I am in the need for some happy, positive, maybe mushy romantic stories today so I am curious, how you and your SO met?

Did you know that they were special when you first met or did it take a while?

My SO and I are high school sweethearts and met through mutual friends. We started dating when we were 16. Honestly, if you would have told 16 year old me that I was going to marry him - I would have laughed in your face. At time we were young and just dating to date, I had no idea or any inkling that we would still be together 8 year later and married. It was pretty awesome though because all of our mutual friends stood up in our wedding and we had all known each other for such a long time.

AFM: I met my current husband on a car forum board. Yep, you saw it right! We are both very much into cars. I was on the board one day after finally getting a Myspace account (I think I was the last one to get one!) and I posted in the Myspace thread on the forum. I said that I now have Myspace but I have no friends

He said on the forum that he would be my Myspace stalker so he friend requested me. And because I was desperate to have more than zero friends, I accepted.

He started out by posting funny shit to my wall and it kinda turned into flirting a little bit. The issue was that (1) I wasn't looking for anyone at the time as I had just gotten out of a really bad relationship, (2) he was still married, though going through a divorce, and (3) He lived in northern VA while I am in Florida.

One day we were chatting on line and we were talking about tattoos. He said "give me your number, I have a pic on my phone I will send you". I didn't even THINK that he could have sent it to me online and lo and behold he told me later he was trying to be sneaky to get my number. #-o

So we started talking on the phone, some nights until 3 in the morning.

Since he knew all of my friends from the car club here in Florida from the forum I invited him to our annual new years eve party since he wasn't doing anything. When he came there was really no discussions on being more than friends so it was a bit awkward. Then we just hit it hit it off.

By the time he left we were talking about the next time we would see each other. I think we started to get serious his very first trip to see me. We then took turns flying to see each other once a month and after a year he finally moved down, and in with me.

We go married Jan 4th 2 years ago, the 4th anniversary of our first "date" on his first trip down.

Aweee, good memories! Sorry so long, I got lost in the moment and have all the feels

My DH and I met on an online dating website. We went to a bar/restaurant to meet for drinks and then we hit it off so well that we ended up going to dinner. I didn't know that he was "the one" until after a few dates. He was more in to me at first than I was him. Now I'm head over heels and wouldn't have it any other way. We also went back to the bar/restaurant we first met to get engaged which was a complete surprise to me.

I met my husband at a party. He was visiting a friend in the college town. They hosted a hip-hop themed party. My friends and I ended up at the party from hearing about it through friends of friends of friends kind of thing. We were all drinking cheap 40 oz. beers and wearing baggy pants, hair gel, etc.

I was not looking for someone that night, just fun with my friends. He started talking to me and we were like instant glue. We talked for probably 3 hours at the party, mostly about cars and music. I gave him my number and I was surprised but very happy when he called a few days later. I knew instantly that he was someone special, but I had no idea we would be married one day.

This is a sweet GTKY!

We met on Match.com... I winked at him! I had been on a bunch of crap first dates and when I finally met him as soon as I got in my cab to go home I texted my friend "now we're talking! This guy is a good one" We've been together for 7 years now

DH and I met while we were both studying abroad in Ireland. We were flirting on the first day of our trip (we'd never met because we both went to different schools) and I gave him my beer to finish which he was ecstatic about... and then I flirted enough to get him to kiss me and the rest is history. We managed to play around in Ireland for those 3 weeks and then we dated long distance for 2.5 years before getting married.

I had a friend in my college Spanish class whose boyfriend was from Mexico. I joked with her that she needed to introduce me to a nice Mexican guy that could help me with my advanced Spanish classes that summer. She invited me to a barbecue that weekend, where there were 3 girls and like 20 guys! MH was there, but he had a girlfriend at the time. I started hanging out with that group, and MH broke up with the girl he was dating. At the end of the summer he and I got together, and the rest is history

We're another online dating success story. He was way more into me than I was into him at first haha. We'll be together 8 years next week and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

On our second date, we both thought that we were stood up. He came to pick me up, I was getting ready and didn't hear the doorbell, and my phone was acting up. I've been stood up before so I was like is this really happening again?? Finally, we got in touch, he came to pick me back up, and we had our first kiss. To this day, he says something made him stick around and not head back home.

