Day drinking

Because I just found out I don't have a job to go back to at the end of my mat leave.

Fuck.

Re: Day drinking

  • You're in Canada, @JNerd‌? I keep wanting to put you there.

  • Yup in canada.
My mat leave is up in June.
So I've got a bit of time, but now a huge load of stress. And will also likely end mat leave early for a job.

  • Once I found out, I went straight to the liquor store.

You guys don't have a protected leave? That sucks ass.

  • I'm really sorry to hear that. Did they give you a reason why? Thank goodness you have a few months to sort it all out.
  • We do.
My boss thought I had just left thoigh and was shocked to find out I had mat leave on my record of employment. So now they have to pay me out.
The company isn't doing very well financially, so it likely won't be very much at all.

I was going to job hunt anyway, but hate the fact I have to instead of want to.
  • That sucks @JNerd! Blah.

  • I'm sorry :(  I hope something comes out even better for you when it's all said and done!

  • Wow, that's awful. I hope you find something worth the stress of job hunting!
  • I'm so sorry! How on earth did those wires get crossed? There is a huge difference between saying "hey, I'm leaving" and "hey, I'll be back when my kid turns 1".

I would drink but my stomach is uuuunnnn happy with me and I don't know why. Actually, I think I do know why. My baby's cereal is not gluten free and I keep testing the temp with my lips, the same way I test it for his purees. Stupid. Should probably stop that or get him some gf cereal.

  • I'm on my second double.
  • I'm so sorry @jnerd. Somehow I think this is kinda illegal. Don't know canadian laws tho. I am glad you have time but still that's so wrong. I wonder if their financial situation has something to do with it. I hope the best comes out of all this and enjoy your booze.

  • I'm having really bad flashbacks.
When I was on leave with DS (working for a non profit) they didn't raise enough money while I was gone to bring me back.
2 months after we found that out, hubby lost his job.
It was one of the hardest times we have ever been through.

This time I was working for an internet startup and the finding is quite tight. They can't afford to bring me back.
They've lost 7 people recently and aren't filling any of those positions.

I'm so glad we are done having kids so I never get put in this position again.
  • My anxiety about Reese is starting to set in. I am trying to not stress though. Her next appointment for chemo and bloodwork is on Wednesday. But yesterday afternoon and today she has been "off"--not sure if she is coming down with something, or low red blood cells, or just exhausted in general. I picked her up from MIL yesterday, who said she seemed tired. She fell asleep on the car ride home at 4:30 and slept straight through the night until 5:30 this morning! (which has happened before). But this morning, she was incredibly grumpy and crabby (which isn't like her at ALL) She didn't want to go to the babysitters (which is one of her favorite places). We suspect it was low blood sugar and going that long without eating, because once she had breakfast she was fine. The babysitter said she was HUNGRY all day; she had waffles, grilled cheese, 3 apples, and other things as well. And was running around like crazy and in a good mood. On the way home again fell asleep in the car and didn't wake up, so she is in her bed now.

I think tomorrow will be a watch and see day, we may be making a phone call to CHOP about it.  No fever though.

  • I could not live in a neighborhood with no street parking overnight. What if you have guests? Is there guest parking? I could see if a master planned community with narrow streets that wouldn't have room for a fire truck with parked cars but a normal neighborhood with normal width streets just doesn't make sense. DH and I avoided HOA's b/c we didn't want to live with those rules. But I can see enforcing them b/c people bought in knowing full well and if someone is ok with it then that's the way it is. But weird laws suck.

  • That makes sense @chickie03. That is good that they allow permits tho. Some places are just nope never.

Btw, congrats. I think I forgot to say so in the thread u mentioned. I was so stressed too in the beginning with DD. I didn't even think about what it would be like to bring her home for a long time b/c I was so scared. Hang in there and I send copious amounts of sticky baby dust.

  • Tlex, DD didn't have a pillow till her toddler bed. Most of the time she's not even on it lol and she's almost 4. I was so worried so I had her crib bare for a long time. By your daughters age I allowed a few toys and had mesh bumpers. Hopefully someone else that knows the recommendations will chime in. I am a worry wart especially w DD.

  • I'm sorry @jnerd. I hope you find something quickly so you don't have that stress on you.

  • I need one of those grabber things that they make for the elderly. I'm at the point that bending down makes it hard to breath. I also need a life alert button. I squatted down at the grocery store the other day and almost couldn't get back up. I'm sure all the strangers loved watching me struggle to get up out of that position. I almost had to sit on the floor and get up that way.

  • My local PD wants to use my dining room to stakeout sketchy neighbors...thoughts? I'm at war between let's get sketchy out of my neighborhood and what is slethy finds out we are helping and try to retaliate? I have yet to talk with the detective in question, they just wanted to know if we'd be willing. I also don't know why they are being watched.

Emily Blunt better play me in the movie.

  • @klondikebar I don't know if it would be worth it with only three weeks until my due date haha. Right now I'm content to just leave things where they are until they have to be picked up.

  • DH has been with LO since about noon today and is doing bedtime. I'm camped out in our spare room drinking a captain (actually captains cheap brother, admiral) and diet listening to the madness. I had such a shitty day so I deserve this. Some 56 year old man who I've never met called to tell at me today for a problem my brother started and threatened to file a lawsuit against us, told me to fuck off, blah blah. I left work, grabbed my booze, walked in the door and poured a drink. It's the first time I've drank immediately after work since before I was pregnant. That's how I know it was a bad day.

  • @littlestjerry‌ there is an upstairs window that is never closed (no glass) but has a dark black curtain preventing anyone from seeing inside. There are constantly random cars idling outside. And, to be judgy, I don't like the look of the people who live there. At all. I can't put my finger on it, I just don't. There used to he a little girl who lived there, I haven't seen her or the man I assume is dad in ages. Mom and dad used to Gabe screaming matches during her drop offs and pick ups. The house is also unkempt.

I guess piddly drug dealers aren't really that scary as far as threatening to you personally if they find out, but it would still make me a little nervous.
