Alternatives for Emily and Camile

I'm considering options for a tribute name if our LO is a girl. My Grandma Emily and DH's Great Grandma Camile both passed away last year and meant a lot to us.

The challenge is, my Grandma always hated the name Emily, and with it being so popular I'm also hesitant to use it. I've been thinking about the name Amelie, as it is similar, but DH doesn't love it. And I'm not sure how I feel about the name Camile, but think it could be a good middle.

Any other names that I should play with?

Re: Alternatives for Emily and Camile

  • Mila or Mia would be nice variations for Camille.

I love Emily and I think it's just the right balance of well known/easy to spell but not every child is named that, but if you want variations, i think Amelie is cute, but very French.  Amelia is one of my favorites but it's a mouthful with my married name.

  • Amelia was the first that came to mind.  Or Emilia.

  • Emmeline/Emeline (em-me-leen) for Emily. It's a GP name for me because my SIL is named Emily. Emeline is #275 in France according to BTN and not in the US top 1000.
Mila works for Camile. I also think of Millicent, though it's NMS, I do love the nn Millie. Millicent is also outside the US top 1000.
  • Great recommendations, thank you! I particularly like Emmeline . . .
  • Emmeline. Emma. Ivy. Mia.
    Camila. Amelia.
