February 2015 Moms

How fast did you dilate?

im 35 weeks and 3 days with my first baby (girl) and dilated 0-1 cm. my doctor said she could stick the tip of her finger in my cervix. I have been having contractions sometimes regular but a warm bath usually help calm them down. I also have a lot of pressure in my lower abdomen area and back pain and my legs and feet are really swollen. So what I want to know is if this could mean a early delivery?? I'm due February 9th (PLEASE NO RUDE COMMENTS) also my baby moves like nonstop and I can feel her pushing on my cervix which feels like some one is pinching my cervix really hard and hurts very badly.

  • You can be dilated and effaced, for weeks.

  • Well last time I was in labor, I progressed from a 4 to a 9 in an hour. But I'm guessing that's not what you're asking.

You can be dilated weeks before you go into active labor. And it seems like this question has been asked 100 times this week.

In contrast, I stalled at 5 for 8 hours when I was in labor. Does this mean she might be just a fingertip FOREVER? ZOMG!

  • Are you kidding me??? The whole reason I post NO RUDE COMMENTS is because the last few times I've post on here I got a lot of negative and rude comments about the question I was asking. Clearly I put it up there for a reason! And I don't find the pictures making fun of my question at all funny. I asked it cuz I'm a first time mom and didn't know what to expect a
Because all the women I know or that have talked to me in my family had to all be induced in to labor and never dilated. And another thing I don't want my baby to be born yet I'd like her to stay in as long as possible!
  • Really? Google didn't really help trust me I always try google first. I just wanted some personal answers. But since all of you clearly just like to complain about the questions some of us ask on here I'll just stick with Google, screw this.. Rude people...can't read either....
  • How am I being ignorant?? All I wanted where nice simple comments yet all yall care about is how I asked yall to be nice like its to much to ask for. Almost all the comments on my question are about how yall don't want to be nice just cuz I asked and some of you are just plain out making fun of my serous question. And you say I'm being ignorant????
  • You don't make friends easily do you?
  • Fuck this and fuck yall I don't need this! Grow the hell up!

Wow- if a message board gets you THAT riled up, you're about to be in for a rude awakening.

Since my previous pg has absolutely NO relation nor impact on your current gestation: I was dilated at 2cm/70-90% effaced for 2 weeks.  I went 2-5cm in a few hours then 5-10 in 3 hrs.  As a FTM, when my doc said I was 2cm, I ASKED HIM for further info given my medical/pg history.  The guy was poking in my cervix so gonna make him earn that paycheck.

    Exactly ^^

Yeah I guess I'm wondering why all these ladies didn't just ask their dr about dilation/effacement/progression of labor if they had questions when they were informed by their medical professional that they were one or two cm ... My dr wasn't even going to mention to me that I was 1 cm a week ago. I asked when the cervical check was over just bc i was curious. I know it doesn't actually mean anything.
  • I'm just going to put in my 2c here, sometimes when people post a question that has already been asked, they aren't doing it to waste your time or annoy you. A lot of us using the forum have very hectic lives and aren't on this every day; so we miss posts. For example, I typically only read or post to pregnancy boards Saturday mornings.

If someone posts a repeat post all you have to say is "Here, this thread might help. Good luck!" And post the link.

Sometimes people in this group get very sensitive about reports. You can typically tell from the title if it's something you've read or not, if you've read it skip it...

Maybe you should learn how to call your doctor first..? Or ask questions at your appointment..? Talking to your doc didn't seem to be an issue when you thought your water had broken...

"Just to let everyone know I saw my doctor today for my regular appointment and she said I'm dilated half a centimeter like she could stick the top of her finger in but my water didn't break it was just clear discharge and that it was normal. What I find weird is that I wasn't dilated last night when they checked at L&D but I'm dilated half cm today? Has this happened to any one before between 35 and 36 week??"

You picked a very interesting hill to die on, WK.

I actually don't mind seeing occasionally repeated questions. And that isn't what the snark was about at all.

The snark came in when she suddenly shouted DON'T BE RUDE TO ME! In the middle of her post, before she received any responses.

If you need to demand that people not be rude, chances are you're asking a stupid question. In any case, this was a pretty tame post.
