I fell in love with the name Caroline Oliva [Removed] and then I realized the initals. Do you think I should change the middle name I really love it...??
I work with a girl whose initials used to be SHT, prior to getting married. When I saw her initials at work I asked "what's your middle name?" Her instant reply was "yes I know!! My initials spell shit!!!" That tells me that her whole life she dealt with annoying comments about her awful initials. So I'm gonna give this one a definite NO.
When is the last time you put your initials anywhere? I initial things occasionally at work, but I do first last, no middle. Besides, "coc" doesn't actually spell anything. This is completely borrowing trouble IMO. Just go with your choice - you say you love it, and you might not find another you can say that about.
I like Olivia Caroline too. Although the first is pretty. I wouldn't use Caroline Olivia because, well at my elementary and middle school, we were suppose to initial all of our school supplies. And kids can be mean. With my daughter, I wanted to name her Anna Sue, but didn't incase she married and her new last name start with an S.
And how many kids are going to know what COC could mean? It's not until middle school and high school that you may see kids saying things... but it's a beautiful name.

I had to really think about why this would even be an issue. By the time kids are old enough to even see this, your daughter can always keep her middle name to herself if she's worried about it. Also monograms would look like CCO anyway.
Basically unless it spells KKK or ASS or SEX I wouldn't worry about it.

Um, no. I teach elementary and kids definitely know what cock is. OP, please remove your LN and don't give your kid the initials COC.
My sister had a friend with the initials A.S.S .... and that was the name she was picked on with in school. Started around 5th grade. Kids can be cruel.
How about a double middle name? Caroline Olivia _____ ? Anne? Faith? Rose?
Not going to lie, I giggled. But I also have a gutter brain. I think if you love it, go for it and honestly just don't use the initials like that. Like Caroline o. C.. Don't let it stop you!
It's funny because I was worried about E.W.Y. with my first and now I'm worried about I.C.K....not so much now. My mom loves my name and I hate it. I always have. So you may LOVE it but she may not appreciate the intials C.O.C. one day. Olivia is a beautiful name and O.C.C. is much better.
Guys, if other kids are going to make fun of your kid, they will find a reason . . . they will make up a reason! Say this woman decides to change her DD's name so the initials don't spell anything, maybe GHC. So kids call her Gross Hairy Cheese. Totally something that might happen. What are you going to do? Teach your kid how to deal with it. That's the only thing that makes any sense. Fatty, Slug, Chubs, Stinky - these nicknames have nothing to do with kids' real names. There is no way you can insulate your child from the horror that would be a crappy or terribly mean-spirited nickname.
Not sure why I care so much, but I feel pretty passionate about this today !
Bullying is a real thing, kids are killing themselves over this garbage. It is the job of you, as a parent, to try and eliminate such a target from their back not to add to it. Yes children are going to tease no matter what. Why give them ammo? You think that your daughter won't realize what her initials spell? Kids talk and ask questions and I think a fairly common one is "what's your middle name" the moment your daughter knows what her initials spell she will be embarrassed to tell friends her middle name. It's simple to me that the answer is to change up the name. What does your SO think? I can tell you with certainty my husband would not be ok with his little girl having COC as her initials.

Pretty sure no one ever killed themselves because their initials almost sort of spelled a dirty word. I find that really absurd and actually offensive for those who are affected by actual bullying that leads to suicide. That is no joke.

Not entirely sure what part of that you thought I was joking about?! I never said people kill themselves elves over initials genius. I said suicides happen from bullying. Kids are cruel and have no clue what's going on at a child's home and to add something like this to a child is dumb in my opinion. Kids will billy so why give them ammo I said!?! Not entirely sure what part you think was "offensive". I think it's naive to think that because this seems "small" to some that it will not absolutely effect this child in their future. I work wth a girl who's initla a are SHT. I noticed at work one day and asked what her middle name was and she wouldnt even tell me, her reply was "yes I know my initials spell shit!" So do tell me that the girl wasn't bullied or made fun of her whole life for those initials. You think kids won't bully a GIRL for having COC as her initials? Come on.

So you admit that no one would kill themselves over their initials, but you think kids might bully another kid BECAUSE of their initials to the point of suicide. I don't see the difference. And, I really don't see the point of arguing any further, we obviously fundamentally disagree about reality. You want to be the kind of parent that protects their little precious from everything that might ever hurt it's feelings, go ahead, I certainly can't stop you.
I am still having trouble seeing the issue.... No one spells it COC and who puts their full initials on things? .... If I searched my brain all I was able to come up with was "chamber of commerce"
To the people who are all "no one puts their full initials on things": have you not heard of monograms? Have you also not heard of labeling things in elementary school.
To the people who don't think kids will be bullied over initials: you're clearly out of touch with reality.

If you are someone who thinks monograms are important, I would think you would also know that her monogram would be CCO.
If you don't put your middle initial on your scissors, do you think the teacher is going to care at all? Like at ALL? This is not a real problem!!

I don't give a flying fuck about monograms but just an FYI, people do them either way (first, last, middle or first, middle, last).
Secondly, stop acting like kids don't get bullied over stupid shit. They get bullied for wearing the wrong brand of clothing. Of COURSE they will get bullied over having initials that spell out COC.
I think if her initials were going to actually be COCK you might want to think about changing her name. However, COC is not the same even though kids may twist it. I went through all of school with kids not knowing my initials. We never used middle names in school.
Second of all, there WILL be something in your child's life that some bully at some point will exploit. You don't need to twist yourself into knots trying to discern every little thing that "might" get them teased. I was teased incessantly for my wild bushy hair as a kid. My husband was teased for his name and called "Thor the Whore". No one knows what will be. You have to prepare your kids how to deal with nasty people and bullies because you can't predict the who/what/when/where/why. You prepare your kids for the road, you don't try to prepare the road for your kids.
TL;DR it's a beautiful name. Fuck the worry about initials.

I just spit decaf coffee out of my nose. Seriously?
This reminds me of one of my former students. His name was supposed to be Stephen Andrew S____, but his mom unfortunately died in childbirth. His dad liked the name Andrew better, so he switched the names and the kid became Andrew Stephen S____. The other students (8th graders) all knew what his initials spelled and teased him, but he luckily had a good sense of humor and laughed with them. I'd definitely try to avoid COC as initials, but it's not the worst combination in the world.

Lurking here from July, but not naming your daughter Anna Sue for that reason seems extreme. The chances your daughter would want to marry someone with a last name starting with S, AND choose to change her last name to her SO's last name, are pretty remote. As an adult, she would be able to see what her new initials would be in that case and devise a way around it (such as taking her maiden name as her new middle name, as many women do).

Oh please. I found a better middle name that was a family name so it has more meaning. I'm glad I didn't use Sue for so many reasons.
Re: Are the Initals C.O.C. Ok?
What if you did Olivia Caroline? I would not recommend the initials C.O.C. - kids can be very cruel.