We've been together since I was 16 and he was 18. We met during Freshman orientation in college. I was still seeing my HS boyfriend at the time, but had a distinct "this is an important person in your life" feeling upon turning around and seeing him after he walked right up to me to introduce himself.
We remained good friends over the school year and started dating right before finals week in the spring.
We dated for 9 years before getting married, including being long distance various times, my moving out of our apartment to go to grad school out of state, etc. Sometimes it seems ridiculous how long we've been a part of each others lives... haha

A friend of mine was dating a friend of his. When we first met, we both had separately told our friends we thought the other was cute. But I had a boyfriend, and my friend told me DH was kind of weird so nothing further happened.

Cut to 6 months later, we met again at a party and I had a suspicion he was interested. I tested it by changing rooms a couple times, and sure enough, each time I would find him in the same room a few minutes later.

As we were leaving (literally in the car pulling out of the driveway), he came running out, stopped the car, and asked for my number. We've been together ever since our first date a couple weeks later.

He's "weird" only in the best, goofiest way possible :x

DH found me on MySpace (2007) and noticed we had a mutual friend. He asked that mutual friend about me and we met a few weeks later at that friends house. He was cute and funny but thought I was interested in someone else at the party. A few days later I messaged him asking if he would like to go have a beer at a local brewery. After that we were inseparable.

His best friend married my best friend. My best friend despised the boyfriend I had and was on a mission to find me a better one! She insisted I meet this guy that was just like me but I refused until I broke up with the boyfriend I had. She sneakily had us both happen to be at her house at the same time.

We did NOT get a long at first. My best friend would blatantly ask questions about "When you have a girlfriend...." And I hated every one of his answers but alas it was fate. We are just alike but I still hate his answers! Lots of compromises in my house!

DH and I met when I was 13 and he was 14. He was walking a friend from the neighborhood home and in passing he insisted that she introduce us. He swears up and down that he's loved me since the day we met.

My husband and I were "set up" by my uncle. I wasnt sure about the whole thing, but we talked via text for a whole day & became instant friends. I had never even seen him before, but I already knew I liked him. We only talked on the phone once, for about 2 minutes before our first date. I loved his voice!
Our first date was the first time we met. He took me to his favorite pizza joint. I was so nervous. He later told me that he was too bc he had a huge crush on me for years. (His sister and I went to school together, but he is 3 1/2 yrs younger, so I had no clue who he was! Lol) It was definitely love at first sight. We didn't kiss or even hold hands, but I knew by the end of the evening that I wanted to marry him. 1 movie date and 3 days later, he asked me to move in with him.
We talked about marriage and our future all the time, so it was no surprise when 6 months later, we were engaged. We got matching name tattoos to celebrate our engagement . (Yes, we're that couple). A year later, we bought our dream house.

About 18 months after our first date, we were married. He still thinks I'm perfect and I'm am head over heels for him. ♡

Middle school! We were 12 years old. And he was far too much of a goofy looking geek for me. But, time went on, we went to different high schools. I ran into him in our senior year at a play at a local college. I went backstage visiting someone, and there was my future husband! He had a role in the show. I didn't know who he was, but I got weak in the knees. And then I looked through the program to see who the mystery man was, and boy was I shocked.
We became friends after that and we both went to the same college. And then we were enemies while he dated someone that felt threatened by our friendship. Boy was she right!
And then we were friends again for years.
Every time we hung out we would end up falling asleep cuddling while watching a move on the couch.
And then I was about to move to Ohio, and asked him to hang out before I left. We did, and our usual habit of cuddling occurred, but it was different that time. It felt different. We didn't want to start anything though because of me moving. I came back from Ohio only 3 months later when I was laid off from my job, and we've been together ever since.

He sent me a friends request, and I accepted. I actually thought he looked really familiar, but to this day, I still can't figure out why. We messaged back and forth for a few weeks before he got up the nerve to ask me out. And the rest is history

We met on a virtual game, online. *hangs head in shame. Let me start by defending myself, im not an uber gamer nerd (ONLY A LITTLE). Anyway we met, played together, and hit it off. We realized we were only 12 hrs apart, yes ONLY... and talked non stop for 2 weeks before deciding he should just get in the car and come meet me. He did, and he never left. We were married 6 months later and now have been married for 5 years

MH and I met because I would take care of his parent's farm when the went out of town. One time his mom send him to pay me for spending time at the farm. He was cute and hardly said two words to me. Then the check he wrote me bounced... I FB messaged him and told him and we started chatting. He was dating someone, so we were friends for a while. After he broke up with her we started dating. I knew as soon as we became friends that we were perfect for each other. That feeling has never changed!!!

Short version: We met when DH crashed my roommate's and my girls' night in! (He actually was invited, but it's more fun to say it this way!)

