Need rash help! If you guys think it's urgent I can call pedi today, if not will call tomorrow am for Sunday appointment.

DH says this rash wasn't there this morning, so it appeared sometime between noon and 3pm.

    Hx:
    1. Diarrhea for the last 9 or so days during 1 BM - no dehydration, still eating 28 - 32oz/day
    2. Switched from readytofeed to powdered similac sensitive 2 weeks ago
    3. Tried gentlease powder for 2 feedings yesterday, so he ate maybe 10oz of it at the absolute most yesterday during the day
    4. At 10pm last night put aveeno lotion on his tummy - something I have only done a handful of times
    5. No detergent changes - have only used babyganics on all his clothes.

And on top of that, my car is freaking 2 years old and the check engine light is on for the SECOND time in 6 months.  We can drop it off Wednesday and get a loaner, but with the car seat issue this is even more inconvenient.

  • @victoria+james‌ how are things with you DH & parents?
Tomorrow is 2nd Christmas with my parents since they were visiting my sister in December. They'll be coming over to our house and so far DH has agreed to be there. I'm both excited that this could be a step in the right direction and absolutely sick to my stomach because I have no control and I'm fairly certain tomorrow will be the ultimate shit show. My predictions include my dad saying DH is ridiculous, my mom demanding DH apologize (which he kinda sucks at), and DH bringing down the curtain with an epic show of yelling followed by slamming the door and squealing the tires as he takes off. I am terrified of 2nd Christmas.
    :(

(hugs) that does not sound fun at all.  Hope that it ends up exceeding your expectations, but in a good way.

@mrsbabe614 is it in the o14 group? I haven't seen the pic, but am happy to add my own pic in the comments.  and when I say my own I mean DS's poop, not mine.

@mrscjmb9410 eeekk!! FX your littles do not get the pox!

@mrscjmb9410‌ Hope you luck out. I'm terrified of the pox! I've never had it myself and hope it never comes my way.

  • I just got a response to my nanny ad that pissed me the fuck off. This 19-year-old college student said nothing about how qualified she is to be a nanny or even about my kid at all. Instead she responded only with information about compensation. She wants 25-27.50 an hour, sick time, and to be paid weekly regardless of whether or not she watches our child. She only wants to watch our child in the evenings after her school. Um, the fuck. I usually don't respond to people I am not interested in interviewing, but I decided to with her.

"I am responding to you because I am honestly shocked by your response to my ad. I am looking for someone to nurture my child and who is there for the sole purpose of caring for her, not so that they can have a "steady income" and "pay their bills". I would suggest a part-time job not in care-giving or possibly taking out student loans so that you can focus on school. This is an absolute no from me and I am betting many others."

She responded that it was not her intention to offend me and that sponsoring a student might not be for me. Ya think? She is so dumb.
Well then... that was ... interesting.....

Now I'm scared to post our ad!

After amputating three of my daughter's fingers, I decided to do my nails with Gelish. Haven't done it since being pregnant. Treat Yoself.

I am impressed if you manage to paint them the first try. It took me 3 times 2 weeks ago because A kept on needing something and then I nicked them.
That's what my husband is for.

Survival swim lessons! That description sounds mean!!! I was pushed in the pool when I didn't want to jump in at swim lessons. After, I dreaded going and to this day I can barely swim and I am afraid of water rides, the ocean and really deep pools.

    I was a sensitive child I think...

It looked mean. She screamed and screamed. Obviously the instructor made sure she took breaths between but, it was just so sad. Eventually, she got used to it and started holding her breath on her own for the dunking. They teach floating and to flip onto your back and float when you get tired of swimming. Jumping in, and swimming under water. The final test is jumping into the water fully clothed (jeans, sweatshirt, coat, shoes, the works) and swimming from one end of the pool to the other. In the end, she liked lessons/swimming/water.

Now that I've typed that, I've pretty much convinced myself that I wouldn't put my girl through it. There's gotta be other, gentler ways to teach the same thing.

Here's the thing: swimming lessons start at age 3. My DD and DS at ages 4&5 have had enough lessons now that IF they fell into a pool/lake whatever, they could float long enough for the nearest adult to pull them out, and by age 7, they'll both be able to swim proficiently, so survival swimming lessons seem a bit harsh IMO.
  • @SPurp13‌ you pay $30 a day for a full time one on one nanny? Wait is it your MIL?
@TheOtherJacobsons‌ I like that she said you must not be up for SPONSORING a college student. That sounds like she was expecting $$ for nothing.

  • Had to have a come to Jesus talk with my dad when he said he was planning on taking my baby on a snowmobile ride behind my back. He was joking but still!

When would this ever be a funny joke????
  • @golfingdarwinfish‌ I would probably just keep an eye on the rash to make sure it doesn't start getting worse. It doesn't look very severe, and my pedi has said that many times baby rashes are idiopathic. I would still call for an appt on Monday, but try not to panic, especially if LO doesn't seem to be acting any differently.

