Can I say I'm pretty pissed off? That'll be an extra unpaid day for me at the end of the school year. Damn the f'ing cold! We better be back in school tomorrow. So...what should I do today? Shop? Sleep? Eat? Watch TV? Anyone else have a snow day/cold day today? What are your plans? Same here. As soon as CPS called off, I knew that we were off too. Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying watching Orange is the New Black (started today!) and cuddling my husband and dogs, but I will have an extra unpaid day also.

I'm in Atlanta and it's cold for Atlanta! We're no where near any of the temperatures you guys are experiencing. It's 34 degrees and people are complaining. We were allowed to wear jeans today and tomorrow to prepare for the cold.

I'm not too far from you @wolowizard‌. I'm in Augusta and it's barely 30 degrees at the moment. High winds is making it feel a lot colder.
Columbus here, and weather is about the same! They are opening schools earlier so kids aren't left out in the cold. We are expecting 19 degrees and less tomorrow. Bundle up!
  • 2 hour delay! It's my experience that usually leads to a full day, but I'm mostly just excited about the extra time to wash my hair.
  • Freezing here in New England!! They are canceling schools due to the temp. You know it's bad when they cancel school way up here, for weather temps!!

Cancelled again. I'm not CPS but one of the burbs. We were cancelled by 2:00. I'm thinking Friday too. This SUCKS!

  • Op I feel your pain! We're on a cold day for the second day in a row too near the quad cities. Everyday we have a snow day is another dock day for me as well and I agree it aggravates me too!

I just wish they said it was up to parent discretion. Any sane parent would NOT put their child on a bus like this.

  • @rnmama2b I'm in centeral Illinois too! It's 1 here, but feels like -17. DH has his 2nd day off in a row due to cold. We're thinking of taking DD to monkey joes today.

I'm a little worried about our heater. It's a dinosaur and it's been running pretty much constantly. Hope it makes it through the winter!
  • @Swanigam‌ small world! Stay warm and bundle up today (: we have our 24 week appointment this morning and I am absolutely DREADING walking outside! I feel you on the heat situation-we use a heat pump to try to save on propane and it's having a really hard time keeping up!

4 degrees with a negative wind chill in Alabama. High is above freezing today though. So nothing like you northern living ladies. Finally pulled out the thicker coat I bought, only to realize it doesn't button in the middle now.

    Brrr...I dislike cold weather.

Ok. Maybe it is really cold. My poor dogs had to go outside. I was of course watching them very closely. I hate sending them out in this weather. Poor Zoey (only 12 lbs) fell over in the snow. I had to toss on my boots and run out to get her. Cooper (30 lbs) came in very quickly and immediately vomited. I wrapped Zoey up in a blanket for a bit to warm up. I feel bad if they have to go out again. Any ideas? We shoveled the deck so that there isn't snow but they keep wandering to the yard. I think I'll have to put them on leashes to keep them on the deck.

  • I'm in the Chicago area too. Our house is terribly insulated so it is really cold in here. We have had 2 space heaters going constantly for the past couple of days and even with that it is only 60 inside. If I have to I can take DD and go to the in law's house, but I really don't want to leave the house.

Of course DD wants to go play outside. I probably will let her for a few minutes after bundling her all up. I let her shovel the driveway for 10 minutes the other day. That was enough for her and then she didn't complain about going outside for the rest of the day.

My little 12 pound Zoe hates going out in this weather, but my other Cavalier Ruby is missing the black pads on some of her feet and literally walks on 2 or 3 legs in the bitter cold and then falls over. It is so sad. I just read about a company called Salt Sox in Chicago that are supposed to have really great dog boots. I just carry my girls to a patch of snow (city condo= no backyard) put them down until they go, wrap them in a towel, and carry them in. I look like a crazy dog lady, but it's worth it.

Also wondering if we're going to have school tomorrow, as the weather looks worse...
  • It's freezing here in Philly at 16 degrees and so many people do not shovel their stupid sidewalks, which means ice everywhere. I work in a tall building next to what has been deemed the "strongest wind tunnel in the city" and also take public transport to get to work, with no shelter on the platforms. Tomorrow, I have an early AM meeting at the hospital, which is a 20 min walk across campus from my office. Yippee!

I thought the air temp was warming up tomorrow and the winds are dying down this afternoon--making room for snow. A few inches I heard. But a few inches is no big deal--and if it isn't as cold...? I think we will be back to work.

Yep- we are in attendance tomorrow... sigh. I will be glad when the day is over that it is one less to make up, but I am not looking forward to the drive.
  • It snowed earlier today. IN FLORIDA. okay, not what most of you consider snow, but there was white stuff falling out of the sky!!

Omaha area schools/churches/community centers are closed today also. Windchills here are -30. Not fun.  Not fun at all.

I'm in Nebraska too, where are you at?
  • Im back to work tomorrow. Although going in on a Friday whomps--I'm glad that's one less day we need to make up in June--and therefore is an unpaid day for me.

  • Why don't you get paid? Are you a para?
  • My maternity leave runs out 5/27. Every day after that (scheduled or makeup) is FMLA and therefore unpaid. We were supposed to be done on 6/2 so only 4 unpaid. Now I've got 6 unpaid. Ugh!

  • So it was so cold here, we burst two pipes on the second floor, ruined the room upstairs, the front hallway, my daughters room and our furnace crapped the bed. Yup. Today and this weather can take a hike. :(
