September 2012 Moms

It's Monday--Where Is Everyone?

Happy Monday!

I fell down the stairs on Saturday at 4am because Cal was freaking out and my legs weren't working yet as I was dashing to go and get him.  Sigh.  I think I bruised my tailbone, at least according to Dr. Google & my nurse family members.  It totally blows.  Nothing like shoving an ice pack in the back of your underwear every time you have to get in the car because sitting in the car is the absolute worst.

Seriously.  This is more painful than the first few post delivery days, and breaking my elbow.  Womp Womp Womp.

Other than my wipeout, it was a delightful weekend. :-)

How's everyone today?

  • Ugh that sounds horrible @MarisaKathleen. Hope your ice pack days are few.

DD woke up yesterday morning with a rash that looked like hives on her legs, stomach and hips. Later in the day, a spot showed up on her cheek and another on her arm. This morning, it was gone in some spots, but had appeared in others, although it didn't appear to be bothering her. I put hydrocortisone cream on it and sent her to school, giving her teacher a heads up that she had it. Well the head teacher just called, asking if I could call the pedi and have them weigh in on what it might be or whether she should be getting Benadryl or something. So I'm waiting for a call back from the pedi, who I doubt will diagnose over the phone. I wish I had taken a picture of it, and I suspect we're going to find ourselves at the doc later today.

I have no idea why this gave me a quote bracket but it won't go away. @marisakathleen I saw that on FB. I hope it heals quickly. Such an awful spot.
We had a good weekend. Saturday was date night so B went over my parents about 2ish. We went grocery shopping, test drove that Acadia and finalized our sink for the kitchen remodel all before 5pm!
Unbroken was an unbelievable movie. I think it's a must see.
Sunday we went to breakfast before picking B up, then hung out at home. I got a few things ordered for his room redo and we watched the Packers win! :) Last night though I spent the majority of it in the bathroom. My stomach was not cooperating with me. I'm so scared to eat anything now.

L skipped her first nap yesterday. She has tried to skip before and ended up going to bed an hour early. Last night I almost forgot she skipped one. She was in a decent mood all day. Gobbled up her dinner and played happily in her bath. I told her she could watch a show after bath and DH had to remind me she skipped a nap so she needed to go down asap...

We paid for it this morning. We were 20 minutes late leaving the house. She rolled over in bed and yelled no when I told her she had to get up. She curled up into a ball on the changing table. She tried to lay down on the kitchen counter where I sat her while I was making my coffee cup to go. Got her to DC and she layed down on the stairs while I was trying to get her jacket off. Something tells me she will not skip a nap today.

ETA - not a 2 napper, just the first nap she has ever skipped!

Here is what I posted on the dup. monday thread, because it's very important.

ETSY COMPLAINT:  I hate when a seller prints a shipping label over a week before they actually drop it in the Fing mail.

PSA:  Don't sign up for USPS txt notifications unless you want a text at 3am every time someone at the post office farts.

    NEWS COMPLAINT:
I know local news stations like mine operate on a budget of like $1, but jeez o pete.  We watch just to laugh.  The head gal they've had for awhile talks like a 'reporter' robot.... like, how I would talk if I were mocking a reporter.

They just ran their commercial.  "Weather, from where you life.  News, from where you live. [something else], from where you live."  It's pretty much all they say.

  • After only half of the local schools calling a 2 hour delay last week when they really needed to call out (none of the roads were treated or plowed until after the mornning rush), they did 2 hour delays for the rest of the week. And this morning. This mornings weather event? Rain.

  • Our daycare is doing construction in Aedan's room, so they are temporarily relocated to another room (one they use when they play inside during the winter).  It's going to be a disaster of a week and I imagine Aedan won't nap well, but oh well.

Now, I just got a text that said the construction crew threw out his milk from the fridge (we bring in soy milk from home) and I'm irrationally annoyed.  It had just been opened.  They couldn't have just moved it to one of the other 20 some fridges in the center?  (And I'm not exaggerating, there are a ton!)

  • I have some DIY AWs

In order to avoid spending $110 on Etsy on a mobile and flower letter, I spent $150+ plus a gazillion hours to DIY it.  Yah.....

But I think I'm going to like them so much more.

These are the work in progress strands for my dream catcher or mobile.  Not sure which.  I have to do a bunch more of very simple feather strands, these are the fancy strands.  The ones I made with wire need to relax a bit more and lose the kink.  You can't really see it here, but there's a lot of shiny gold which I love.
    https://oi57.tinypic.com/2iuz04h.jpg

These will hang on the wall.  Bulbs go in the letters, the cord goes through the back, and it has a battery pack switch that will be mounted to the bottom (you can't see it because there is a lip on the box).  None of those flowers are glued down, and I need to do a final gloss white coat on the box paint.  So much work left, but I think they will be cute.  And DH will be stuck with one of my two favorite names, so there's that.