What would be a going rate for a baby sitter these days? I know it's dependent on area, but we have a gal who was a live in nanny for two kids as our top choice. She doesn't have an hourly rate because she was basically paid min. wage, plus living expenses. (Room and board.) So DH and I don't have any idea what to offer her for a few hours.
@starla487  Here it's around $15/hr; if the baby was a bit older and would be sleeping most of the night I would probably offer $10 or $12.

@cantisa  DH had him in a onesie that was a bit small for him, so maybe that was causing heat or irritation?

  • On swim lessons...I would consider the "survival" swim lessons once I had a kid walking and of we had a pool or lived very close to a body of water. Since we have neither, I feel like we can properly monitor DD around bodies of water.

Although i am looking into the infant "swim" lessons mostly because dd loves the bath and I think it would be something fun for us to do together.

I'm so tired. I could sleep for a week.

Also, the zipper on my favorite (and only) pair of boots broke today. :disappointed:

Bummer about the boots. That has happened to me twice. Same pair of boots but different boot each time. I've gotten them repaired. Is that an option?

  • So... decided to talk with DH about my hopes for tomorrow and see if I could prep him for the idea that my parents may *gasp* want to talk since they haven't in 3 months.

Did not go well. He says he has already compromised because he invited them (read: had me invite them) and is going to be there. Both things he doesn't want but is doing for me. Apparently talking about the elephant in the room even a little is just going too far (he will speak when spoken to but not about that).

I tried to explain he doesn't have to say much. Even something like "hey, I'm still angry and not ready to talk about that yet but I'll let you know when I am" would be acceptable for now. Nope. Not happening.

Also talked to my mom. She dropped the ultimatum that if DH doesn't say something about what's been going on the last 3 months they will just leave.

I'm dreading tomorrow so hard. :((

I charged $12 per hour for the first child plus $2 more per hour for each additional child.

ETA: This was for older children and didn't include compensation for any pick ups or drop offs.
  • I shit you not, I got another one.

"I am requesting benefits that include paid holidays, sick days, and 2 weeks paid vacation, yearly bonuses & perks (ex. key to clubhouse or gym access)".

I am not opposed to these things and I guess I might not be considering this from their perspective so much, but you can't get $30 an hour PLUS these other things. I mean shit, I saw one person ask for $50 an hour. For that price, the toys better put away themselves and my kids better go on a magical journey through a fucking chalk painting and your name better be Mary Poppins, bitch.
One of my degrees was Child Development, with an emphasis on early childhood education, so I looked at being a Nanny after graduation... and this was a somewhat normal request for affluent families who wanted a full time nanny with a degree in caring for your child, and CPR certification, etc. etc. But it basically meant they owned you completely.

BEFORE we graduated most of the girls got $15-$20 an hour and no perks. I would never pay a college student that much, regardless of the degree.

  • @victoria+james‌ Chances you can give them some wine/beer/something to chill them out a bit??? Or drug them???
Just kidding... Kind of... Seriously I am so sorry that you have to dread this and deal with all of them together tomorrow.

Did you ever tell us the backstory? I think I missed it if you did. Either way. Sucks - sorry! :(

Jeez, I'm sorry. You don't have to put me on blast like that. I thought my cover letter was excellent.. :-<

I'm encouraging DH to have a drink or 2 before they come over. I also plan on providing mimosas under the guise that we always have them on Christmas... I'm just hoping they'll all liquor up a bit and chill.

Backstory... Not sure if anyone remembers way back when I mentioned that my dad didn't get his flu shot in time for my delivery despite DH and I asking him to on numerous occasions. Well that was when things blew up. My dad didn't come to the hospital to meet M and tried to start shit with DH via text while we were still there. My mom got in a fight with DH about similar issues. My dad told us that our view on parenting was ridiculous and shit just spiraled from there.

When M was 2 weeks old my first real outing with him was to family counseling because my parents didn't bother to think that maybe at 2 weeks old I had other shit to deal with. DH refused to attend but had to drop me off since I couldn't drive.

I've slowly started repairing things with my parents but DH has not and both parties are putting me in the middle and complaining about each other. Since DH is out of work I have to leave the house every time I want to see my parents house since my mom has zero skill at compartmentalizing we spend all our time together with her telling me how depressed She is. Every time I get a text from my family even saying "I love you guys" DH rolls his eyes and it makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong.

A lot is hanging on the outcome of tomorrow and they're all too busy thinking of themselves to see how hurt I am.
  • Victoria do you think DH will say hi and then just hide out in another room while your family is over? Would that help or cause more issues?

That's what he's done in the past. At this point its been long enough and he needs to be a part of the family again.
  • @victoria+james‌ That's tough. I am glad you were able to start to move forward. I hope DH clues into your needs regarding repairing things with your parents.
    Good luck!

    Oh and mmmmm mimosas!!

Fx for a successful day tomorrow. Family events with my mom and DH are tough too and it usually ends with DH in the basement.
