May 2015 Moms

Intro/What do you do for work?

After a few months of just reading posts and adding some comments, I thought I would introduce myself. I'm a newlywed that found out on my honeymoon that we're expecting our first child. I'm due May 20. I'm a Vermont beer snob that lives with my husband and my overly spoiled dog, Mclovin. I like to go to concerts, festivals, camping, and beerfests. I love me some fabulous food.

I tried searching and forgive me if this has been done, but what do you all do for work? I know some have made comments about your job in particular and after someone said "some of us work 5-7 days a week" it got me wondering. Maybe it's the total New Englander in me, but it's about the first question you ask someone when you meet them. I think you can learn a lot about a person with the profession they've chosen.

As for me, I work as a CSR at a hospital as I am getting my master's in education with a TESOL focus. Before going back to school, I was a Peace Corps volunteer for three years in Cambodia.

Nice to meet you all and I just want to say as a newbie, I never felt like regs were nasty...but perhaps a little too in love with the name Sabriel.

  • Welcome! I love beer and your doggie's name is cute, I think I've watched that movie a million times!

Oh and I was about to point you to the above thread that @radtechgirl just posted!

  • Welcome (officially)! I see @radtechgirl posted our job thread. Good luck finishing out your masters degree. I did that just before DD was born and I'm so glad to have gotten it out of the way!

My B. I searched "job" and "work." I find it funny that it was asked by a Bostonian. Gotta love New England.
  • Welcome, love the dog's name, lol! I see they have posted the thread but I don't think I commented on it. I am currently not working. I had a miscarriage in August on my third shift waitressing at a new job; when I found out I was pregnant with twins I decided to quit waitressing and have been unable to find anyone who will hire my big pregnant butt since then.

  • Welcome! I'm currently working as a substitute teacher at a daycare and am in school to become an occupational therapist.
  • Hey I'm a nurse
  • Welcome! As others mentioned there is a post about occupation - but I'm an executive assistant.

Ps- I'm from Asheville, NC current holder of the Beer City in the US title

  • Not sure if I should post here or on the original thread, which hasn't had an update since Oct. Since we're in a new year, and I'm a relative newb, I'll add it here. I work for a digital advertising agency within the production department, so I oversee processes and corp strategy. I love my job! Though I'm going to have to figure out how to balance those advertising hours against having a family.

On that note, I've been lurking on the Working Mothers board and have found it helpful.

Heya, I'm a nurse too! What's your field?

I work in Labour and Delivery (so yeah, relevant!).  I live in Canada, but I worked in Texas for a year and a half as well, so I get the system down there as well.

  • @texasmama15‌ yay beer lovers! My husband is brewing a beer next month that we're going to create a label that will announce our baby to give to our friends and family.

@SassyPants150‌ it's a little scary. I'm going to deliver in the middle of my last semester. Then I have to do a 15 week unpaid internship. There's nothing settling about both parents working full-time with an infant on one income.

@stratto814‌ -yay Vermont!! We're an odd breed up here.
  • Hi, I'm a nurse. Working in home health working 4 days a week plus one weekend a month :)

  • @JuliaRL‌ I am ED most likely going to cardiology. We had a little girl today who ate her moms suboxone for the second time by accident... It's just too much sometimes
  • Welcome! We just moved away from VT (and are still super sad about it) after 5 years. Still in New England, but it's not the same! I'm an outreach outpatient therapist working long hours and driving all over everywhere. I'll definitely need a different job when LO comes!
  • @ramy3‌
I read that you were a doula (Even if not currently practicing) in the old thread. How exciting. My DH and I are starting to discuss if we want a doula and looking into our local options.
  • Welcome!! I'm a branch manager-blah!!!
  • Hi! I'm a speech therapist
  • Welcome! Normally, I'm an accountant but since we just moved and found out we are expecting our first child, I am a SAHW and will be a SAHM once our son is born.
    Anniversary

  • Welcome to May15! We are due date twins  I'm a SAHM mom right now but also an RN. I worked in a NICU until I had DD
  • Welcome @kgnordman‌ :). I'm a Family Health Nurse. Good luck with your M.Ed.
  • Welcome and Congrats!
I was an Accountant/Financial Analyst, but now am thankful to have my dream job of SAHM
  • I am a fifth grade science teacher but will probably be a SAHM for at least a while when LO is born! I'm due May 6th.
  • Welcome! I left my job in September due to drama and found out I was pregnant after I put in my notice. I'm currently a SAHW and help my DH with things for his business and prepping for taxes. I'll be a SAHM hopefully until our kids reach school age.
  • Welcome! I am a SAHW soon to be SAHM. I have a degree in Psychology and worked full time in childcare until I found out I was expecting and some things happened in my work environment that made DH and I decide it would be best for our family for me to start my SAH gig!
  • Welcome! I'm a 27 year old Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician in North Carolina. My husband and I are having our first and likely last child, Kadence. (I love my son already, but one is plenty for us.)

Hi! Welcome! Congrats! We also live in a Beer City, Portland, OR.

I work at Apple, specifically in leadership at a retail store. It's very empowering and I learn so much every day. Never imagined I'd be here so long, but have no plans on leaving. Hubby used to work at Apple (6 years as a trainer), still works as a Mac tech/trainer for a small biz, and is excited to be a SAHD when LO arrives.

Anyone else's hubbies plan to stay home with baby?
  • O/ your dogs name is inspired! I'm a music teacher :)
  • I'm a NICU nurse turned sahm and when my current belly monster starts preschool (5yrs or so) I hope to go back to school and do midwifery. It'd be nice to see healthy fat babies every day, rather than poorly premmies and parents who can't hold their babies for weeks or months.
  • Welcome!! I love your dogs name! I work as a therapist at a detox/recovery center. I primarily work with clients whom are suicidal/ homicidal/ or require medical detox.
  • @kgnordman Welcome!

I am in Mass and love to travel to Vermont just for the beer.

I am currently a Program Manager Coordinator for a company that does contract work for the government.

  • Welcome! I am a newb too! I am a SAHM for the last 7yrs but have worked in the banking industry over the years. I have been going to school for teaching but also took some medical classes. My plan was to return to work this year as our youngest is going to kindergarten in the fall. Then we found out about our LO on the way so I will most likely stay home for awhile longer.

  • @christieb27‌ - yeah a lot of people from MA come up for beer. It's funny my sister lives in western MA and doesn't quite get "hey can you pick my up some heady's before you see me tomorrow" isn't easy.

@pinkbarebear‌ - that's funny. Craft beer/organic food places are our fave! As for beer, I love a double IPA. We actually had a heady topper wedding and toasted with beer instead of champagne. I also love pumpkin everything, so I love pumpkin beer.
  • Welcome! I like your personality, already. I think you will fit in well here. :)
  • Welcome! I'm a newly minted New Englander (CT) and love it so far. Absolutely love VT!
    My profession: Professor.
Baby girl born on May 15, 2015!  (DS born 2011)
  • I don't dig every wheat, but some are fabulous. Fruity wheats remind me of hot summer days. However, a porter I can really appreciate. I just can't sit down and drink a six pints. But if I go to a new brewery and I don't know any beer, I'll most likely choose an IPA first.

With that being said and if I was being honest, the beer my family drinks depends on how close it is to pay day. If it's pay day, we're drinking only craft beers and getting growlers. If it's a few days before pay day we're like "I love me some PBR!!"