THT, those are AMAZING!! Love, love, love.

Cute @tinyhumantoe! And yeah, pretty much every time I take on a DIY project, I spend more than I would have if I had just bought the item. But it's more personal!

  • @kelbel527 they owe you for that, that is ridiculous.  I can see if they have you pick it up, but they should reimburse you.

I really overdid it yesterday.  DH worked all weekend.  I cleaned Saturday, and Sunday took W to IHOP, TJMaxx, Michaels, Taco Bell, home for a nap, then out to the grocery for a full cart.  We were literally home for her nap.  Every time I stand up, I have to gimp for awhile because my lower back pain.  Once I am up and moving, it starts to feel better.  I really tweaked something.

If it was more $, I'd probably make a bigger issue of it.  It's kind of a weird dynamic, since the  daycare is run by the company I work for and I know it wasn't the daycare's fault it was whatever construction company my company hired to do it.  It's not worth arguing with anyone about it.

I'm just more annoyed that I need to make sure I bring in more milk tomorrow.  Luckily they had some in the kitchen to get him through today and I didn't have to run out to get him some.  Also, we're lucky we picked an extra one up as back-up from the grocery store, so at least we don't have to run out tonight.

  • My question was already answered about the two naps. :)  It is crazy to me what other states consider bad weather, especially enough to delay school.

We had a pretty good weekend.  Friday night we just laid low at home.  Saturday I took Lily to an indoor playground.  I texted my friend that morning and she joined us.  Then we went to lunch.  The rest of the afternoon/evening we hung out at home.  Sunday was our usual family trip to Target and then over to my mom's for dinner.

My husband and I are not vibing the last few days.  Lots of petty arguments (that he is starting), I'm not sure what his issue is.

@pokedot You've mentioned having an upset stomach a few times the last couple weeks.  Do you think it's an intolerance or something?  Sorry if that's nosy.

My husband totally gets "man-PMS."  Not monthly, but every once and awhile.  He even admitted to it a few weeks ago.  He was just cranky about everything and I finally called him out on a it.  He was driving me crazy.

Maybe yours is stressed about something he's not talking about?  Or just going through a weird funk?

Not nosy :) I'm not sure. Last weekend I had a bug for sure because I had both ends (sorry for the TMI.) Yesterday I'm not really sure. I'm going to keep an eye on things and kind of do a cause/effect with the things I'm eating. I did have a diet coke yesterday and have been staying away from it so maybe that was it? I don't really know. Today it's strictly water.

  • I love your DIY stuff @tinyhumantoe!

The kids are sick/got sick this weekend.  DS has pink eye, DH is with him at the clinic right now.  I thought DD had Croup because she had the barking cough in the middle of the night Saturday night but then didn't have it Sunday...12 hour croup??  Or maybe she's to cats because we were having a Christmas exchange with some extended family on Saturday night and they have 2 cats and she's never been around cats and was playing with them.....?

Today I leave for a business trip at 11:15 and get home at 4:30 on Thursday (like walk through the door time, flight lands at 3:30).   I will have to do this every other week for about 4 months then go down to once a month and then hopefully complete drop off.  Hold me.  I'm trying to stay positive with:  I'll get me time, I can facetime on T/W, I'm only completely gone 2 days - I'll see the kids Mondays and Thursdays still, etc., etc.  But, hold me.  I'm feeling bad about this.

  • So, my brother and I got into an email fight this weekend because my mom wants a retirement party and he doesn't think we should be "saddled" with the responsibility.

I am pretty upset about it, because my mom was a single mom of three kids who worked a ton to make sure we had whatever we needed and pretty much anything we wanted.  She doesn't usually ask us for anything, so I think it is within reason to throw her a party.  The price tag is $400, but again, there are three of us.

He thinks that we should just all go to the party that the school district does, but I don't think it is intended for families of the retirees, just school district employees.  I don't really know what to do or where to go from here.

  • @beebopandbuddy reminded me. We went out on Friday night too! We got home late and my MIL walked in the door less than 2 minutes after us. So much for picking up!

We went on a double date with SIL and her newish boyfriend. I guess she is admitting that this is serious since she was introducing him to us. We went to dinner, had drinks, and went to the DC Improv. The main guy was Adam Ferrara. He was hysterical. I am so glad we got out.
