much.

If it's a girl DH wants to name her Skyler JoAnn (not going to happen, I just don't like the name Skyler) I'm leaning more towards either Everly or Charlotte for a first name, DH wants to use his late mothers name as her middle name, or part of it which is JoAnn. At first I really loved the name Ellie Jo but he told me it sounded too much like a country bumpkin lol , then with all these crazy hormones I came up with Everly Charotte Ann, but DH said two middle names is too much...*que eye roll and exasperated sigh*

  • I like the name Emmalin Parker for a girl and I like the names Sawyer, Liam, Jaxon, or Greyson for a boy..my husband doesn't like any of those lol
  • We are going with Owen Zane for a boy and Reagan Sue for a girl! We should find out within the next couple of weeks:)