Long version: My roommate of three weeks and I were hanging out in our pjs, eating junk, and watching movies when she got a phone call. She kept making excuses saying she was busy to whoever she was talking to, which I thought was rather strange. (Yeah, we were having a girls night but that didn't mean she had to exclude whoever it was that obviously wanted to do something. In my family it's always been the more the merrier, and we've often included friends in family holiday gatherings...) So after she got off the phone I asked her about it. She explained that it was a Navy guy friend of hers who had called to see if she wanted to hang out since all his roommates were going out drinking. (He was only 20.) I looked at her in utter disbelief and told her to call him back and invite him to come over, which he did. After the movies were over, my roommate went to bed, and he and I stayed up late talking. Over the next couple of weeks we got to know each other better, and about a month after we met, I was head over heels and knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. He loved me too but took longer to decide he couldn't live without me. In fact he waited until the night before he flew out to his new duty station in Guam to tell me that he was going to marry me. Two years after we met we got married by a justice of the peace in Hawaii, and six months later I was able to join him in Guam.

DH and I met as interns at Disney World. He put ice down my shirt the first time I met him and corrected me rather pointedly on his name (I read his name tag, but while it was his first name, he goes by his middle name - he was waiting on the "correct" name tag to come in).

I thought he was cute, but I didn't really fall for him until I saw him interacting with guests one day. There was a little girl dressed as Belle who was about 4 and he genuflected and pretended to kiss her hand. She was over the moon and so was I. The rest, as they say, is history. We've been together for 9 1/2 years - married for 4 1/2.

So...funny story....

We were both in acapella groups - he was in "A Completely Different Note" and I was in the "Chordials" (Get it..get it...???

) )

I dated some of his friends, he dated hooked up with most of my room mates. We started talking for some reason and everyone was totally weirded out by the thought of us dating. Anyways, I was student teaching in my Junior year and one day during choir practice he snuck up behind me and said "you look beautiful" and ran back to his seat. I'll never forget it. Ever. I turned bright red told all my gfs what he had said. I should mention he was a total stud (still is!) and every girl in my program wanted to date him.....so I was shocked that he showed an interest in me. Soon after we started talking and causally dating, he took me to NYC and spoiled me rotten. The rest is history.

DH and I met through Eharmony. We actually had our first date on Valentine's Day. Standard dinner and a movie. He actually got me the DVD of the movie we saw on our 1 year anniversary. He proposed the next month and we married that October. So together a total of 6 years Feb 14 and a 5 years of marriage this October. We met later, but it was worth it.

I thought I was the only successful story from Myspace! Everyone smirks when I tell them how we met. He messaged me and I thought he was cute so I messaged him back. We went back and forth for about a month then he gave me his number. I was too busy with finals so we didn't meet for about a month and a half. I realized that I have a pattern when I date guys. I pretty much hate all of them the first couple of dates. I need three dates to see if my mind changes. I literally have hated all my boyfriends after the first date except DH. So imagine my surprise when I thought DH was okay after the first date! I knew this time was different. That was 9 years ago!

DH and I have been together for almost 10 years (married for four). We're yet another online dating success story!

DH is two years older, but we met while I was finishing up my senior year of college out of state. A friend had recommended JDate (a site for Jewish singles) and after chatting via AIM (remember those days?) with a few guys (some of whom were nice, while others were creepy and wanted to know my bra size!), I happened across DH's profile. I thought he was cute and struck up a conversation first. I was still talking to some other guys, but we eventually progressed to talking on the phone.

After a few months of chatting online and on the phone, I graduated from college and moved back home. A week or two later, we had our first date at an italian restaurant. When I arrived at the restaurant, he was sitting on a bench outside and I thought he was so cute!

We officially became a couple a month after that first date and the rest is history, I guess. We survived a quasi long-distance relationship for four years or so (we lived about an hour apart, so we only saw each other on the weekends) before moving in together in 2009. It's funny to look back on those days now, but I'm glad I get to see him everyday now!

I love this thread!

My husband and I are another online dating success story. We met on Plenty of Fish (yes, one of those sketchy free sites, *gasp*!)

We emailed back and forth a few times, and then we had our first "real" conversation - via Instant Messenger. He "sang" me the song "Heaven on Their Minds" from Jesus Christ Superstar, to prove he was a fan of musicals (live theater is a major favorite past time of mine). I knew he was special then ;-) To this day I still never know what is going to come out of his mouth. Except when I do, which is even scarier. And I LOVE IT.

We dated for two years, then got engaged during a trivia game at a local pub. We got married two years after that, and have been married for two years come April. He is on a business trip right now and I miss him terribly. Truly my best friend in this world.
